LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion
Sven F replied to 8BrickMario's topic in Special LEGO Themes
All i see are babies and guitars. But i think it's too early for these leaks, September is a long way from now. -
Ghostbusters (Reboot) 2016 sets rumors and discussion
Sven F replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Is this a May release or later in the summer? for some reason I thought i could buy it in March, It's hard to follow what comes out when. I don't care about the movie, i don't even have to see it, I just want the hairpieces and all the other interesting parts. -
VIDEO: Interview with the LEGO City Design Team

Thanks for that. The other day I watched your interview with the CEO. I am not happy with the baseplate answer, still think there is another reason for that, but I wouldn't expect them to disclose it. -
What's your budget for lego and how do you keep them?
Sven F replied to wgemini's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Budget? Well about 50% of my income which i often find ways for blowing over, because "this month is an exception" the hobby almost stops entirely as soon as spring time rolls over. I only follow lego passively durring the summer and money goes into other things. Around October when my depression kicks in, lego keeps me distracted and the budget for even some essential things gets compromised. I will cycle to save petrol and parking, i won't eat out anymore, switch to buying cheaper clothes and start comparing the value of everything in bricks. Like "going to that concert costs one pab cup and three cmf's" -
It's much less of a problem that the hobby might be viewed as juvenile since that's a very positive trait in my view. The judging part comes from spending money. Where i live, money is always short, the middle class is small compared to those apparently struggling day to day (not really, but that's how they see it). So when someone sees how much you spend on what's in their view useless plastic, you are stupid, because to them there are far more important things to spend on, like cigarettes, coffee and whatever other activity my fellow citizens are up to. I don't hesitate to let anyone know about lego though, or that i am a feminist or that i speak a made up language with my plush teddy bear or whatever other detail might spark a moment of controversy in anyone's closed and cobwebbed mind.

Does anyone own the original Green Grocer to confirm weather the dark red used for floor tiles and curtains is the old, slightly translucent dark red or the more opaque new dark red? Bricklink doesn't differentiate this color from its older variant, but the difference is very noticeable. If you shine a light through the brick, the older one will pass light through the plastic, new dark red won't. Thanks.

AFOLS tend to find it very hard to view popularity of a line outside the perspective of an adult collector/aficionado viewpoint. Communities like this warp your view of how the lego market works.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
Sven F replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My skark has a pretty loose headpiece, but nothing i haven't experienced before with cmf's don't think that would call for a recall -
Why does it say "minifigures" and you are all talking about a set? i am confused.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
Sven F replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Whatever the hell is left and right shark, I had to google it and it must be the dumbest thing ever, exceeding my worst expectations in the history of human trivia. I really hope this has nothing to do with LEGO Edit: although: http://www.cinemable...hark-69901.html -
Nothing too interesting @ the Pasing, Germany store. They have a large wall but most of it seems permanently filled with 2x4 bricks. There's a mixed bin, but I didn't have time to go through that. Filled a single small cup with this.

TLG isn't Luis Vuiton or Swarowski, they don't sell luxury status items for a premium, so it really isn't their business to worry about upsetting the aftermarket value of something that cost $3 TLG never sold the chicken for $30 nor was it ever their intention for anyone to buy it for that price. So how is it in their interest to protect the value of something they never profited on in the first place? I never bought the Chicken for $30 why did you?

I've seen a dark green version but i don't think it looks very good and that color isn't cheap either. Dark tan might be ok, not sure about dark red, probably not.

Need some advice on how to collect/invest in LEGO
Sven F replied to gundamz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am not an investor but find this aspect fascinating, and like most afols, i like to believe that i can some day get all my money back if needed, so i follow a lot of information on value. I think you can answer most of your questions yourself, but pure facts without some psychology and lucky guessing at future trends hold little value in the long run, in my opinion. Currently anything with a cult following licence will do much better than most unlicensed, an exeption to this are sets which are part of a larger collection like modulars or cmf. What nobody talks about is LEGO interest inflation. Things like SW is risky because updated sets are released eventually and only a very small niche will care about the old. Another thing nobody mentions is LEGO popularity will eventually reach critical mass and it's anyone's guess if we are currently near the top, all we know is its never had a larger following which means there have never been more sets in circulation and demand has to follow supply for a long time which is getting increasingly harder with LEGO distracting your secondary market with more, better and bigger sets every year. There is also a hugely increasing number of people trying to turn around sets for profit thinking this will be the new green grocer. As a last resort, as consolation to thinking your collection will maintain its value, there is bricklink part-out which is always a secure way out as parts will always be parts, but it involves more time and work and relies on demand for elements keepin steady as well as the assumption that TLG won't ever try to claim that market themselves. (b&p?) I think large scale investment is getting watered down and risky. If i was to do this, i'd focus on quick turnover of certain polybags, cmf's, seasonals and select ideas sets, and that is purely due to supply time and location inconsistency by TLG and very impatient and/or uninformed and panicky customers. As for personal collections, i would just keep buying whatever i like and not worry about value, if it ever comes down to selling, you are bound to have hits and misses anyway you plan it. -
Mine isn't built yet, but it's been done before. A quick search gives this picture whose owner hopefully won't mind me sharing it http://cdn.vanillaforums.com/brickset.vanillaforums.com/editor/op/493lc0i8wcxr.jpg You can also check on page 37 of this topic.

Same boat here, either they are rereleased or i am not having it, the price is too high. I can use the masonry profile while i wait though.

Rarest is probably the wrong definition. Pet shop has been out the longest so it's safe to assume it's least rare, which doesn't necessarily mean least desirable or expensive in the long run.
-
Ok, well i don't necessarily have to see it, but someone could possibly describe if it has any cool pieces and colors.

Only if you are completionist. As great as they are, I haven't yet seen a series where I like all the characters.- 4,155 replies

Hydrogen Peroxide works, but i'd rather they don't yellow in the first place, if you can't avoid the sun, you should invest in UV-light protecting foil for your windows.

TLG canceled my P&B order and future orders placed through S@H
Sven F replied to Dosenbrot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It might not be a matter of not being able to produce enough bricks as much as it's uneconomical to do so. Lego elements are produced in batches, after a batch quota is done, the molds are switched to make another element, this takes up time in which that machine is idle. Also when colors are switched, the first few injections are discarded untill the pipes clear. Planning ahead to produce 1000's of a piece and then having to do another batch that isn't needed for supplying a set anymore doesn't make much sense.- 71 replies

TLG canceled my P&B order and future orders placed through S@H
Sven F replied to Dosenbrot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Exactly. Even though I don't blame resellers to the extent some people do, They only tend to see the numbers and simple logic. TLG involves a bit more than figures into the equation of business. For example like one of your Targets decided to limit CMF purchases because for such small items it works better if they can create as many happy customers instead of only 1 or a few that buy everything at once and leave everyone else dry. How would a reseller explain the replacement parts service? It's perfectly legal for a company to put a disclaimer on the box and just ignore if anything breaks or is missing. It makes no money for TLG, so why do it by that logic? Unhappy customers cost money too, all that customer service has to be paid and you risk loosing loyalty. I still think B&P works as more of a convenience service than anything that aims to turn a profit.- 71 replies

I don't see how it's any concern of TLG how high the prices on bricklink are. The lego store online or in-store only wants to sell to end consumers. I seriously doubt the logistics of running b&p is a very profitable segment, if at all. TLG is protecting their loyal fans and customers, why would they wish to jeopardise that by allowing people to make quick profit on their backs.- 71 replies
