  1. Victor Servadac, on behalf of the White Glove Order, will be buying at least 6 shares in the Royal Factory. More if we get the tool to double check our accounts this month.
  2. Greetings. Welcome to the Brick Seas. Nice intro. How is that saying again: All saints are sinners, and sinners have a past? I just recently got into pirates. I started with modulars, and bulk buys to make city MOCs. So all my pirate builds will have a lot of random stuff, and the same reoccurring pieces from a lot with 90ies pirate sets. Other pirate stuff is all bricklink. MOCing is great fun, and the learning curve is steep, in a good way. *cries from the crowd* -"Yeah! Show us your so called King!?!" -"We have no royalty? Who is in charge?!" -"We are all DOOMED!!" -"Zeus have mercy upon us!" -"Please save us, King Fernando!" The crowd is working their way into a full fledged panic, or so it seems.
  3. Thank you for all the praise. Bardo have been around for over 50 years, but word about it's exotic beauty have reached the mainland just recently. so the time is ripe for it to grow ;) Thank you, and it is nice that the amount of work that goes into planning, building and revising a detailed facade gets recognition. In my city layout this will be one of the buildings furthest to the back wall, so it is cut short at 5-6 studs depth. After dismantling some other builds, however, I think I may have enough to add a bit more depth and remove some improvised solutions. I want this to be a part of my permanent setup, with pizza parlor style open back. So I will finish the interior, Hopefully this month. To Mr John Hawksbrugh, Port Raleigh Nothing pleases me more than when young, promising architects such as yourself, gets inspiration from my work. You have a keen eye for building styles, I can tell. I personally like variety in building styles in a city, so one may walk through different eras and places on a single afternoon stroll. A well planned city, especially one of a particular style, does have a tendency to be remembered more distinctly by vacationers. Then each build works as a part of a whole, but fewer builds stand out. There are many good ways to build a city, it all depends on your desires. I guess the most important aspect is to look at what materials are available in the vicinity, and base most of your build on those. Fine details, such as Salleek marble, may be ordered to accentuate your build without costing a fortune in shipping. In my past I traveled the world, and to me it is those lasting impressions that I now want to recreate, while making the expression my own. A word of advice, don't think to much about the end result. Have fun and play around with different techniques, and each build will be better than the last one. Looking at other builders work, will from time to time set a mark on your own flair. I wish you luck in your chosen career path. I insist you send me some engravings of some of your buildings. It will be a delight to see your work. If you want to have a look at some of the architects of old, that have inspired me, and keep inspiring me to this very day, I suggest you visit the Museum of Architecture in Terreli. (My Flickr Favorites) with the utmost gratitude, Victor Servadac
  4. I hold the Sea Rats in higher moral standing than pirates. Although Sea Rats are independent, they are a faction working towards a common goal. Whilst the pirates such as Bloody Bill are bloodthirsty, egoistic scavengers only out to make trouble for the established empires. I've met many a Sea Rat that only want to make a living, but through misfortune have had to flee their native country. It may be bold of me to presume that they could have a pleasant life in another country. But I do understand the fear of being used as paws and extradited in the game of global politics. Many Sea Rats are just outcasts that have nowhere else to go. All saints have a past and all most sinners have a future. Those that are not destined for the gallows, that is. In my power as major of Bardo, I will make sure your properties are safeguarded while you are away, should you choose to build there. I am not at power to give full amnesty, but I can do this: The licence you would have to pay will go towards building roads and ports in several strategic locations, and hideouts throughout the island, that may or may not be used to flee or lay low for a while, if and whenever any foreign power come looking. And you would have to follow the laws on An Toli while you are there, which are fairly loose: Don't kill, don't steal, don't do harm against your fellow men (women included). We currently (April) have a lot of unused plots in the city and its hinterland. So, to extend a hand to those unfortunate souls that have fallen out with society, and to help fill our city with amenities, we offer a 5 DB for rebate on buildings per level for Sea Rats. This applies to any licenced building except residence (5DB/small, 10DB/medium, 15DB/large). Residences will have a rebate of 2 DBs if licenced. The amount will be refunded next month. Thit means Sea Rats will get residences for the same amount that they do in their own settlements, but now is a chance to get a hangout close to trade connections, which makes getting rid of your "collections" easier. Disclosure: If you have broken Eslandolan laws, I am obliged to bring you to justice and follow through on your sentence. However, plans are laid out for a luxury prison in Bardo, where most cells will have a sea view. There you may serve your sentence in a pleasant atmosphere with catering, delivered each day by our many different providers of Bardo cuisine.
  5. I need some clarification on the rules. 1) If someone builds in another factions territory, who gets the licence money and the tax for that property? The builders faction or the territorys faction? 2) If that someone is a Sea Rat, do they have to pay full price on the licence, and to whom does the tax go to, if they build in established empires?
  6. Don't just be cool. Be old school!
  7. The HoE is not a class 1 or 2 ship. Also, MCTC, or any other co-owned constellation is not entitled to a free licence.
  8. The Bright Owl signing up for Dragon's Teeth.
  9. I don't mind watching whale hunting and whales cut into pieces, in an historical perspective. Whaling was an important source for food, whale oil and more in old times. As with all hunting/fishing/farming, animal wellfare was not an issue. Survival first. Although it may be debated whether a lot of modern varieties is more or less humane, and if the respect and gratitude for using those resources have increased or declined... I'll leave it at that. Very nice MOC, clean build, with lots of detail that shows the early whaling industry well. Providing a bit of historical background is very interesting, which helps bring the images to life.
  10. I have submitted a bid for the HoE.
  11. Since my own and I think most people are stuck with a lot of basic colored bricks I always love to see basic color builds. This makes it work. The amount of details is perfect, while still retaining a classic, albeit refined look. It is bold and colorful, like all Eslandolans, and I like it. Great chouce with the light blue window-thingies.
  12. I love it. You captured the cramped feeling and atmosphere perfectly. The triple gun cart is very cool. I love those early overpowered solutions that not always work out well. Also, the whole build is very classic piratey And now my suggestions for improving photo and build : The wall on the sea side could maybe benefit of using some plates to make a smoother, but still keeping the jarred transition from white to yellow. On the photo taken outside, from the land side, I found I got feedback on one of my builds to hold up a piece of paper (or a reflector of some sort). In this picture you would hold it to the right side of the picture. This greatly improves light and reduces sharp shadows.
  13. Okay, maybe not a bigger chance to sink, but at least a lower chance of capture. Maybe more fights ending with repair cost. The occasional capture should still happen, but not so much that it in general is more profitable than trading. Ships that go on raid missions are equipped for taking ships, so they should retain a chance of capture if they manage to bypass the defence of convoys (not to forget support fire from forts). The challenge is that it quickly gets out of hand with the complexity, but it may be manageable as long as these proposals gives different adjustments based on which of the MRCA options you choose (Raid, trade (single/convoy) , bounty, blockade, etc...).
  14. One way to make it attractive to sail solo missions, is to adjust the chance of detection, with less chance of being caught for single ships/small convoy (depending on ship size and numbers). Less chance of being seen, but also less firepower and chance of escape/defend. I agree that it is too many NPC ships. The most profitable at the moment is capturing ships, so the trade missions are bait where the actual trade is a bonus. So I agree with a bigger chance of sinking vs capture.
  15. Not just the last month, although that would be nice. I would like to have the possibillity to check all builds. Brickseas is good, but it needs all entries to be correct. What about freebuilds that you licence later, and upgrades?
  16. I don't know. I can't seem to find it. Only seen the february scorecard, as far as I remember. There were some errors, and it is so unspesific, so it is hard to see if everything is correct. I am also unsure about which builds I licenced. And there is always the posssibility to fill out a form wrong or forget to post in thread and such. And I can't see transfers done. Sometimes I forget, so I need to know, basically everything and start to keep an account. The accounting got more complicated than anticipated
  17. Yes, please. I would very much like this. I would pay real in game dbs to have an accountant...
  18. One way it is possible to build big ships with few bricks is to build on a lesser scale. That's a decent building challenge, not a short cut, as I see it.
  19. I agree that there should not be a minimum quality. Quality should be rewarded, but not more than more builds would earn more money. I am lucky to have bought a few lots with Lego, so I have a good amount of bricks to chose from. Still, there is always more bricks that could improve a build, and money should not be the issue. We have to remember the fun and story telling qualities of BoBs. The proposal of having a best of BoBs monthly post could work, with both quality builds and humor/mood builds, both good techniques and good presentations, as well as good stories. Maybe have all fb's have a lower base reward but all fb's earn approvals, or something? So you could earn big on one elaborate fb, or build a few more not so advanced builds and earn the same. I see how that would be more counting of approvals. Is there a way to automate the approval count mechanism? I like to find some aspect that I like that grants the approval, and sometimes I give suggestion for things to improve. Sometimes I just don't see anything that could be better because I am not at that level yet. Other times I am unsure if they want feedback. Without making things to bureaucratic each builder could just add if constructive critique is welcome, and bear in mind the positive and helpful spirit of the community. So I say yay! to more exposed studs. Look at it like different style tattoos, a la dotwork. And yay! to any kind of style as long as everyone is having a good time. Asketh for constructive critique, and thou shall recieve. The tons burthen idea is great. A minifig foot is one stud, it is perfect. A guideline for how many square studs a ship class has in cargo, and how much broadside power a ship has. That would make it easier to MOC something that will fit into a class. As long as you hit those, it should not matter to much if you have built the wrong type of ship. Although some feedback from the ship experts is good in order to learn more, ship building is not necessarily the main drive for everyone in the brick seas. That's why I am looking forward to the skill tree, having more choices in what you want to pursue, is more inviting to get a large, inclusive. and thriving community building site. (This is an example I found to see if inclusive was the right translation "They need an inclusive process where the real fabric of this very complicated society can deal with their issues.". and "Include: make (someone or something) a part of something.")That is also a reason to partake in the Brethren of The Brick Seas. To take part in a world where only your imagination set the limits (as long as you follow a few loose guidelines. Like for instance no steam power, and such)." I personally like complexity, but to keep it accessible and inviting for new people, complexity has to be weighed against ease of understanding, also including those that build for casual participation and entertainment. Everyone should have an easy way to join in and get a basic understanding of the the EGS. The new rules are much easier to understand, but must say although there are lots more that could be made even more complex, I vote for holding the reins with adding more. ...That being said I feel the seaworthiness should reflect how many zones you can sail between ports. Sailing from Bardo to New Oleon should be hard for small ships. Although possible, the crew should get sick from getting to little fresh water and eating to much fish, as well as more prone to sink in storms. But I'll let other take most of those discussions, since I don't know what I am talking about when it comes to ships. I like the pictures and colors
  20. I added some builds. I think it was al if them, but I forgot to add small size to the surgeons office
  21. Mine was in the hinterland of Bardo, on the Island An Toli.
