Actually, all Transfomers stories exist in the same multiverse. So, no, they don't actually reboot, they just switch a la DC to a new universe. I understand Disney's need to crank out low budget plots to sell toys to children. I don't agree with their "need" to just haphazardly throw out 30 years of canon. I understand that the post-RotJ canon was filled with problems, and I don't try to stand in their way on that. But to throw out such gems as KoTOR in the same trash can as Splinter of the Mind's Eye? No. No, no, and no. There is a reason that that game made best of 2002. No argument. But, you have to have skilled writers to have skilled writers. The only studios that even try to write a decent script* anymore are Marvel and Pixar. *I'm specifically talking about sci-fi. Although, to be honest, this applies almost as much to the average slice of movie offerings nowadays.

I'm on agoodfella's side when it comes to vigorously standing against the SDCC exclusives, but I do agree with this. agoodfella: I think you're letting this argument control your emotions. You started out as being a really calm, reasonable person(something I admired, we really could use more of those), but this last comment feels kind of angry. I think I understand what you're feeling, as I've had the same issue too. I think you should take a day off from posting here, and just go breathe. Play with your kids, take your wife to dinner, etc. The thread and the argument aren't going anywhere, and you can come back rested, and calm. If I'm wrong, I apologize, it just reminds me a lot of how I've acted in a previous situation (we really need an :embarrassed: fig head)...

ACPin himself used the original in his Naboo MOCs, and I hardly think that anyone can argue that he isn't one of the greatest SW builders there are. It's a matter of choice, and that's how it should be treated. Some people like one thing, others like another. If I was going for movie accuracy, the 2012 probably hits that mark the closest. But, I also appreciate a LEGO set that's a LEGO set. And, like many people here, I find that the blocky sides of the original set feel a lot more LEGO than the SNOTted near-MOC X-Wings that have been more recently released. (Not to mention all of the little cupboards and crannies to store things in - try to find the same amount of those on a modern set!) Also, let's not forget that the original is still the only set to have Wedge Antilles in it. LEGO has consistently avoided placing two figs of the same Red Squadron pilot * in X-Wing sets, a choice I highly applaud. *Obviously not counting Luke Skywalker.
-
If these sets have a jungle background...why can't they be set on the relatively untouched Bota Magna, or in that area on the fused Spherus Magna? I really hope they don't go with a reboot. That never goes well: Star Wreck*: The Drunken Frat Jerk Jock Years The Amazingly Poor Role Model Spiderman And, a quick nod must be made to the upcoming Star Wars VII: The Disney Empires Strikes Down Thirty Years of Beloved Fandom *Also known under the foreign release title: Star Wrek: Lens Flares Are Not the Same Thing As Plot On the good side of things, this is LEGO. When I found out that Ninjago was continuing under the name Ninjago: Rebooted, I was understandably irate. Then, when they revealed that it was a deliberate joke, I had a good laugh. So, it's not like LEGO doesn't have some idea of how hated reboots are. Also, Bionicle was one of the most beloved projects of its time, and with LEGO's tendency to not lay off workers (other than that one project ), it's highly likely that a large portion of the original creators are still there. I'm fairly sure that they can find a way to make the story fit so that it's both new, and not a reboot. LEGO isn't some evil entity, they just want to make money. And, Bionicle has many, many, dollars still left in the story-line.

I agree with what you said about the simpler designs. I prefer fleshies for licensed themes, and I do like it when I can find a modern fancy torso that matches up with what I'm trying to make, but there is a certain attractiveness to the way that they used to be made. When it comes to yellow minifigs(we really need a slang word for those...), if they're for my planned town, I do prefer them simple for that, especially when it comes to face-prints.

survey Picture versus Video Reviews
Lind Whisperer replied to Bonaparte's topic in Forum Information and Help
Another problem with videos, is that if your connection ever slows, YouTube almost instantly drops the frame-rate down to 144p, which makes the video look not entirely unlike those New York Toy Fair 'Upcoming set' videos - e.g., not exactly the kind of quality you'd want to watch if you were debating whether or not to buy something. Another issue is that lighting is often rather poor, significantly lowering the quality even more. On a more personal note, it might just be me, but I find that people playing with the mini-figs and making them "speak" can be a bit distracting. On a positive note, the type of video that you embedded, with good lighting, clean white backgrounds, and a tiny bit of stop-motion to give the set a bit of life, is definitely worth watching! If all video reviews were like that, then I would probably switch to them as my personal preference. -
Early LEGO in Norway, Sweden, Finland
Lind Whisperer replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
First of all, thank you very much for this wonderful resource! As I was reading through the pages, I started thinking that perhaps my town needed a modular/modular street built out of these classic bricks(I try to keep my town within LEGO canon, and a "classic" street would fit right in). I was wondering if you knew just how strong the printing on bricks like the slanted thin "Cinema" and "Kiosk" 1x6s is. Would it be possible to run them gently through a dishwasher, or would that obliterate the printing entirely*? *I apologize if the image of running bricks through a dishwasher makes you wince. I am not a destructive person by nature, I have medical reasons that don't permit me to buy second-hand bricks casually(as in, ever. For the nostalgia factor of having a classic street, I'm looking into my options.). -

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Lind Whisperer replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Ooc: I'm not sure how you'd mark this, but I shouldn't have the Darker Ethereal Deck equipped since it's a throwing weapon - unless I rolled a 5 or a 6 "That's the worst impersonation of me I've ever seen - my hair is much nicer than that!" Lind quickly reshuffles his Darker Ethereal Deck. "Ouch. Almost got a paper cut." He attacks McCoy again with his Darker Ethereal Deck. I was originally going to mention this when I first saw it come out back in 2013(when I still didn't have an account,) but there is a new way to get the Falcon rigging pieces from LEGO. I didn't mention it because I was sure someone else would, but apparently not. The 2000431-1 Connections-Kit. Take a close look at the center. Yep. They are. The only problem, is that it costs $754.99 per kit. This could be worse, though. That's three individual riggings. The set as a whole has a large variety of other parts, which could make up the difference. My suggestion, is that three (or four) people pool their resources together and buy one. I'm not sure how much I could add, but I'm fairly certain I could chip in a small sum for a few of the less in demand parts(I like the looks of those railings, and I could use some gears for a project I've had in mind...).

Ambassador Project - Haven Guard Flag & Torso Designs
Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I personally support the dark orange, and here's why: When I first saw the Haven Guards, the first nationality that came to my mind was that they looked rather Dutch. Of all of the navies in the world during the Age of Sail, there were five European powers that were the most powerful - the English (represented by the Imperial Guards I and II,) The French, (Imperial Soldiers), the Spanish, (Imperial Armada), the Portuguese, (unrepresented), and the Dutch (unrepresented). Orange is in many ways the unofficial color of the Netherlands, a trend that has existed since the days of Willem van Oranje of the House of Orange. This might be a fine time to ratify this lack of representation of a major world power in the LEGO Pirates universe. If this theme is based around a harbor, (where trading presumably is a large part of the economy), then the similarities continue, as the Dutch were known for their successful and widespread trade endeavors. -

Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
My personal favorite: Second favorite(it's a bit of a tie with my first, but the white on this is a little more distracting than most people would probably enjoy): -
Anyone else hoping for a pirates line? We've had skeletons, dragons, snakes, more dragons, nindroids, and even more dragons... I fer one be thinkin' tharrt it be high time ta' see Cap'n Soto in mini-fig form. Of course, they'd be makin' t' pirates out to be t' weaker o' t' two, which be rather ridiculous, see'in as how everyone be knowin' tharrt pirates can beat a bunch of goofy pajama men arrny day o' t' year! (Also, we do have a(separate, presumably) pirate ship coming out sometime in the next year or so...they might try recycling some prints from that to cut down on costs...)

You...do realize that cars are a completely different market than minifigures, don't you? LEGO exclusives, even as the fanbase expands, are still selling to a fairly small market. It's a matter of percentages, and the eBay scalpers are getting a pretty sweet deal on them. SDCC are at the top of the chain as the prices of LEGO collectibles go. LEGO rates them as being worth about $2, give or take. Now, let's just go with the lowball number of a exclusive being worth, say, $250. That's 12,500.00% percent more than the original price. Compare that to a Cafe Corner, originally costing $139.99, now selling for, let's say, $2,000. The percent? 1,428.67% more. That's a huge difference.
-
Just for the record, I support the SDCC20xx idea. It gives con attendees a rare exclusive, while the consumer who isn't able to attend/pay truly ridiculous sums on eBay to buy from scalpers(e.g., nearly everyone) is still able to acquire the characters/character outfits for their collection. You will notice my use of the word "characters". That is a key word. I'm not protesting LEGO's right to make con exclusives, I'm protesting their making exclusive characters and costumes. Sure, you don't have to have Zur-En-Arrh* Batman to have a Bat-Cave...but what if I, rather reasonably, want my Bat-Cave to have the usual row of Batsuits? There will always be one space empty, unless I let some scalper take his pound of plastic. *Granted, someone will of course point out that Zur-En-Arrh Batman was originally from another planet...Until Grant Morris's take on it, in which it is a suit that Batman wears as an alternate persona of sorts.
-
I agree that the car shouldn't be damaged(it draws too much attention away from the rest of the set), but let's not forget the target audience. I seriously doubt that the majority of Exo-Suits were being sold to children.

Actually, I'd love it if LEGO started releasing boxes of basic bricks again. The 2x4 used to be the commonest part ever, now the only way to acquire decent amounts of them is through Bricklink or PAB...

I considered the possibility of their being Barraki eyes, but the bley holder excludes them. Note, when I refer to the holder, I am referring to the hollow stud, not the brick that the hollow stud is on. Barraki eyes sink back over the holder, hiding it, whereas diamonds can't. If you look closely, you can see the holder - ergo, they have to be diamonds.

(MOC) Guardians of the Galaxy: The Collector's Relic Room
Lind Whisperer replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in LEGO Licensed
The hair is from Doctor Emmet(BttFDelorean), not sure on the face, the torso is from the Collectible Minifigures Caesar minifig, with Dark Red arms and Flesh hands, and the leg assembly is made with the legs from an Alien Conquest Alien Grunt, with plain black hips. -
I personally like it, and am quite satisfied with the final result. I agree that the workshop isn't really as big as it might be, but we have to remember that LEGO probably had to cut the size down, after the sales of the Market last year, which I've heard weren't exactly optimal(Not sure why that one didn't do better, it was a lovely set - can't wait to put it out again). It's well built, and I especially love the exterior - good job, whoever built it! You captured the "Christmas-y" look exactly! Not to mention the other little bits hidden throughout it, like the Ho-ho-home rug, and the Santa Needs YOU poster. It's great to see that the Fabuland sign is still a working mold - I would have thought that they had stopped using it(Now, if they would just give us a sign in New Light Brown...). I'm thinking that I will probably swap out the Santa and sleigh, though. I have the first Advent Calender fig and sleigh, from back in 2005, and although they aren't as detailed(they used the dog mold in grey for reindeer - really rare part there), I think the more classic look might look better, at least in the case of Santa. Any thoughts?

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Lind Whisperer replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Affirmative!" Lind pulls out his Darker Ethereal Deck, and awaits his turn in the order. Ooc: Is there a reason why Arthur hasn't come out of the cellar? Is it just that he's guarding the valuables, or is there some bigger plot picture(e.g., capture, etc.), why he hasn't appeared?- 500 replies

It might just be timing(I really must see that movie, I'm really annoyed that I haven't had the right moment yet ), and they're built on later, but in the picture you shared, it looks like the movie version is missing the yellow spring-loaded launchers on the back wings? Also, after a careful examination of the picture, I am almost positive that those are trans-red diamonds. You can see the bley holder right behind the glow, which wouldn't be possible with any other part.

Amazing work with this! I especially like the cameos from the mouse droids and the R? unit, and the containment cells look lovely! I notice that although there are arm pieces in the barrel, none of the figs are missing arms - was that intentional?
