Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Humdrum replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Oh great, we're getting an old sock under a mattress? About the flying thing, I immediately had to think about the floating pool on top of that giant hotel in Singapore for some reason. -
Now that you mention it, I am experimenting a little with stop motion. That's probably why I recommended tethered shooting
-
It's not a necessary feature, but a nice one to have for Lego/product photography is the so called live view/tethered shooting option. This allows the camera to export what it sees to your computer screen, so you won't need to look through the lens the whole time. I'm not certain about the latest Nikon model in the 3000 series, but the older ones (3100/3200) didn't offer this feature. The 5 and 7000 series have this option on all the models if I'm not mistaken. But again, this feature is not necessary at all to learn about photography. Only very convenient to have I think I'm learning about (Lego) photography myself with an old Nikon D80 and a 18-55mm kit lens, it doesn't have live view but it does the job just fine regardless.

It's quite the trip for me as well, I only visit it if I want to buy sets/exclusives I can't find in local shops. Wijnegem is an odd choice for a Lego store location, but then again there really is no 'sweet spot' in Belgium (despite it's small size).
-
The Lego store in Antwerp (Wijnegem) actually had the exo suit on sale about a month ago. Together with a range of Lego Movie and Chima sets. All the sets on clearance (including exo suit) were stacked on wooden pallets.Because of the lower price I almost purchased a second one, but then I realised I really didn't need it.

A quick google search revealed that the last language on the box is Hungarian. But some web sites seem to write it in two words though (ÉpÃtÅ‘ játék). I have no idea what that's about because I don't speak Hungarian .

Very nice moc, I keep looking at the pictures to see if I haven't missed any details. Maybe it's a suitable set for Lego Ideas? *hint hint*

I think the (current) starter sets offer a good price-to-value, even more with an additional discount. Last week I saw the older ones at a local toystore for €7,5, which is a good deal for Belgian standards I think. Even the newer ones (space/diving) are good at €9,9. They make the polybags look expensive though. I'd like to see newer starter sets offer the same flexibility as the (de)construction one. I purchased two of those because the minifig torsos, legs and headpieces can be used in lots of believable combinations.

Interesting topic, I think I'll keep an eye on this one because it looks like a useful technique for my own photography. You're probably allready aware of this, but there is a nice article on the brickblogger about forced perspective: link And if you do a google search on 'lego forced perspective' you'll find tons more pictures and articles. It seems that Lego is a really nice tool for any photographer learning about perspective and studio photography in general

My earliest memory of playing with Lego was with this set: The 6882 Astro Grappler
-
The picture of the micro set is shown right next to the anouncement on the book's cover, where it says 'exclusive micro-scale space cruiser'
-
If I'm not mistaken the set should be added to your virtual bag/cart once you reach the required amount you need to spend. Also, I see you're from the USA. So keep in mind that the promotional set isn't available yet in the US, that's next month I believe.
-
Becoming a VIP is easy and instant, just register on the S@H website :) The pirate polybox will be available until july 11th.
-
So we need a 'classic retro vintage whatnot' reissue to get new parts? I can see the humo(u)r in this
-
As Jodawill said, the classic space set was available in Europe months before it was released in the USA. And it looks like this will be the case again, we'll be seeing this pirate set in Europe next month. I don't know if this has always been the case in the past, but it seems Lego mixes the release dates per continent for some of the polybags. Unless they're directly linked to a set, like the cookie smuggler or mini mini cooper. Next month we'll also be seeing the SW AT-DP polybag in Europe, which the USA allready had a few months back. The odd thing is it was available through normal sales channels at the same time. I think I saw the AT-DP polybag in Belgian stores in january for a price of 3 or 4 euro. So why bother spending a lot of money to get it for free next month? :)

I see you're from Belgium, so don't forget to check the stock of the Lego store in Wijnegem (Antwerp) as well by then. I found a couple of exo suits there 'mid craze' when they weren't available online anymore. -
I like this MOD/MOC, especially how you made your own version of the baseplate. In true Lego spirit you solved a problem with other bricks and came up with something customized to your likings :) Big thumbs up from me!

VIDEO Review: 70411 Treasure Island - AWESOME!
Humdrum replied to Bricks Planet's topic in LEGO Pirates
I must say, it's the first time I've ever seen a set being reviewed this way. It's a really clever, funny video and well executed. I really like it :) Well done! I'm looking forward to more videos like this! -
Maybe they'll keep the appropiate polybag for when this thing is available to non-VIP customers? Or perhaps it's a 'hidden' bonus upon purchase? Much like the Mini Cooper last year, where you got the mini mini cooper with an early VIP purchase...

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Humdrum replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
I gave in to nostalgia and got me the 70412 Soldiers Fort and 10679 Pirate Treasure Hunt. Now I'm contemplating getting me a second Soldiers Fort, and two 70410 Soldiers Outposts for modding/moc-ing purposes. As a kid I never had any of the blue coat buildings/ships, I did have 6270 Forbidden Island, 6285 Black Seas Barracuda and a bunch of the smaller pirates themed boxes. So now I'm going to try building something that goes with those sets :) -

I'm afraid not :( *edit* unless you're talking about the canal ring house on the left side of the cover (second from the left), in which case it does have instructions. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Funny coincidence, last week I received my copy of this book: And the central idea behind it is exactly what you're describing. In this book they show you how to build one 'template building', then you get to choose how to make it fit in any theme you like. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I still want my trampoline store! Back to serious spitballin': how about a structure to tie all the modulars together? A modular grade town square/ esplanade/avenue/... Or perhaps other spacious element which fit in any town: a zoo, a park...
