I could definitely get behind this. It gives the Con attenders something to brag about, for a few years, and then the average person gets a chance to get it. Of course, the problem then is that LEGO would have to release it in a set in two years for it to work to full efficiency. Otherwise, we end up with a bunch of figs that LEGO "Can technically release, but we don't really have a reason to.".

I would. The color scheme is flexible and fitting to many more environments on the CTT version. Also, his eyes aren't coming out of his hair.

Couldn't agree more with this. I just noticed a few typos that you might want to edit out. When you said, "everyone" you meant to say "everyone who has a minimum of $2500 to pay just to get into the con and also is able to travel to the convention*". By "world-wide", you of course meant "assuming you can pay for airfare and are able to secure a passport." Also, you need to change the "anyone" - it suffers from the same issue as "everyone" up above. You might want to edit this, as in this paragraph you're making the erroneous statement that all completists are able to choose to attend Comic Con, without giving any reasonable proof of this. Hope this helps! *I assume that you also meant to limit everyone to "everyone who": Either lives within driving distance of Comic Con so they can sleep at home, or is fine with sleeping in their car(Hotels are expensive!). Whose boss is letting them take a holiday for the Con(I hope it's a paid one, because all of these costs are mounting up!). Who can afford to pay for travel expenses(Plane tickets and gas aren't getting any cheaper.). And, who can afford to pay for all of these other expenses, as well as having to pay even more to buy the figs off of a Ebay scalper because they weren't able to win one of the tiny amount of figs for such a huge crowd.

I'm hoping we get another #103 update on our next round of battle tonight - can't wait to make another shark pun. I wonder if #103 will be done by then - that definitely sounds like something Lind could slip right through. Unless it's a chimney. In which case, he'd probably get stuck*... *For everyone who hasn't followed #103, I got my arm stuck up a chimney for two or three turns. Don't ask.

So maybe the original, being gray, is post-Battle of Yavin, and the white ones are from the Incom theft? That would actually make sense.
-
Agreed - when I said original, I was referring to the 7190, not the 4504. The 4504 is a work of art, the 7190...not so much:

Of all of the Falcons, if I had to pick one, this is probably the one I'd pick. It manages to capture the shape of the Falcon, without the blockieness of the first one(yes, I know that in the other thread I said I prefer blockieness, but the first "Falcon" wasn't even shaped like the Falcon). I also like that the color scheme isn't the monotones of the 7965. Maybe it's just the TOR in me speaking, but I prefer a few pleasant and fitting accents to plain bley and black.

Does anyone else here struggle with MOCs?
Lind Whisperer replied to SerenityInFire's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Build the trees in the forest, before you build the whole forest. In other words, don't be afraid to build larger creations, but always see the whole creation as a series of smaller builds. Divide it up into small, manageable pieces, and just keep on taking them apart and rebuilding them until they feel right. Also, if you don't have a large surplus of bricks, try building your models first in LEGO Digital Designer. But, do keep in mind that not all bricks you can create in Universal Mode(the one I prefer), exist in real life(or are still in production.). Try using the Bricklink Color Guide to check your parts against. If it's a part and color that are still in production, and aren't Trans-xxx, then there's a decent chance that you'll see that part be released in real life. Hope this helps! -
I guess it's really a matter of taste. If I could only pick one, I'd probably go with the very first AT-ST(granted, it's not the most aesthetically pleasing, but I really like the tricks they used to build it, some of which were quite advanced for LEGO products back then). It seems, that the end of the day, it's a choice of what you personally prefer. Do you prefer nostalgia, or your models being as seamlessly similar to the onscreen film models as possible? Do you think that official sets should be left together, or do you feel free to take them apart/modify them? And the answer? It's LEGO. All of those are good choices. Every* choice is awesome**. I think that sums this conversation up. *Unless you're choosing to use M*g*bl*cks. **I would have had a direct LEGO Movie quote here, except I still need to see it.

You go to the Heroica Hall thread, and introduce your character(you type a line or two about them entering). Then, you have them sign up on the quest board (E.g., "___ signed himself up for quest #___"). Sandy keeps the open quests regularly updated on the first page of the Hall thread. You can sign up for as many as you want, but you can only go on one quest at a time.

I'm afraid that this is the first time that I've seen this, but thank you very much for bringing this to all of our attentions! This commercial is especially worth noting in that it features no less than three undiscovered "official" combinations of minifigures for the Western theme! I've assembled a list of them by part, with placeholder names: Clumsy Bandit: Skull Bandit: Stagecoach Driver II: It's surprisingly poor animation, even for back then. LEGO was capable of some very high quality animation for commercials. There was an even better example, that I can't find, but here's an example of what they could do: Even so, it's a lovely find, and many thanks for sharing it! EDIT: It looks like we won't be seeing too much animation from LEGO unless it's in a movie. It turns out it's illegal to show toy sets that require construction assembling without showing a pair of hands(scroll down to the bottom).

BIONICLE has one of the strongest on-going fanbases for a retired franchise of all time, if not the strongest. At least a good .5%(and that's a lot) of all MOCs released on MOCpages are BIONICLE based - not counting the MOCs that contain multiple custom Toa in one post. And, let's not forget the thriving BZ Power community - 12 years and still going strong! LEGO won't lose any money from this, if they stick to the original story. They'll be dealing with a repeat of the ES and RI runs, even at full production. If they throw out the history, though, they'll be dealing with another PoP - just without all the nice tan pieces that fans want to stock up on when they go on discount.

After reading through LEGO Historian's beautifully detailed thread on classic bricks, I've been thinking about making up some mock-ups of possible future modular MOCs for my town, built using nothing but really early parts(with the exception of using modern baseplates, and Technic bricks and pegs for the connections). I could go through Bricklink's inventory by hand, but I was wondering if anyone could link me to a list that showcases bricks released by year. E.g., something like this: 19--: _x_ Brick released in ____ _x_ Plate released in ____ 19--+1: _x_ Brick released in ____ _x_ Brick released in ____ _x_ Plate released in ____

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Pictures and Rumors
Lind Whisperer replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I like the new shape, but I really hope that their "improvements" extend to more than making the helmets shiny*. I agree that it does look like a logical next-gen, though. *Which is rather ironic, seeing as how Lucas was lauded for how much his environments weren't shiny and sterile. Granted, most of the Storm-troopers don't really count...until you remember the Sand-troopers. -
I see that picture, looking for Star Wars, and all I hear is someone shouting, "I want you to search every warehouse, farm-house, hen-house, out-house, LEGO house...!"

I do like what you're doing, although I agree with the others. Try building the framework first, then the paneling around it. It's not as fun as doing the details first, I know - but it will save you future headaches. Also foot-aches, from dropping it on your feet on the way to Brickworld. And then, even more headaches as you rebuild it. Have you ever thought of using constraction figures for this? It seems like that's about the size you're going for.

Early LEGO in Norway, Sweden, Finland
Lind Whisperer replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for responding so fast! Someday, I'll try buying one with poor printing, photographing it, running it through, photographing it again, and then comparing the two pictures. I wonder if using my old microscope would be overkill...probably not. -
I get the feeling that you could make some pretty sweet MOCs with those.
-
No argument about that. I was just trying say that using terms like "thought police" should be avoided, especially when you're trying to prove your point. I should probably take a step away from these threads. I'm in a bit of a tussle with another poster in Action Figures over reboots...I don't want to start a flame war - or worse, unintentionally do something worthy of banishment. "Steps away from computer, and takes a deep breath."

Because the story is just fine the way it is. It doesn't need to be continually restarted to make more money. Having a long running canon is not the same thing as "heaping more and more material". If the writers are poor, than it can turn out that way, but if they are skilled at their work, it means that you have a pleasant, on-going story that you can enjoy the continuation of on a regular basis. Why was I parodying the movies names? Because being a consumer gives me the right to express my feelings about a franchise - that's a fact that few people seem to get. The fans of a franchise are the reason that the franchise continues to exist. We have a right to express how we feel when a company chooses to take a new direction. I choose to express my feelings through parody.

2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion
Lind Whisperer replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Edit: In reflection, I realized that although this was one of the right places to discuss it, my unedited comment could have unintentionally hijacked a thread. This was not at all my intention, and I would appreciate it if a mod could delete this comment altogether. -
I never said that reboots 'always suck,' I said "They* never go well". Completely different. Saying that I said that they 'always suck' implies childishness about this, when in fact I am trying to have a calm, adult conversation. Let's try to be a little bit more accurate when we quote, shall we? *Actually, I said "That", not "They", but the point still stands.
