  1. Hi all, I'd like to have a go at making a small scale version of Newman University. Most of the campus shouldn't be too difficult as it's squareish buildings with ground level changes, but I'm struggling to work out how to make the new front building without it being massive. There's also a ground level change 2/3rds along the front. Any ides please?
  2. Hi all, Just wondered if there's any groups or events in the Birmingham area (UK)? Thanks.
  3. Hi all, Just thought I'd post quick update as some parcels arrived. I'm now short about 1300 parts + bits I need for engine/radar mods with a total spend so far of £171.52 (ish). I'm expecting to need to replace some parts once I start building when I work out what goes where (I've assumed most of the technic isn't visible) so the larger bricks are all sorts of colours, although I have kept to greys/black where price was reasonable so hopefully I wont have too many issues. All funded via selling old stuff so nothing from the bank yet which should keep the wife happy. It's strictly in a box now though until the house move is finished at which point I need to recount properly and work out what I need for the last orders. Hopefully the last bits won't be too pricey... It's getting harder to find some of the bits cheaply and some parts have crazy prices so may minimise use of those, e.g. correct levers/telephones.
  4. This is stunning! Love everything about it, especially the size!
  5. Love the play features... well done!
  6. I've seen some great mods adding internal detail. Does anyone know how much of the inner structure has to be re-done and how? What impact on strength does this have? Are there any instructions anywhere?
  7. just an idea... if you could hold the rigging to the right shape off the model... would 'misting' the rigging in superglue (to get that fumey dry look - I don't actually mean spray the whole thing with glue) and then painting it work? Just thought the glue may give a better layer for the paint to bond to and should hold to the plastic better than primer.
  8. looks fab - just starting this journey myself so debating round vs. square radar. Your's looks fab... as does the ship in my opinion.
  9. Thanks, It's currently sitting packed in a box stripped of the outside.... I started trying to improve it but it's had to go away due to an imminent (fingers crossed!) house move.
  10. Hi all. I've decided to take the plunge and have a go at bricklinking the UCS Falcon. I've seen others have spent in excess of £500/E600 on this.... call be naive but I'm aiming to spend a lot less. I have approx. £50/month spare so am selling off some unwanted mini figs and rare models from a certain wargame to help fund, and hopefully reduce costs by using alternative colours/2nd hand pieces. I will probably go for a generic YT200 (is that the right name?) and use the opportunity to add perhaps a splash more colour. Having trouble adding links, sorry for no direct links to these: Mods: H_Solo - love his radar, and guessing far cheaper than the printed. another alternative would be to make a square one instead like the new movie. Engine mod - on H_Solo's as well as others - will go for that - already have the blue round plates from filling gaps in a pick a brick wall tub. Thought they'd make good water, not a space engine though! Getting started.... I've raided my bits box and have approx. 1000 bits already from various sources, price estimate no more than £100 paid, possibly quite a bit less. Photo to come. Also placed a couple of small bricklink orders to get started. Wish me luck! Tips/comments/useful links welcome!
  11. I'm just embarking on this quest myself too... haven't yet started a thread (but will) so I'm interested in the same thing's you're asking. Especially money saving. I thought I was being clever the other day finding three reasonably priced bricklink sellers and ordering from all three at once. It seemed to be working out decent value for money, until I realised minimum spend and average lot cost restrictions. (I'm a bricklink noob....). Anyhow, three hours wasted there.... I've fished out approx. 1000 parts from my own collection to start... quite a few old grey tiles so won't b a full match. I'm seeing it as an opportunity to perhaps jazz up t colour scheme a little as I go dependant on cost an working out what bit's go where. Good luck with your project. Edit: Daphtty - Am I correct in thinking the engine mod is simply a line of alternate grey plates and clear bricks 'forced' o shape and doesn't use hinges? I assume this not only saves money but I better if I were to add lights in the future?
  12. thanks guys, have all the dwarfs now so will try to get some fresh pictures soon and check the stud count. Not sure why some of the above photos have stopped, I've not done anything to them but they're playing up on photobucket as well.
  13. Thanks guys - I had a play the last two evenings with hinges - suffice to say it went back in the box! Will let you know if I get anywhere!
  14. Great work - supported! My only criticism would the lack of a chandelier - perhaps if/when you reach 10000 discuss adding this feature with lego? Especially a collapsing one!
  15. Hi all, I hope this is the right forum for this. I want to have a go at a fantasy house - I've seen lots of great models like in the link below. Any advice? The strange angles are puzzling me... does anyone have wip photos/instructions to show the building structure? Thanks. https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidhensel/14680606623/
  16. Hi all. Have started a new topic to my WIP. C&C welcome. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=105467
  17. Hi all. Here's my (WIP) first attempt at a steam engine. So far I'm pretty happy with the boiler and tender. The cab, wheels, centre coupling and some details need work but they'll have to wait until I can get more bits. The chasis isn't very strong when handled at the moment, may redesign from scratch. It's also having derailing issues on corners - I think the problems the current centre coupling. C&C welcome.
  18. Great use of those sets.... Lovely build!
  19. Looks great!
  20. Thanks srbandrews and zephyr. Have ordered wheels and bricklink (awaiting invoice). Both are a first! Have an idea of what I thInk I'm trying to do so hopefully I've got the bits coming that'll get me close for a first attempt. Have had a play with lid but don't have a pic at home so it's a lunch break job, between time and my preferred 'play with the bits and see what hàppens' method I wouldn't actually get very far with that. As you say haven't bothered with custom rods. Will see how I get on with technic. That's at my parents packed away with the trains from years ago so fingers crossed they can find it out.... otherwise I've got nothing to attach wheels to just yet! Bricklink seemed good once I found the main green bits I wanted. Amazed at some of the prices though. (Both cheap and expensive parts). In the end I think I've got nearly 600 bits for just over £41 plus £22 for wheels. Will recycle an old motor and some chasis bits. That doesn't seem like too bad a price. You'll have to let me know when it's done.
  21. Luuuurvley
  22. Thanks for that! I've ordered some wheels today so depending how long they take to arrive will have a play and try to work out what else I need to order. Will put a link to my results.
  23. Thanks guys! Next time I visit the parent's I'll try digging out some bits and have a play while I work out what I need for a proper train. Does the bogie need any room to move sideways or just pivot on the spot? And chance of photos of the underside of your engine?
  24. Is the third wheel fixed or does it pivot? Srbandrews I was looking at yours at lunch actually. Found it on a Google search. Am I right thinking it's 6 wide? Hard to judge some of these with the new curves. Going by the tender....
