[SoNE] - Ensuring the station - Freebuild10
Kodan Black replied to markus1984's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I feel a little bad for you because your part of the story was stuck in corridors instead of getting to play around with some of the space and suits of Disco's build. The feel of the station is what we've come to expect out of scifi stations. You kept the aesthetics of Disco's build with the similar doors and general vibe. I like the greebling and the splashes of color to break up the monotonous white. I'm very curious to see where the story leads. Did you guys stockpile these builds or are you two seriously building them this quickly? Because if it is the latter my hat is off to you, I find just a simple 16x16 build can take me a couple weeks to get how I want it! -
Saw this last night, but had to wait until today to post so I could fully digest it. The story is really captivating. Ok, first I'm so jealous of how many bricks you have! Wow, the size of your builds is just staggering. The mini-station in the first picture is great. The second picture with the suits floating up is cool, really gives you a sense of being in space. The third image has such a wonderful sense of movement from the jetpacks, while also having a sense of tension and reveal with the inclusion of the platform about 1/2 way through the image. The airlock door is very well done, some great greebling inside and also the piping is well done and seems logical. The way you two collab on these builds is perfectly done and at such a high quality level. The story enhances the images and the images enhance the story.

Great build, I like the outdoor scene and all the indoor parts. Good story and lots of pictures. The one critique I have is the show-thru in the prison cell. Because of the hinge parts there is a gap there, ideally you cover that in some way so it isn't leaking through. I tend to build a wall behind the wall, though you could use SNoT plates too.

2 factors to consider: 1) The toys build momentum for the movie both via purchases but also by having commercials for the toys in addition to the ones for the movie 2) They want this stuff to be bought for Xmas and if you drop it mid-December you can't easily do that. Parents don't want to be mobbing stores at the last minute and retailers don't want to deal with the logistical nightmare of having to try to keep up with stock as the tidal wave hits.

Those suits are AMAZING! They are just so perfect. I'm struggling to take the whole thing in... the whole hangar is impeccable. The scale, the details, the doors, the lighting, the figure posing! Fantastic build. The transporter looks like an up-armored version of the RTT. The floor pattern and overall scale of the build is just spot on. Really a great MOC and a compelling story too. Can't wait to see the next part, you've got me hooked!

Very nice. I like the chairs with the viewscreens, those are very cool. Great little briefing computer at the front of the build -- the whole room has a good size to it. I'm not sure I have enough bricks of any 1 color to even build something that large! I like the inclusion of the ceiling in the build, it gives the room heft and overall there is enough architectural detailing to keep even such a large space from seeming overwhelming. The one part that has me a bit baffled is the big opening above the door. Is that a ventilation element or something else? I think it stands out too much personally. The figure posing is good, but is it a trick of the angles in the pictures or are the chairs between the two speakers closer in the 2nd picture than in the 1st? The first photo could have a bit more light towards the front as some of the detailing is a bit hard to see, but overall this is a fantastic build and a great cliffhanger for the next build.

MOC: Star Wars Rebels Imperial Troop Transporter
Kodan Black replied to Delta62's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks good from what I remember from the show. Only thing I can see that is a bit off is it looks like the minifigs can't stand straight, they have to angle slightly. But going 4 studs wide would be too much, alas some times things can't be perfect within the bounds of Lego and the dimensions of minifigs. -
They really can't change the date. There is a logistics pipeline involved when you begin to work with major retailers, plus you are talking every company that actually produces this stuff (Hasbro, etc). I'm not saying it can't possibly happen, but it would be quite surprising. Just like the release of the movie could change, but 99.99% chance it doesn't.

I'm going to say it is very likely that nothing in any of the sets will be a revelation, almost certainly the sets will coincide with things seen in the trailers. At best, you'll be given some clues based on set names.

Previous Episode: The Flying Rays Lately we are lucky when we do get some down time, but the 4 of us are actually more fortunate than most. Dez made friends with a supply officer who has an affection for pilots. We let the supply officer play in our sabacc games and make sure he never leaves with empty pockets. Really we hold special games just for him and we play our own little game of seeing who can lose most convincingly. The poor guy will be really sad some day when he plays against someone else and finds out he isn't nearly as expert as he believes. In return he keeps us fed with a steady supply of alcohol and allows us to have a little "clubhouse" in one of his smaller supply rooms onboard the ship. We always have lots of notice before anyone will be going in there so we are left alone and can just relax. If we got caught we'd probably be reassigned to survey the surface of Hoth or Mustafar. Typically Tom and Arseneau just chill and talk while Dez and I do various tasks to prove which one of us is better. Better at what? Whatever our slightly moist brains can think of. We have to make due with what we have available which tends to lead to challenges like who can hang from overhead supports the longest or balance on one foot on some machinery in the room longest. Tonight we made some makeshift weights and were proving our manliness. Arseneau is always quiet anyway; but when he drinks he becomes, somehow, quieter. He looks very unassuming with his mustache and jet black hair as though he is someone's dad here to visit, but that belies a part of him that is almost always hidden. One night though we were doing some arm wrestling and we convinced him to join and we saw the other side of him as he beat all of us and then proceeded to taunt us the rest of the night. Now we just let him be quiet. Tom is lighthearted in and out of the cockpit. He doesn't need booze to bring out his jovial nature and typically he'll either goad Dez and I on or do mock play-by-play. His mock play-by-play in the cockpit can break up boring patrols as he calls out: "The squadron of the Empire's finest TIE Interceptor pilots flies in perfect formation, hurtling through the vast emptiness ready for Rebel attack, pirates, or EVEN ... another flyby visual inspection of a freighter full of spare parts." Dez and I are both extremely competitive, but also get along very well. If there is anyone I'd want as my wingman it is Dez, though I'd never admit it to the others. He is a bit more of a braggart than I am. I trend towards quietly demonstrating my skill while he will happily announce it to anyone that will listen. I have to admit to being an enabler of his behavior though as anytime his mouth is wandering at a bar and some local takes offense I'm right there by his side. And he knows this. Sometimes I think he abuses this just to see me have to step in and handle things. Though ever since that one time with the 5 Duros I think he has reeled himself in a little. When you spend your day locked alone in a metal ball zooming through the vacuum of space, you appreciate the moments of social interaction that much more. Especially since you never know what the day will bring. Some guys from 2nd Squadron lost a couple mates when two TIE fighters accidentally collided during a visual inspection flyby. You can't dwell on it though, you have to move on and go about business. We keep hearing more rumors about Rebel activity and hidden bases and the like, but you never know if that is real. I've got a good squadron, a steady supply of alcohol to blow off steam, and I'm a pilot. For right now, in this moment, I'm happy. Overall build image: Please judge as part of SoNE.

That protocopter is amazing. I love the colors and presentation in the images. Fantastic!

Did Lego ever fix the "tracor" beam sticker or even comment on it?

CCCXII Large Misc.: Dwynnburg Castle
Kodan Black replied to Kumpelkante's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Huge with a lot of nice details. I see the point that the white building stands out, but I think that is a good thing. It really contrasts with the rest of the build and I'm guessing it is something special like a chapel maybe? A grand scaled castle and powerful MOC. -
Really cool build! I like the moss covered rocks and the dragon. The dragon is very imposing and dominates well as dragons should!

Shadows of Nar Eurbrikka — Introduction and Discussion
Kodan Black replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Are freebuilds counted against the beginning or end of an episode? I guess what I'm asking is if I post a freebuild this week is it a 7.x freebuild or an 8.x freebuild? -
Great to see the surge at the end! All strong entries, best of luck to all.

[SoNE Freebuild] Rescue Mission
Kodan Black replied to Commander Beltar's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
I like it, the cold probably saved him by lowering his blood loss and keeping him cold! Fortunate. Good walker build and the snow works well too. I like the humor of seeing his hand and the use of the hammer too. Good work! -
I was wondering if you would post a build since I'm an admirer of yours! The office scene is good, but oh my is the past scene great. Has the perfect SW vibe, looks just like how a scrapyard should. Just fantastic, really glad to see a build from you. Nice minifig usage too.

[SoNE Ep. VII] "Before we leave this planet..."
Kodan Black replied to WickNole's topic in Nar Eurbrikka Archive
Really dig the present scene! The part of the ship is a good idea, love the vault and the foliage is well done also. Good story too. Though it was heavily biased against the peaceful and benevolent Empire. ;) Good work Rebel! -
I feel bad posting in your thread because your responses are always so well thought out and thorough, but I wanted to express my praise. It is a captivating story without any images. The build is good in both instances. Good part usage and I commend you for using reasonable parts (not going overboard with exotic parts), which must be sorely tempting when being removed from the limits of physical pieces. The sparing use of color just makes the impact more powerful. I mean this in a good way, the story for the past scene was so good I don't know what image you could have made to keep up with it. Great builds, love the combined story you 3 presented, and most of all a story that pulls you in harder than the sarlacc.
