[WIP] Flying Brick

No matter how long it takes to finish, this is truly a project to be proud of. I'm looking forward one day to seeing where this goes! I don't find any fault with your using non-TLG motors and other parts - a project of that size just can't be supported by anything for sale at the moment. Best of luck, and clear skies! -

Front Row. Both Grimwald and Lind have more health than Darksten, so I'm positioning us to be the first ones to receive free hits. -
It would prevent him from rolling a special, but it wouldn't affect his Encouraging. I appear to have gotten my terms a bit mixed up. Rat King *Encourages beasts and vermin as long as it lives* *Encouraged* Type: Beast/Vermin Level: 12 24 Health: 112/112 Special: Reign of Disgust – Causes poisoned by 12-, confused- and afraid-effects to all opponents. Drops: Remedy I was originally hoping that Grimwald could put it to sleep, negating the Encouraging, and we could CC the spiders before focusing on him. Since Sleep wouldn't affect the Encouraging, I had everyone target him to take him out instead.

(I posted this earlier in another forum, but I'm reposting it here because of relevancy. If there's any issue, I will gladly spoiler tag it.) My personal feelings on this...are not positive, shall we say. There are three different ways or types of comedy, that non-"nerds" can make about "nerdy" or "geeky" topics. The number of types becomes extremely broader for anyone inside a group, of course, but we are not talking about them. I'll talk about the positive way first. With the positive way, there is one simple world view - everyone is different, but that is perfectly all right. You like one thing, I like another, and we respect that. We may even examine each other's favorites, and make new ones! But even if I don't personally like what you like, it's okay for you to like it. The second way, although not as vicious as the third, is simply inappropriate and vulgar, no matter what the topic. You take any topic, no matter how beloved, and spew as many crude jokes, references, and twists as possible about it as quickly as possible. Will a few people laugh? Yes, a very few, but even if it is moderately successful, why resort to the absolute lowest standard? Why not give it the effort it deserves, and come up with jokes that actually are based around humor, and not shock value? The third is one of the worst things about modern comedy. It's what could be called the "hipster" stance. It is when characters are looked down upon for liking something, simply for liking something. It can be occasionally be gentle humor, and not entirely insulting - such as a strong man still sleeping with a teddy bear - but it almost never is. The viewpoint of this stance, is to look down on everything that is against the suggested normal. It allows you to choose what you like - but you understand that by choosing anything that is not "approved," everyone else has the right to make fun of you for it. This is basic bully psychology, and it is a problem that permeates society as a whole, but that does not make it any less wrong. It's not at all necessary for a successful comedy show, even one based heavily on "non-normal" topics - Look at Community, a show that(aside from some extremely irrelevant jabs at religion), managed to go its entire run without resorting to this. Was it cancelled? Yes. But the fan reaction was so strong for it that it was finally resurrected as an online show. If you still like the show, that's all right - but please, next time you're laughing at a joke, just think a moment, and ask yourself how very different the subject in question is from anything you do, and if you were the person in question - would you really be laughing along with the people making fun of you?

True, but "might as well" does not necessarily equate to need. The mold for the robot arm piece is going to be replaced soon, if not already, and it is highly unlikely we will being seeing re-tooling on that, and it has been around as long as the bandanna. The original bandanna is actually a better part for them to keep, simply because it is more flexible. It can be a Santa cap, a bikers rag, Dengar's wrappings - how many of these can the new one successfully pull off?

Look at Iomis's render, and see how everything is laid out. Basically, a ship crashed onto rocks, and they rebuilt the pieces into a hideout. At first, I also thought that it was a skull-rock setup, but when you look at as a shipwreck, you realize it's actually the back panel of a ship, fashioned in the shape of a skull!

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory

Battle Order: Grimwald Gjinko - Rat King Lind Whisperer - Rat King Darksten - Rat King Ooc: I was originally going to have Grimwald cast Scroll of Sleep and keep the King asleep while we killed the spiders, except Sleep does not affect Specials. "Say cheese!" Lind targets the Rat King with his Darker Ethereal Deck. -
EDIT: Never mind, I found the answer.

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory

"Agreed. To the first field! If the extent of its terrors match its rather innocent name, I have a feeling that, for a party as strong as ours, the Windmill will be a breeze..." -
Now, to start rolling some 1s... Okay, bad news, FOG team, we are clearing out every last corner of that place.

I would be very interested. My collection of aliens is probably even smaller than yours, but I could more than make up for it by making the scenes digitally in Blender.

Maybe I should get started on Hero Space sooner than I thought... I seriously have to come up with a better name for that... I'd vote against that, personally. It could work, but you run the risk of severally damaging the medieval vibe. It looses a good portion of the medieval flavor when someone has access to space-age technology. Sentient computers and androids are one thing, since you could theoretically make all of them with a highly creative system of gears and springs, but propelled vehicles capable of interstellar flight... I do think that a few cameo's by "men in strange armor" would be worth looking into, though. It could add a new layer of mythos, without displacing the old ones.

Thank you very much for doing that! I have to confess that I haven't liked the skull very much. It just seemed like too much of a repeat, and the function just seemed a little out of place. But now, thanks to your picture, as I look at it, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the back panel of the cabin of a ship*! It's still, of course, a little bit over-the-top, but no more so than any of the 90's sets. Also, it makes sense - it's a ship that has crashed over the rocks, and the pirates have cobbled together the segments that are still intact. And, best yet, it's in a pair of sets that are at the lower end of the price scale. Well done, LEGO. I guess the adage has been proven true once again - don't judge a set by it's fuzzy box image! *For a prior example of this, look at 6296 Shipwreck Island.

I've actually been thinking that it looks more like a PLAYMOBIL crocodile than a LEGO one. I fully understand that LEGO wants to keep updating their molds, and in some cases it works(see Sebula), but other times, it really feels unnecessary. Take the bandanna. Even I have to admit that having one that is flat around the head instead of being slanted would be useful(what it originally looked like in the prelims). But all they've done is flatten it a bit. It does look slightly more like a pirate bananna, but the problem is, that's all they can use it for now. It doesn't look like anything that anyone besides a pirate would wear. So, the part is less useful than it was, which is not a good idea. (Sort of the same idea with the castle swords. Not everyone in medieval times carried a sword with a handle that looked like that. The old design was much more generic.) If I knew more about reptiles, I'm sure I could present an argument about how they're limiting themselves with this mold also, but unfortunately I don't. I will give them credit, though - Although I still am not entirely liking them in certain areas, I'm actually beginning to like the looks of a lot of the individual bits that make up the sets. There are several clever bits, and the use of parts in some places is really quite clever. I believe it's supposed to be a mortar. Be glad - originally, it sounded as if all of the cannons were being replaced with them. Where it's used does actually work quite well, though, and I have to congratulate them on their placement. They made a not very desirable part actually come off as one of the better features of the sets. Well done, LEGO!

How about a simple "What order were they released?" set-up? There could be pictures of four iconic sets, going from brick-on-top-of-brick building, to modern day SNOT techniques. Underneath each picture, you type the order it was released, from 1-4. For set choices, I was thinking: 375: Castle 6285: Black Seas Barracuda 7140: X-Wing Fighter 10182: Cafe Corner Or, you could just have a list of sets and enter only one name in as the earliest, without any pictures. But, that idea would be open to exploitation, since it would be fairly easy to just pick the one with the lowest number and enter that. Of course, you could prevent that by sticking to 4 digit set numbers, but that could be a turn-off even more than the Galidor question, unless you already have a general idea of what themes were released and when... -
If it's a larger set, then the lack of weight would make it obvious that there's nothing inside it. Of course, that's only really effective above the $30 mark, but you can always shake the boxes...although putting something inside to rattle about would be pretty easy. Heck, you could use fake-brand bricks, if you were trying to match the sound exactly. I sometimes worry myself, how I can think of things like that.

Got it. I've never taken a picture with one, but the Decamodifier actually did remind me of them when I looked at it. I was thinking that there was some sort of pop culture reference that I was missing - it happens annoyingly often... Interestingly enough, they're still making Polaroid cameras even today - I was looking at the different models a few weeks ago. I guess having a printed photograph is one of those things that never will entirely go out of style.

Could someone PM to the joke to me, then? Because all I see is a camera that has a blue flash and takes pictures of animals to print out as cards...or is that the whole point...

Ooc: Apologies all for not posting this before I left for the Fields, I was focusing on my planned purchases and stupidly forgot. Several hours before arriving at the Fields, Lind looked carefully at the sheet. "It is a strange thread that ties its knots around us, picking its victims almost at random, it sometimes seems..." He hoisted his Bag of Holding over his shoulder, and nodded to Warlen. "It appears that Fate has chosen different paths for us, for the moment. It has been quite pleasant to speak and dine with you, and I look forward to some future day, when we are chosen for the same path." He tucked his Bag under his shoulder, turned up his hood, and left for the Fields.
