Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
Lind Whisperer replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
If we get free gold, feel free to take as much time as is necessary! Unless I really don't understand the rules as well as I thought I did, I shouldn't still be carrying my Darker Ethereal Deck. Critical is a two. The cards, thrown by the hand on one trained to wield them, found their painful mark in the shoulder of the cartilaginian. "That's how we deal the damage!" Lind gets ready to attack the shark with his Ethereal Deck.- 500 replies

LEGO isn't perfect when it comes to following advertising laws. LEGO Universe advertised regular updates each month. Try once every three or four months, and very rarely was it a new world or other significant update. If anything, LEGO's re-releasing the SDCC figs would probably get more far, far praise and good feelings than criticism of their advertising. Sure, a few of the people who were planning on making $$$ from over-priced resale would make a fuss. But what about all of the other fans? I seriously doubt that many will complain that they get a chance to own what was once an extremely rare fig. Now, there may have been some rules regarding the SDCCs between companies that we don't know of, which could affect LEGO's options, but I doubt that any of the involved companies would be against making more money, and I would much rather send LEGO, DC, and Marvel my money, than sending it to some scalper.

Ambassador Project - Haven Guard Flag & Torso Designs
Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
Here is my attempt at a "Commander" torso. I was trying to figure out a suitable torso, when I saw this officer in the picture I'd found: Captain of the Guard by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr He might not look like an officer, but recently I have watched several episodes of Águila Roja, and the sheriff has on multiple times worn an outfit that is almost exactly the same. Here's my attempt to replicate it: BrickhavenCaptain by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr I think it turned out fairly well, all considered. Problems: The bley stippling on the collar needs to have a more uniform "dotting". The decorations on the diagonal belt were drawn after the ones on the picture, but they should probably be both cleaned up, and revised to have more of a "LEGO" feel. The belt needs a smoother curve. Also, the gold should be lightened so it doesn't look the same as brown. The decorations on the vertical belt should be cleaned up, and edited. The sash and wrinkles could have turned out worse, but they should both be refined. General clean-up, color refinement. Edit: Here's the torso in dark orange. I think it looks better than the one in black. BrickhavenCaptain - Dark Orange by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr -
Does anyone else here struggle with MOCs?
Lind Whisperer replied to SerenityInFire's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I tried suggesting a Space Sci-Fi story over in in the Sci-Fi thread(Although it would have more been along the lines of Heroica the RPG, with building as more of a side thing), but no one really seemed interested. One way to combat this is to have multiple projects going on at once, and you keep adding to them slowly over time. -
Ambassador Project - Haven Guard Flag & Torso Designs
Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'm really sorry these aren't higher quality. Due to unfortunate incidents beyond my control, I'm limited to only using drawing programs available online. I do think that they give the general idea of what I was going for, though. I looked up pictures of Dutch port guards, but was unable to find any from island ports. I was, however, able to find this picture of the same era Amesterdam City Guard(Warning, it's a pretty huge picture - apologies to the mods!): I based this Harbor Guard uniform off of the soldier with the musket, and the Harbormaster off of the person in dark blue with the big white ruff. Brickhaven Gaurd torso by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr Turned out fairly well, considered the issues I was going through. Problems: Buttons are nice, but the strings need to be thicker, also they need to go all the way down to the bottom. Ruff wrinkles need correcting, and the ruff itself needs to be smoothed out. It needs some pockets or wrinkles in the large empty spaces on each side. Harbormaster Torso by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr I was rushed, and it shows. Problems: Yellow diamonds need to be thinner, and the dark blue quadrilaterals inside them removed. Swash needs to be far, far more graceful, and the wrinkles fixed. Dark blue wrinkles on the shirt itself aren't as bad as they might be, but they still need to be cleaned up. -
How important is it for you to write "LEGO" vs Lego?
Lind Whisperer replied to DPrime's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You make an excellent point with Cul-de-sacs versus Culs-de-sac, but there is one small and significant difference - No one has a copyright on the name Cul-de-sacs, but LEGO does have a copyright on the brand name LEGO. -
It's an emoticon for ¨facepalm¨.

Is the printed R5 helmet forming the front canopy the same one from the Millenium Falcon microfighter? -

I incorporated it. I'm really glad that we're allowed four colors - keeping the belt dark orange just didn't look right. Not exactly sure why I didn't change the buckle to tan in the first place... -
Ambassador Project - Definition of Design Constraints
Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I went in search of the original post where I learned this. On the bad side of things, I made a slight mistake, on the good side, it's a positive mistake: So, to answer your question, torsos, head pieces (and presumably also leg pieces!) can have a maximum of four printed colors, (NOT including base color!) and black is counted. -

Four colors including base color for torso - see my post in the other thread. -

Note to self: Don't comment when half-asleep enough to miss a third fin. Even so, it still looks great! -
Many thanks - When Brickset went down earlier and I needed to embed an image I was stumped until I found this.

Edit: Yes, to four, NOT including base color. Black is to be considered as one of these colors. I took Michaelozzie's, and tried to recolor it to these specifications while maintaining this limit: Michaelozzie torso recolor Mk. II with four colors and base by Lind Whisperer, on Flickr I changed the belt buckle to tan, as the buckles in the provided pic are somewhat gold(and thus arguably somewhat tan), and I changed the collar of the shirt to red. Keeping it white might be a little bit more time-accurate, but then we'd have to change the belt from brown to either tan or dark orange, and I thought it looked better as brown(although I'd be glad to produce examples of either of these if other people feel differently.). -
Who are the best minifig customizers at Eurobricks?
Lind Whisperer replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
My skills aren't perhaps the most creative, as I generally just screen-grab from LDraw, cut the images apart, recolor and stitch them together in new ways, but if we can't find someone else, I could probably fill in the gap, at least until we have someone with more experience. (On the positive side, the designs would definitely be permissible by LEGO!) -

As a die-hard fan of the Old Republic, I must say that this is a work of art. You managed to capture the smooth curves of the front panels with a precision that is uncanny. It looks gorgeous. Well, well, well done, sir! (I especially like the inclusion of the Rendaran-class shuttle - it is very reminiscent of the Voidstar sequence) (They should really have a tag for TOR fans - like I said, this is a work of art. If anything's deserving of a tag, this is.) -
How important is it for you to write "LEGO" vs Lego?
Lind Whisperer replied to DPrime's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I try to remember to capitalize it and use it in the singular, out of respect for TLG*. It may seem a rather silly thing, but here's why we really do need to use it more(although calling people out on the plural isn't really that nice of a thing to do. Wait for a moment to bring it up gently.). Trademarks are a hard thing to protect. Multiple times, a company has made an innovation and come up with a clever name, only to lose the copyright on it because it entered public use too much. If LEGO in lowercase with an s becomes even more common use than it is, and people keep using it as a catch-all for interlocking brick toys, "certain companies" with vastly inferior products could go before the courts and say "Look at all of these people talking about our products with the word ____. ____ has become a generic term, and LEGO shouldn't be allowed to keep us from using it to talk about our products!" How will this hurt LEGO? People will see companies using the term, and assume that they are made by LEGO, not understanding that they not only aren't, but that they have significantly lower production values. They will buy the toys, find them to break ridiculously fast, and then blame LEGO, instead of the companies that actually made the bricks. *That does not mean that I agree with all of their business moves, merely that I support their trademark. -
Agreed. When it comes to collecting, do I "want them all"? Yes. Do I "want them all to myself"? No, I want everyone to have an equal chance to collect them. For example, take the recent Heroica RPG lottery. Every year, one lucky player draws the Anniversary Medallion. It gives a +(number of years the lotto has been run previously) bonus to all stats(and then keeps adding +1 with every year!). This year, I drew the lucky number and won the Medallion. It's quite a thing to say that you own one, seeing as how the game has long since passed 100+ players(and keeps growing!), and there are only three in existence. But, just for the sake of argument, let's say that next year, Sandy decided that every player gets a Medallion in celebration of the Anniversary. Would I have a problem with that? Not at all! I'd be glad that everyone else got to have such a nice thing.

I believe that the green figs are scouts, and that they have the ranking of "Cadet".
-
When you look at it in that lighting, if it didn't have the tan, then it would be the most screen-accurate ship there is, at least color-wise.
-
Keep reading this. After reading it, I understand your comparison...but it has absolutely nothing to do with my arguments. Hey, I'd be perfectly fine with LEGO making them - make many, many more figs! Just either make them being coming out soon in sets, or release them without locking them into an exclusive deal for that outfit. You do actually make a good point here. But, would you not have been also been interested in them if they hadn't been a long-term exclusive?

Somebody likes PAB walls. Seriously, though, good job. You managed to create a curved and extremely hard to capture shape excellently with square parts. Well done!
