  1. No I live near Brussels, but traffic permitting it's only a twenty to thirty minute drive to Wijnegem. I don't visit the shop in Wijnegem all that often, only for promotions I really want like the snowglobe.
  2. I was there last monday and there were no special bricks in the wall. It was mostly filled with parts for the pick-a-model build, a penguin. Imho the only interesting part was the tan 2x2 tile (no studs).
  3. I agree it's not easy to lign those turntables up. In LDD I can't even make it work at all. The technique used in the book seems to be a 'light' version of the 10182 Cafe Corner construction. However, the Cafe Corner version works both in LDD and 'real life' without stressing the outer walls or making it all lean back. The downside of the CC version (imho) is that it uses (floating) stairs/steps on both sides of the door.
  4. Lovely building, I'm glad to finally see it built question: did you have any issues with the door? I wanted to use the angled door technique in one of my own builds, but following the instructions in the book I found that the whole construction leaned back slightly. I think I can see that on one of your pictures. Nice build otherwise
  5. I was there for the opening on Thursday, and it was too crowded for my liking. But then again I expected that would be the case. A few years ago I went to the first anniversary event of the store in Antwerp and that one was pretty crowded too, especially for a store the size of a shoebox. Anyway, the staff outside did their best to entertain the crowd, or at least the part standing in front of the store. The people in the 'side queue' didn't get as many opportunities to receive a free Gingerbread House set. I was very happy to get one, since I skipped this freebie last year. Together with the mini store and 24-in-1 set I walked away with a nice amount of free bricks that day I reckon The mini store is also a lot bulkier than I expected, I had good fun stuffing/puzzling my luggage together at the hotel afterwards. I reckon I'll visit the store again in a more quiet period, so I can finally enjoy and take pictures of all the builds in the store.
  6. I probably allready mentioned this in the other thread, but I'd like to see a historical theme centered around the Mediterranean Sea: Romans, Greek, Egyptians, Carthaginians, Gauls (or Celts in general), Moors,...
  7. If I may offer a suggestion: search YouTube for 'LEGO city layout' or 'LEGO city update' or... That way you can see the modulars in different configurations, since they're an excellent choice to begin a layout.
  8. I'm kind of surprised that people didn't know we wouldn't be getting this poly in August. It's not mentioned anywhere on the European S@H calendars for the summer. I'm fairly confident we'll be seeing this poly in the coming months. I do feel Lego confuses (AFOL) customers by only releasing/leaking the North American calendar ahead of schedude. So in Europe we need to remember to double check our local calendars.
  9. All this talk about a hospital made me think of the classic videogame Theme Hospital. I'd love to see Lego make matching minifigs of the patients with the funny diseases. Minifigs with bloaty head, 3rd degree sideburns, spare rib, uncommon cold,... yes please!

    Ronda

Olives yes, since Andalusia is covered with endless olive farms. You might want to exchange the pizza for tapas though, since Ronda is located in Spain I've visited Ronda/Andalusia a few years ago, this moc definitly brings back some nice memories!
  11. The next modular is obviously going to be a trampoline store with adjacent first aid centre. Why else would Lego introduce that new wheelchair in the park set, or the CMF on crutches? So obvious! ;)
  12. I waited until today to order the fun in the park set, so I could get the free 40221 fountain polybox. Together they represent a better value for money in my opinion. €45 is a tad on the expensive side for just the park set. Luckely I also had some VIP points to further reduce the price. If I get another copy of this set I'll definitly look for a better bargain elsewhere.
  13. Not a bad idea, but maybe Lego was a bit reluctant this time around. I really like(d) the Classic Pirate set they gave away last year, but a lot people didn't because it was a redesign with almost no genuine 'classic' parts.
  14. Airport obviously
  15. My apologies if this has allready been mentioned, but I'd like to see a Roman Empire theme. Mainly because I missed out on the CMFs, but I think the architecture lends itself well for a Lego theme.
  16. My experience is that such sets have a large price fluctuation and that it's a matter of finding the right deal. The normal price for 60097 (city square) here in Belgium is €170 (195 dollars give or take), but I got my box for €119 (135 dollars) right after the holiday period ended in january. The same goes for 66493 (blue cargo train value pack) which ranges from €160 to €270.
  17. I believe there's a topic on this forum which offers LDD files for the various modulars. Download the one for GE and modify it to fit your needs :)
  18. I'm not 100% certain if this is what you're looking for, but I like greg3's Ballabreek layout: Ballabreek 2016. It doesn't have the classic modular street layout, instead it has a lot of smaller nicely fleshed out buildings. I'm contemplating building a small city myself, and some unpolished ideas I have at the moment: - expanding the shops in 60097 City Square a bit, to fit the 16x16 baseplate size you mentioned. - modding the 31026 Bike Shop & Cafe into a bigger (but not full size) modular kind of building - adding some of my 1980's collection buildings - moc-ing some smaller buildings - ... there's a lot you can do without having to move into the modular sized projects straight away. Here are some more small city projects I found on Eurobricks: - child's play layout by Adamskii: link - city layout by Peteris_Sprogis: link In any case if you google 'eurobricks small lego layout' or 'eurobricks small city' or... you're bound to find lots of pictures, ideas and forum threads. Have fun building!
  19. I concur with the previous comments made, it's a really nice/awesome/stunning/... (add more superlatives here) build. I'd also like to add that I like the photography of your models, 'the infinite coloured background' (for lack of a better term) really makes the model stand out. A standard desk or living room background wouldn't do these moc's justice.
  20. Very nice layout, there is a lot to like on a (relatively) small space: - the overall look of the city is not dominated by modulars - the mix of old style (open back) and creator buildings works well - there's some nice moc's - ... Five thumbs up! I've been contemplating starting a layout myself, but I don't have a lot of space to do so. It's very inspirational to see what is possible with limited space. Do you have an estimate on how many 32x32 baseplates fit in your layout by any chance?
  21. The Ferris Wheel was released last year, so I don't think it's going to retire anytime soon.
  22. Sorry, I specialize in chocolates :)
  23. If you're going to associate Belgium with a food stereotype, beer would be the better choice. Or the incorrectly named French fries... they're Belgian! To quote wikipedia: Another Belgian 'stereotype' is available the Lego catalogue: the saxophone player from the CMF series. The sax was invented in Belgium by Adolphe Sax in 1840.
  24. I'd love to see a remake of 7905 :)
  25. Of the goodies I purchased last year: Favorite new theme: Not exactly a new theme, but I like the second wave of Movie sets that were released in 2015. Favorite new set: A toss up between various City starter sets: construction, space, deep sea. Favorite new minifigure: 5003082 Classic Pirate Minifigure (polybox) Least favorite new theme: Pirates, even though I got all the sets minus the ship. The released sets don't feel fleshed out properly. Least favorite new set: Generally I only buy the sets I like (duh?), so I'm thinking about some of the (free) polybags I didn't care for. Least favorite new minifigure: Again, probably some polybag I didn't care for.
