  1. OK, what the heck is Octan and why are there all these references to it in mocs?
  2. Well call me crazy, but I just think it's about time we openly discussed the completely obvious connection between the moon, the so called extinction of the dinosaurs and the mysterious advances in post WW2 computing technology.
  3. That office is really nice, just like the show, good lighting too. Mulder and Scully's torso prints are great.
  4. Hi all, I was not sure about posting this moc due to its extremely sensitive nature, but it seems to have gone down well on Flickr. So here it is, the truth about the moon landings! "Houston, we have a problem.."
  5. I will create a thread in general discussion regarding Lego as art. I'm interested to hear what people have to say on the subject.
  6. Well I certainly didn't expect a discussion on what constitutes art and the right to freedom of expression when I logged into Euro Bricks today. I appreciate that it was allowed to continue and reach a conclusion of sorts. What I find interesting is that some consider Lego creations as art and others do not. Perhaps that would make a good topic for the general discussion section?
  7. "A picture is worth a thousand words." This familiar statement communicates the idea that a complex series of "messages" can be conveyed by a single image. What those messages are however is not always clear. We ask are selves "What does this mean? Why did the person do this? As we can see from this thread a clearer explanation was sought in this case and TBA furnished us with one. We breathe a collective sigh of relief when we see he was earnest in his intentions. Polish artist ZBIGNIEW LIBERA courted the same controversy with his Lego sets of the Holocaust. The same questions were asked "Is this appropriate using a child's toy to depict such a serious subject?" What is an appropriate medium for such shockingly horrible subjects? Chalk? Paint? Text? Or a comic book? Art Spiegelman's Maus which depicted the Holocaust in comic book form featuring cartoon animals instead of people. He was a comic artist and used the medium he knew to convey the story of his families wartime experiences. Just like Animal Farm, it's never going to be comfortable reading and perhaps it never should. Next we say "Is this the right place to display such a thing?" Well we decide that, where is the "right" place is. I for one do not like this image but I would defend TBA's right to post it. Just like all those images of Lego World Trade Centre buildings or Lego crusades or Iraq or WW2. I feel uncomfortable seeing them but that is just my opinion. I don't think they should be censored. As a AFOL community or culture we should be able to tolerate such images at least.
  8. I'd buy this battle pack. Coolness.
  9. Great build, it looks huge. It's a shame we can't see the model in all it's glory. You should post more pics.
  10. Blimey! That's massive. You have lots of great details in there too, well done.
  11. Brilliant. Those roof tops must have been very difficult to build. Well done, it's a great build inside and out.
  12. Nice, kind of like a Dragon Fly.
  13. I didn't know that was in the offing. Castle stuff is pretty thin on the ground at the moment. I hope there's a new wave it's a great theme. This is what I'm after. A visual catalogue of the theme. I don't know the names of the fractions etc. checking it out now. Yellows what I'm after. I'm not familiar with all the CMF series apart from the last two. I'll check the net and see what figs match the theme, thanks.
  14. Whoops, missed the vote. Good idea for a competition though. Seems like Category A really captured people's imagination.
  15. Hey thanks. Looks like I'm too late to vote DOH!
  16. Hi all, After getting into Lego again about a year ago I've bought lots of sci fi and city sets. I'm working on my first castle moc. I am looking for advice regarding interesting castle type mini figs. I have 70400 The Forest Ambush and love the guys with the silver helmets. I am looking for some more variety for my castle like knights or king type mini figs. I can't find any others at Toys r us or on amazon. Can anyone suggest some mini figs I should look out for on EBay or Bricklink?
  17. Sith Fury class interceptor was a really interesting build and design, very clever how it went together. It's and great set. Under rated compared to the fan favourites like The AT-AT, Star Destroyer etc..
  18. Dirty, yes. Hairy, yes. Smelly, no.
  19. A great shot and the scale makes the image very interesting. That kitchen looks almost real.
  20. Hi all, Here is an MOC based on a recurrent theme in European religious painting. Warrior angels vanquishing demons, often depicted as knights with lances. I thought it would be an interesting topic for an MOC before getting back to the robots and aliens and alien robots.
  21. I've seen it on Flickr I think. Great stuff.
  22. Excellent build. All the right shapes present for the ship. I like the way you put in the seating area from the show. Nice attention to detail and the Rebel symbol on the base plate really tops it off.
  23. The Lego Movie sets as they cross all the themes with a real flare for design present in each set. They are all so varied with great parts, colours and very useful minifigs for vignettes.
  24. Thanks for the kind comments folks. It took me around two weeks to make. I'm glad for like it. I might try doing an Alien at some point to keep him company.
  25. Saw this on Flickr, nicely detailed for it's scale.
