  1. Thanks again! I'd forgot the power connection for the lights, hadn't realised it would fit pf too. Thinking British.... Planning to put the 9v in the tender.. was hoping to try something from the "Torbay Express", almost settled on a king but doubt 9v in the tender would work and would be too big to use on the front bogie. jrathfon - I've got the same level crossing (somewhere probably in several bits - I remember it being quite fragile!)
  2. Hi all, Thanks for the responses, I must say out of any forum I’m on (including non-lego) that’s been the quickest and best set of responses I’ve ever had to a topic! Sounds like I have the 9v system (black motor bogie with metal wheels that draws power from the track. Is the new track and flexi track still compatible with this or is it all plastic now that powers via a battery box with power functions? I did see the Emerald express over the weekend, sadly out of my price range, especially as I’d use it for bits. Will keep an eye out for the lone ranger set, but think I’ll try to track down specific bits I want a few at a time and try to build something more specific. Will probably start with some of the big ben wheels. I’m a bit of a purist but these don’t seem to bother me, I guess it could be because it’s an essential thing. I’ve seen some people use non lego coupling rods too – do these make much of a difference or do lego parts work just as well? Will have a nosey through some of the instructions for ideas. I’ve not been back into lego for a long time, but the amount of bits has really expanded since I ‘ended’ my kids days. Last time I even considered a steam engine I don’t think there were any curved bits other than the odd basic curved brick- there seems so much choice now making those round shapes look good shouldn’t be too difficult! I suppose the next step is to pick something to model – that’s going to be tough! Thanks again – any further advice is still very welcome!
  3. Hi all. I've just come across this wonderful model by someone called Michael gale. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/michaelgale/15266799517/ (can't add a photo via mobile sorry). I've got lots of track from my younger days and seeing this I'm tempted to get back into trains. So where would I start? Where do I get the wheels and are there any instructions online for anything similar to get me started? I'd like to power it using the 'old' wheel unit (via the tender?). The ones from around the mid 90 ' s as that's what I have. On a budget so would prefer to use these new fangled infrared things if possible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ☺
  4. I wish you well and hope we have you safely back sometime in the future.
  5. I think the word here is 'inspirational'!!!
  6. Thanks all! Yes slightly odd mix of figs... just building up a new lego collection.
  7. Thanks for the photo tip, they're not usually this bad, but it was very heavy wind and rain today - no chance of going out and from the weather it's not going to improve for a while here. Will bear in mind. Did try putting all the lights on I could and doing it by a window (not that it helped much).
  8. He's my entry for stage 2 of the warlord community build. I'd also like to claim DoH credits for: Landscape Design - Trees 1 Advanced SNOT (if you feel this isn't large enough is it possible for a sideways rock credit instead?) General building - minifig posing Military Science - Battlescene apologies I forgot to take a photo without minifigs- will try to add one tomorrow. Gorrick hired out his talents to the Red Dragon knights, offering to help guide he through the Nocturnus Wilderness to seek barbarians to recruit to their elite siege troops. They hired a couple of clansmen made camp in a nice sheltered spot and Gorrick offered to hunt some food before settling down for the night before the morning march home. Unlucky for the Dragon Knights, Gorrick didn't return with food, instead Warlord BoneBane and a raiding party... for they had hired him fist to find new souls. Even worse the sheltered spot allowed the raiders to sneak right up to the camp before being spotted. The battle looks like it's not going to go in favour of the Dragon nights.. but what will BonBane do with fresh bones? I wanted to make a tree in-keeping with the lands BoneBane my come from I think it turned out OK but would like to collect more ones and try a much bigger version I future one day. Thanks for looking. C&C Welcome Stage 1 - http://www.eurobrick...topic=100863=

  10. Thanks all for the credits and feedback. There are few flames among the gems but I guess I overdid them on the base. Will have another think for that credit. And yes - You'll be seeing a bit more of Bone-Bane yet...

  13. He's my entry for stage 1 of the warlord community build. I'd also like to claim DoH credits for: Landscape Design (studs up rock) Landscape design (extreme environments - lava) Geography (cliffs) I give to you Lord Bone-Bane. From long forgotten cavern he rides forth to decimate his enemies. He lay hidden for centuries, arising once again from among the bones left from battles between warring clans of orcs and dwarves deep below the Nocturnus mountains. His armies collect the bones from log dead battles and draw power from these by conducting long lost rituals. There's even rumours that should enough die I battle, Lord BoneBane can summon extra power then and there... and has been know to use this to summon al manner of monsters to join battle with him against the world of the living. Many have foolishly tried to attack his keep thinking to destroy him, little realising the futility of battle against such a foe. Several times he has been thought to be dead, his bod smashed and bones scattered, yet he continues to rise up. Perhaps he's a spirit rather than the undead warlord he's commonly believed to be....
  14. Thanks for the kind words everyone. As for total cost - almost complete bag end (1 dwarf missing but two bonus) got for about £50, 2nd no figs for £30, extra-figs and bits maybe another £30-40. Hard to tell as some were job lots/spares re-sold etc.

  17. Gorrick Blackleaf Hi all, signing up to Nocturnus after lots of thinking. He's my sig fig and backstory. Originally from Avalonia and name Rochester the Brave, Gorrick began to despise the ruling classes and the way he was treated as a lowly warrior. Off on an adventure he went, selling his battle skills to whoever would pay the best price. The best price for him came from those in Nocturnus – paying extra for his ‘inside knowledge’ of their enemies. He originally tried to become known as Gorrick, Knight-slayer, but alas the nickname Blackleaf stuck, being a subtle insult to his traitorous tendencies as well as a metaphor for one of Avalonia’s rich green leaves turning sour. He now fights as a living, often earning well, but often causing a nuance to the armies of Nocturnus, for Gorrick has a pure hatred of Assassins and anyone who goes in for despicable cloak and dagger tactics. If you’re going to knock someone off, at least do it face to face. Perhaps another reason why he’s called Blackleaf. No-one’s quite sure why he hates assassins, but as long as he fights well and keep winning battle no-one seems to care…. But then again… perhaps he’s a double agent, still loyal to Avalonia and on a secret mission to exterminate the sly assassins of Nocturnus. Only time will tell.
  18. Thanks all :) I'll admit several parts of the interior were boarderline 'happy accidents' but I'm chuffed with it. The bed came out nicely too... the red bits especially only came the other day as a bonus to another purchase otherwise I think it would have been a plain flat one due to colours available.
  19. Hi all. Fist attempt at a large MOC, 2nd since getting into the afol community. I'd made a tree (larger than the one used here) and brother joked it would look good on bag end, then saw a youtube video of someone who had stretched the original set to fit all the dwarves. So here's my attempt. It's made mostly from two unexpected gathering sets with some other bits thrown in for good measure. I have all the minifigs still to build. C&C welcome. Haven't quite the bit to 'smooth' out the walls so there's the odd random bricks but I have tried to disguise these. All in all it's taken a week to build around work and family commitments. I guess 12-15 hours. Enjoy.
  20. Firstly apologies if I'm repeating things but I haven't time to read all. I'm new to afol community. Goh has really perked my interest but I'm totally lost with it and have yet to puck a faction. A big draw to goh was the degree program. If pirates had something similar I'd be in. A lot a good points have been said already... keep it simple is key with clear explanations. I struggle to follow the story threads in goh ..Some seem to be random builds one after another. Factions.... Love the idea of pirates being wild. My suggestion would be themed and assume all 'races' occupy land in all and therefore give more of geography themes.... desert... euro .... small islands etc. Maybe a monster realm. Let races sail between but fall under a ruler for the land who they pledge aliegence to or go rouge. A look freedom and creativity... but within reason. Too many rules would push me away. Remember the new people. If I struggle to join in with a small collection at the start ill loose interest. Hope that helps rather than repeats. I'd love to be in but wouldn't be regular contributer for now as have a young son (9months) which takes up most of my time.
  21. It's not bad, definitely fits with budget requirements, although I'm not sure the people at the top would accept as it's maybe a little too adapted from the flat design. Very good attempt and if were up to me I'd be happy.....
  22. Thanks guys! Any more also welcome, ideally with a single top layer but as close as possible is just as good. Keep trying plew2000 - I've had that problem myself, in the end I've copied and pasted the link from photobucket straight into the reply box and not using the forums 'insert button and that seems to be working. Otherwise pm me and I'll send you an email add. More responses still very welcome!
  23. Hi all, Trying to do something for work but my ideas haven't worked. Could anyone make the following logo for me out of lego (LDD) and let me know how. Requirements: Needs to be as small as possible (Fewest bricks). Best colour match as possible. All pieces must e available in pick a brick. If a deign is used I will of course credit the designer. Thanks!
  24. This is a great theme and some fantastic ideas for sets and mini-figs. As a Viking re-enactor I'm keen to see what else you come up with and would love to see this in the shops! Love the mini-fig designs too. I may have missed it but are there any companies out there who do custom mini-fig printing? Planning a viking-eske build myself so will try to post a link here if you don't mind? Ne t the AFO community so will be y first proper attempt at an 'adult' model.
