  1. If 0 is a few hundred pieces connected together with small tiles, just hanging, and 10 is a modern, near indestructible Lego set like the U-wing, I would say about a 6 or 7. There are some fragile exterior parts but overall it's really sturdy (you can pinch the tip of the tail and nothing will break or droop really badly) if you know where to grab it. Compared to other things I've built its much stronger, but I guess the source material lends itself to that. It's got a very small footprint for the number of pieces/weight/volume compared to other ships.
  2. I think I managed to fix the picture problem, they should pop out of the spoiler all out once now. I have spent so much time with this build that I could probably assemble it off the top of my head. How each little section goes together has basically been burned into my brain forever. So making an LDD file should be no problem if that's what the people want. Of course it would have floaty bits inside the file, because there are a few non-ldd friendly connections in it. Most of it is pretty straight forward though :)
  3. Thanks very much! I was very hesitant about it as well, but i'm pleased with the end result and there was no other way to do what I wanted to achieve unfortunately. Thank you. That is great to hear. For the paints, I used Tamiya enamel paint from my modelling shop in my city. "X-2 White" and "X-3 Royal Blue" to be specific. Although as I put somewhere in the post, it wasn't until about halfway through the painting process that I replaced my acrylic waterbased white paint with the enamel, which is a problem I highly suggest you skip over if considering doing this. At least in my experience, the enamel paint was easier to work with when applied and looked better in general. I'm really sorry to hear about the spoiler tag problem, I'll try and get rid of them and maybe that will make the pictures easier to access? wow, thanks. I enjoy giving as much detail about the whole thing as possible, because for me personally when I see a model I really love there's nothing more disappointing than only being able to see a little bit of it. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed that! I have been asked a few times about instructions and breakdown images for some things and I feel bad because I keep putting it off. I think maybe it would be easier to just make an LDD file with everything in there and if some folks are interested they can poke around in there. Funnily enough that is how all of this started, i built a copy of khatmorg's one from the ldd file they made. So i guess i should do that if it would make it easier to organise parts etc? thank you very much :)
  4. I did that one too! It's a shame that there isn't a bigger variety of non-white faces at the moment, or even female ones.
  5. Hello ! Here is the second iteration of (kind of) my delta-7 model. You ought to see where this all started on khatmorg's page here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/95628537@N02/8735306298/in/dateposted/ And the eurobricks thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/82931-moc-obi-wans-delta-7-aethersprite-class-light-interceptor/ The previous eurobricks thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/132852-moc-delta-7-aethersprite-class-light-interceptor/ plo's delta-7 album on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/48109771@N05/sets/72157675717316394 obi-wan's delta-7 and the rest: https://www.flickr.com/photos/48109771@N05/sets/72157675717304614 This time I photographed it mainly because last month I finally finished painting the livery onto the necessary pieces for plo-koon's whip from the order 66 montage in episode III. That was a protracted process because I was working off only 1 piece of reference material (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/9/94/Plo_Koon's_Jedi_Starfighter.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20061207163510), and it took a long time to begin placing important marks on the model so that the rest of the design would follow the source material as closely as possible. I haven't done much painting at all, so doing this was a learning experience. Some of the edges are cleaner than others, due to some amateur masking, but I'm pleased enough with the final result. I have a series of progress photos documenting the project basically from start to finish. (warning: ~30 images will pop up) Not much has changed from the original version, but most of what has concerns the rear section. I also managed to include retracting landing gear inside the bulbs of the engines, which in hindsight was a no-brainer for how simple it was to incorporate. I was forced to paint some parts dark red, dark blue, and white simply because they aren't currently available, but I tried to restrain doing that too much to keep myself in Lego territory and away from modelmaking. The build itself is pretty solid and "swooshable" I guess. My main issue with the build, which I gave up on correcting when completing the revised versions, is that the cockpit section rises up higher than it should (ie, it's too fat). Using the 12x3 wedge plate made that impossible to fix (for me), but I think it's not too bad. The other thing I'm not sure about is the angle of the wedge from the tip of the nose backward - to my eye, it seems like the ship itself is a little bit too narrow. I haven't been able to find much blueprint or schematic-style reference to look at this so it will have to do for now. A word about scale: the real thing is listed as 8 meters long so I used that as a starting point (well, retroactively). Using a scale of 4 studs = 1 meter, it should be 32 studs long. The build is 36 long. I'm going to pin that down to the angle of the wedge - if the tip of the nose was warped back 3 studs, that might fix the angle. But i have to call it a day on this one I think so I finish other things. I have left notes on some of the photos on my flickr profile, please do take a look. Feedback, criticism, and comments are much appreciated!
  6. Thank you both. Hopefully Ill be finished soon.
  7. from flickr: Almost done here. Main obstacle is getting the two sides of the hexagon (top and bottom of each side) to match up together whilst staying inside the profile of the rest of the build and not being too gappy. I'm pleased with the plating of the hull you can see creeping its way forward along the bottom half of the fuselage. That's the coverage and tolerance of the angles that I'm going for. I resolved some major strength problems in the middle of the fuselage, so now it's moderately swooshable. All going well next post will be of the completed model.
  8. It's already come up from when this was first spotted in Romania. I can't remember may 4 figures getting leaked in shops 16 weeks beforehand. Most likely a promo series.
  9. These are great. The SSD and falcon are my favourites, really elegant overall and obviously economical use of parts to get a good result. Well done
  10. I know I'm boasting but I just finished my second version of the delta-7 and I put a lot of effort into the underside. Here's some photos: heres the full album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/48109771@N05/albums/72157675717326394
  11. It's not really a big issue for me. "Real problem", you're right, probably not. I don't see what's wrong with critique, and I don't think about it every day. I'm well aware of the situation and the reason why it's like that.
  12. It's a real problem because the uniform is that of a grand admiral, but the insignia is just an admiral. If he really was "admiral thrawn", he would presumably use the same or slightly updated to current style Piett torso.
  13. Yeah, they actually made her helmet as you pointed out but it's on a blue squadron pilot for some reason. barion raners helmet is also in the y wing microfighter and it's really well detailed, but like you said they just used the generic white guy cartoony style face which is annoying. The u-wing pilot is not identified in the visual dictionary, but you can see a photo of him in the book, here's a picture : you can see that the helmet is the same because of the yellow starbird on the black edge.
  14. I did. Mine too. It's a real shame that we have to do all of this ourselves though. Imagine if the star wars theme got the special treatment that tlbm is getting
  15. Nice work, I have been thinking of doing the same thing once I sit down and figure out all the costumes for each member of the whole R1 squad and seeing the lego translations. Pretty accurate work I would say, obviously some of the heads could be replaced but that's lego's fault for always reusing the same small group of generic looking minifig heads for so many minor characters.
  16. I doubt the astromech is for may4, do those normally leak out into shops 4-5 months early? The stand build thingy is puzzling though. Maybe it's not supposed to be a promo thing but a normal product, only with an extra build other than the figure so they avoid the has bro legal problem thing with figures
  17. It's been spotted in Romania, very limited supply at the moment so it's really expensive online right now. Because of the modular stand and plaque piece I expect it will be announced in some way (maybe not) and then it'll be more available elsewhere, maybe similar to what happened with the a wing pilot or first order general
  18. I think the gray/white puzzle is good to talk about. Many SW ships and vehicles are slightly different shades of a light gray. For example a slightly more bluish tint to the LBG colour would be perfect for a TIE fighter, but sand blue is too strong. X-wings are somewhere between white and LBG, but the worn finish makes it difficult to approximate it with lego colours. With the Falcon I think it's a similar problem: White is probably closer to the light gray that a model kit should be finished in, but making these dirty, aged and scrapped together looking ships in the clean white lego colour kind of betrays the intended aesthetic for me. I think it would be extremely useful for Lego to expand the library of available pieces of the "very light bluish gray" colour, which I only have two 1x1 plates of (I got them to sample the colour - it would be absolutely perfect for an x-wing or falcon) and is pretty limited. LBG and DBG is a super common colour now with black, white, blue etc. now and considering the variety of colours that exist like all of the shades of blue, purple, pink etc it would be really worthwhile in my opinion. Sadly I think Lego has no intention of expanding the colour palette or producing the essential pieces that don't exist in colours which aren't common like the "very light bluish gray" .
  19. That's exactly it, I'm addicted really. There is no reason for there not to just be final and best quality versions of every figure, but then there wouldn't be enough cash for TLG executives to swim around in. There has to be a new hat with each new version of a figure
  20. My sabines, using the girl's head from the free maker set. (And different colour arms on the season 1 version)
  21. It's just a marketing gimmick, it's not really important and doesn't (well, shouldn't ) make the actual content of the product more or less valuable.
  22. Not at all? Is there a reason for this? That's really annoying. I don't mind waiting at all but it is not good if they don't even get released
  23. Sorry I'm not sure what you're asking, can you rephrase?
  24. Another interesting fact: the most recent Vader (in 75055, 75093, 75159) actually features a torso that best matches the details on the episode 3 costume. So there still isn't a proper Vader minifigure for episodes 5-6.
  25. I think an issue with this which you can easily resolve is the size of the inverted canard part of the wedge (just imagine the venator is an ISD with part of the hull cut out, I'm referring to the rearmost section of the ship which is separated from the front by the cutout shape of the venator). At the moment it looks out of proportion to the rest, if you made it a bit bigger the whole thing would look much better
