Very original. Didn't know these things existed. -

The rear suspension is very clever. I really like it. How are the tubes for strength? I thought they'd be weaker than beams. -

Great details on this beast. Things like thee gas tank access door, the centre console and glove box that open really make this model stand out. How long did it take you to build it? -
Are you doing side cutting with a drill? If yes, consider getting an endmill, possibly a ball nose endmill if you are interested in real 3D milling (angled surfaces). They cut much better on the side than a drill and it will speed up the machining time. You can get them from places like McMaster-Carr. Also, Sacek's "mill" offloads the path calculations to a computer, which then sends coordinates to the Mindstorms controller. There could be a couple of advantages to doing that: you don't need to handle an exotic file type on the controller brick, and you are not doing heavy calculations with a comparatively weak processor. In any case, nice job on this build. I look forward to seeing a video.

Technic General Discussion

Nice hack, what power supply are you using? -
I built a small vehicle for a speed trial and started thinking about LEGO speed records. There's no official tally of speed records achieved with LEGO vehicles. There are some impressive results, such as Sariel's Torpedo Trike and jaumeBCN's 27km/h car, but they are not tested according to any official rules. The first problem lies in measuring the speed. You can strap a GPS to the vehicle, adding weight, but giving you a very good reading. You can run the vehicle over a known distance and time it with a chronometer, risking mistakes in your readings. There are a number of relatively cheap (under $100) radar guns available, but most people build one or two models for attempts at speed records and probably would rather spend the money on bricks. The second issue are the test conditions. In automotive land speed trials, "the accepted record is fastest average speed recorded over any one-mile or one-kilometer distance, averaged over two runs in opposite directions (to factor out wind) within one hour of each other." Since we won't see a sudden invasion of the Bonneville Slat Flats by LEGO builders, the easiest way to control the conditions would be by doing the speed tests indoors, like in a not-very-busy shopping mall. This would have the added benefit of a smooth surface, increasing the measured speed. Here is a list of elements to standardize: method of measurement, number of runs required, acceleration distance allowed, distance of the speed run and accepted components (including lubrication). There are probably ones I've missed. Please let me know your thoughts about this.

Models like yours make this MT contest very enjoyable. The ball connectors are a great choice. The only thing I can see that could be changed or improved is the height of the seats or the size of the steering wheel - the gap between the two is a bit tight.

Very well done, especially the rear end. The Sunday driving speed made me laugh.

[MOC] PF Controlled Hot Rod

I like this. For colour changes, there's always Photoshop. -
I considered it, but I think the geometry uses some illegal building techniques. If you're OK with that, I can provide instructions.

Great video! Was the body built on purpose to come apart at the smallest impact? -
In my experience white bricks don't show up well against a white background. It's a challenge in still photography and I imagine it's the same problem with video. In cases like this, I think a stronger contrast colour used for the background works much better. More on topic: Thanks for the review, Osuharding1. The car looks great in white.

Thank you for the feedback. The goal was function over form, hence the ugly cabin. I'll spend some extra time on aesthetics on my next build. Here is a picture of the leftover parts, minus the wheels and string:

I made a C-Model out of the Customized Pickup Truck set. The details are posted here. I will add a video this weekend. Video now available.

I'm pretty sure you can do both. Plug in the RJ connector to the programming brick and the other end to the motor. You can contact the seller to be certain.

I think this cable should do the trick: http://store.firgelli.com/mobile/Product.aspx?id=37507 - I haven't tried it but now I know what I'm buying this weekend. If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can make one with the instructions from this video: The official LEGO solution is to use cable 8886 or 8871 with cable 8528. See question 10 at http://powerfunctions.lego.com/en-us/faq/default.aspx Edit: LEGO solution uses compatible cables.

[MT] Icon Bronco

The body is extremely well done. You couldn't mistake it for anything else. Can't wait to see the internals. Saw them now - for some reason the pictures didn't load on my phone earlier. Chassis looks pretty good, too! -
The LEGO store in Downtown Disney has something like this set up. Part selection is rather limited, especially when it comes to wheels (I think they were all wheel hubs without tires). You can see a picture here: http://ocmomblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/legoraces4.jpg The cars are lined up at the top and stopped by something that looks like a rake. The store employee then lifts up the rake and the cars take off. If I recall correctly heavier cars tended to go down faster and in a more straight line. This is most fun if you have many competitors in one place. It means the cars are run under the same conditions, which will not be the case if everyone has to build their own ramp and time the run with a chronometer. /edited for typos

LEGO NXT Problem
BusterHaus replied to dr_spock's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Blown capacitor. They have a tendency to swell at the tip with time/use. You can replace it or get it replaced by someone who's familiar with electronics. It doesn't guarantee that it will fix the problem. I'm not sure if TLG will assist you in this since you opened up the unit. Good luck.
