If by "near future," you mean the generic "someday," then yes, Lind is going to become one, after Black Knight, Dragoon, and Rogue Thief.

Heroica RPG - Decamon Tournament: Saffron Cup
Lind Whisperer replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Lind responds with his Tweetybird (Flying 1), trumping the Rock 2. Feeling a flicker of hope, for the second round, Lind plays a Will-o'-the-Wisp (Fiery 1). -
Lind accepts the trade. "Excellent doing business with you gentlemen! I hope the Glowworm may shine some light on any problems you encounter," Lind said brightly. He looked at his new Scarab(Rock 1). "Nice, very nice. If I'm lucky, I may be able to catch my opponents between this and a hard place...Rock on, chaps."
-
"Thank you, I do believe that that arrangement would be quite satisfactory to all parties." Lind handed Sorrow the Glowworm. If everyone agrees, Lind trades Sorrow one of his Glowworms, recieves a Will-o'-Wisp from Sorrow, and finally trades the second Will-o'-Wisp to Erik and recieves a Scarab. Or Lind trades a Glowworm to Sorrow for the Scarab...

"Is anyone in need of a Luminous to bolster their deck with?"
-
"If he is, I call dibs on the Volt Ant." "On a more serious note, though, someone should make a chart of all the cards available and see what types will make the most trumps. Granted, something like that does sort of fall under the typical "Master Munchkin Strategist, Planner, and General Expert" banner, but then again, I'm not leading anyone here. Actually, though - there's an idea. Only a few of us will make it to the final rounds. Most of us will be beaten in the first couple. But, if a few were to form a group, and all of it who lose, support the last one in the group in the game, with what remains of our card decks, we could have the glory of winning the tournament as a group, if not as individuals. Anyone interested?" "There's no need to seem chicken, my dear sorcerer, it is merely a bird," Lind cheerfully called after the fleeing figure. "And quite a clean bird too, Master Regulator, if I might congratulate you - not foul smelling at all."

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory

Ooc: I like that idea. The loot does not appear to be anything particularly special, other than the Nostrums, and I do believe we can pass on it without worry. If LordoftheNoobs supports it as well, then I believe we shall enter the Apple Orchard, with the Famine Challenge. -

Thanks! In that case, I believe we're ready for the Apple Orchard! -

Ooc: One last thought - would it be possible for Grimwald to consume a Nostrum immediately before we enter the battle, without spending the first round drinking it? If so, since we'll be getting two more of those as drops, that might be in our best interests, since a large part of the plan is based on keeping several of the enemy Asleep, and with the 50/50 chance of a misroll, having a second roll would significantly increase our effectiveness in that area. -
Still though, it only guarantees one winning set - you'll still have to make two more hands to win. Heck, one could almost argue that having such a card possibly puts you at a tiny mental disadvantage, since having one hand guaranteed means you aren't as worried about winning as if you would be if you didn't have the 8, and thereby possibly more relaxed in your other choices*. *Note the use of the "possibly".
-
Yes, but the only ways to have a higher card are to have either gotten one at some other point before the tournament(Like the birds in #120), or to win it from an NPC.

Not having noticed the Dragoon standing behind him, the rogue starts. "No, no, the Munchkins are actually quite pro-chastity, so with us that's rather a positive thing. He has a completely different set of standards and I was just taking rather childish amusement at reminding him...quite childish, actually...very, very childish...I think I hear...I believe I should go stand over there..." Somewhat embarrased, Lind goes and stands in an entirely different corner.
-
EDIT.
-
As if to himself, the rogue murmed with a smirk, "To paraphrase a wise man, from a long, long time ago, in a land far, far, away, methinks thou doth protest rather defensively..."
-
Ooc: Sorry, my bad. I thought we were all mass teleported to the Tournament. Somehow I missed the invitation part.
-
Seeing that the witch was answering questions, at least for the moment, the knowledge-hungry rogue quickly stepped up and took a deep bow. "My sincerest apologies for taking up a few moments of your clearly valuable time, Mistress Witch. I merely wish to satisfy a small question in my mind about these events. Clearly the exact nature of our teleporation here - the conjuring, the transporting, the arrival - clearly such details are private. I merely wish to know - if an individual had been aware of their upcoming teleportation, prior to the occurence, is there any way they could have taken steps to prevent it, to stay where and when they were?"

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
Lind Whisperer replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
I feel slightly stupid. I suggest we skip the challenge for this battle - it will cost us a few GP, but I'm afraid that if we can't cast Sleep, we're going to find ourselves in the exact same place we were before. -
Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
Lind Whisperer replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I am, but I think this time we should try to have a little bit more strategy than we did last time. For being in the 'easy' section, these enemies rather defy the name. Here is my plan. Grimwald focuses on casting Sleep on the Dryad and on the Bugbears, keeping them out of the battle. While he focuses on that, we take out the Cats. Next, we take out the Dryad with an occasional additional battering on it from Grimwald, and then we finally all pile on top of the Bugbears together. We could focus solely on the Bugbears first, but Grimwald would have to spend the whole time keeping the others down, and our attacks are weak enough that if we accidentally let them heal more than once or twice, we could end up spending hours focusing on them, trying to kill them. I think that this way will be the quickest, in the long run." Lind paused a moment, and reached inside his cloak. "Also, I notice you are out of Potions, Master Grimwald. Here are three basic ones - you're our strongest member, and we can't risk you being KO'd again, if we can help it." Lind gives Grimwald three of his Potions. "Unless anyone has a better plan they'd like to suggest, shall we return to the Orchard, while playing fair?" -
"Fairer for you, certainly. But, you're the one needing the trade. And I'm the only person who seems to be interesting in making one, or at least who's spoken up. A Glowworm will trump Fiery and Dark just as well as a Pegasus, and when it comes to levels; well, you're only lower by 2. That might hurt you, or it might not. It'll be the trump cards that are winning the day here, not the numbers - and with all the level 8s people are pulling, a level 3 - bother it, even a level 7 - won't do you any better than a level 1. Still, though - your choice. Just remember, though - do you really want to be facing a Fiery or a Dark, with your Flamboa, and your Genie already played, and you with nothing in your deck to play against them?"

On the side of interesting bits of trivia, NPR once did a piece where they bought so many stocks based on "expert" advice, and bought an equal amount based on throwing darts at a piece of paper. I forget exactly how it turned out, but either the end profits were about the same, or the random dart-picked stocks did better than the "expert" recommended ones. Granted, there are significant differences between a stock market and a strategy card game, but it is actually in some cases is as good a strategy as others might be - especially if you lose the coin toss and have to go first. Sure, you may have no idea what you're going to play next - but neither does your opponent. That's how new players in poker can occasionally succeed against professionals - the pro has no idea of the newbie's playing style.

*Especially when they tell me I'm supposed to lose.

The priest looked somewhat irrated, but stayed silent. A few thoughts flowed through the mind of the Munchkin. *Heroes who admit they think everything is eventually hopeless. Great figures being carelessly killed, with no memory of what they once were. Priests that swear casually. And all of us - we're the heroes of this story.*

"Father*, please to remember your cloth!" *Meant in a religous manner, not as a suggestion of paternity.

Having watched the machine hand out the cards, and having examined the frequency of the different types, the gray-cloaked rogue slipped up behind the Chi Monk. "I just happen to have a Luminous in hand at the moment," Lind said, proffering a Glow Worm (Luminous 1).
