Has the LEGO group released too much 18+ sets this year?
Vindicare replied to JintaiZ's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wonder what’s up with the hit or miss with the black backgrounds with these sets. It seems like it’s nothing new, if you’re a fan of Architecture, but it’s new to me, having just the Elf Clubhouse & Ecto-1. Speaking of just the 18+ sets, I saw the Crocodile Locomotive has it as well, but the Haunted House & NES doesn’t. I haven’t taken a look at other sets though. Just interesting. -
This is great. I would undoubtedly buy this day one, such a fantastic movie.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vindicare replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I love it as well. As someone who isn’t a big fan of interiors, I’m glad to see them rather empty. The townhouse is great because it really reminds me of the Painted Ladies in San Francisco. I’m definitely glad to see slimmer buildings make a return, it makes for a better street view. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Heh, I’m not sure if that’s sarcasm, and I realize Modulars being liked is very subjective. The part that really got me is the comparison of MOCs to official sets. If we got that amazing B&N MOC it would cost $300-400. I know that would be too much for me, amd I’m sure a fair number of others feel the same. The Diner as well. Yes, it’s quite the departure from what we’ve gotten before, but it can still work. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

The Diner fits in just fine, because towns have a mix of old & new buildings & design. Johnny Rockets is much the same. Out of proportion is something LEGO is known for....but the gas pump isn’t one of them. Comparing the 2500+ Bookshop to a 4000+ MOC is just dumb. The MOC doesn’t have criteria it needs to meet or a price in mind. The set is great. Not every building needs to, or should be one gigantic building, that makes for a boring skyline. -
Should people buy Fake Chinese PF motors?
Vindicare replied to Newest_Tech320's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don’t like buying the stuff, but I know a fair amount of people do. I would only go with genuine LEGO, even though it may be harder & more expensive to buy these days. -
Having built the Elf Clubhouse & pairing it with last year’s Gingerbread House, I’m seeing a start to a decent Hogsmeade. The pitched roofs are what really feels like the village. At least use it as a blueprint for those, like myself, who aren’t MOCers. They would need some big time de-Christmasing...and color changes.

I’ve sometimes had issues with that too. No problem with the black background building this set. It was quite an enjoyable build. I love the little sleigh- the boosters are fantastic. I love the shape of the building more now that I have it in hand, but it does feel a bit small... the wrapping station is a great detail, I like how they designed that. Side builds are fun. I can appreciate the tree, this one has a nice different look using those 1x2 plates with cheese as the bulk of it. Not upset at the torsos being the same either, love the print & elves usually do match. Some other color hats would be welcome though. Hopefully there’s still some in the socially distanced BaM towers.

So nice! That really is a great set, it’s a fun idea. And the little briefcase is well designed.

I was crushed when she went over & took his hand... I hope Jacob & co. can get her back. I concur with everything you said regarding her character, it’s a sad path she walked down.

I just took a peek at a review that showed them(briefly). That’s a first. I have a few of the 18+ sets & no black on them. @Pchan1983 How did the instructions read to you?

Any good story will leave you with a lot of questions in the middle of it. Credence went from possibly being a LeStrange to possibly being a Dumbledore, so who knows if he’s truly someone or a lost nobody simply being used as a form of revenge. As for Queenie, “right” time, “right” place. She was a bit lost & vulnerable at that time, her future kinda came crashing down(marriage & possibly her relationship) & Grindelwald preached of a place to belong.
-
It really depends on what they create. If it’s useful & priced right, people will buy it. I haven’t looked into it to see what they offer. All I’ve seen is those plain white storage boxes that you can build on...which could be a more limited market. Even still, I could see non AFOLs buying that if they’re looking for a box to hold things. It could be a trip down memory lane in addition to what they came into the store for.

Just to add a nugget to the pointless discussion... On Brickset, 529 people own the Grand Piano while 1262 own DA. Obviously it’s not an accurate metric of set ownership, but is an interesting glimpse. I was surprised only 500 were listed as owned. Right? The basis of Grindelwald & Credence’s relationship is manipulation. Grindelwald wasn’t even himself interacting with Credence throughout the first. Fawkes came to Harry in his time of need. In a weird way, considering who gave him the Phoenix, maybe Credence needed it as well.

In trying to place DA in my town, I’m curious as to people’s interpretations on how it “fits” in the town. Obviously the Leaky Cauldron is there, but what surrounds it? And, what do you muggles see? That of course will just be imagination...but still. I like to be as realistic as I can, even with added fantasy elements. I’ll try to explain this as best as I can...my plan is(if you’re looking straight at the table) I’ll have Detective’s Office to the left of Brick Bank, then Pet Shop & Bookshop next to the laundry side of the Bank. It forms a backwards L. Then behind those will sit DA(and using The Highlander in DO in place of the Cauldron). So it’s sorta hidden, but will be fully visible from the other side.

Yeah, that’s the biggest problem with that building. Aside from Wheezes, which doesn’t share the baseplate with another building, are all smaller. So QQS seems more in your face because...well, it is. That floor being longer than the rest really makes the pink stand out more than the color itself does. My favorite part of that leak was the price. It could be anywhere from $50 to $120.

This is kinda how I feel. I don’t really care that they’re doing it...but it feels very unnecessary. Maybe Levi’s & Adidias approached TLG...but LEGO having the standing they do, they don’t need the added exposure. I guess you could argue they’re trying to branch out & grab hold of a new sector of fans. Just seems weird if that’s the case. “Here’s some shoes, now take a look at our sets!” Maybe it’s a way to draw in more adults as well.

Ooh, that’s a good idea. I actually started getting some of the bits to make the posts from the Cottage, as that one feels old timey & I like the ribbon on it. I don’t mind them on the fantasy buildings as much though. I love, and own, all of them. I’m not in the camp of disliking the fantasy ones, but I can see how those are less appealing than others. Although a Santa’s Workshop is a given where Christmas themed buildings are concerned, so maybe that played a part.

I’ll start by saying I hate the different lampposts. Putting them all together, it really bugs me. No street has that many different posts... that’s the one thing that always bothered me about this theme. As to selling the previous year(s) sets...that’s usually how it goes. At least I remember it being that way early on. And I bought the train the year after...once I got the station, obviously I needed a train for it. As to size, all the buildings except for the Cottage are small. With the prior two being medium I’d say. And Christmas trees...of course these sets are going to include them, it’s Christmas. I can understand how the more fantasy buildings don’t appeal to many. All those Christmas villages that were made of porcelain or what have you were always real life storefronts & such.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vindicare replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
But the planning for the box change could easily affect this upcoming Modular, as they both were being “designed” at the same time I imagine. I don’t see anything changing though. It seems most AFOLs like the interiors, so I don’t see them going anywhere. Story doesn’t affect the set at all, so no reason to get rid of that. Building types...I would also say no, because I don’t think there’s much of a change in the target audience. Detective’s Office, after all, had a “bar” in it. -
There’s an account on Instagram, kchbricks, who has a huge row of Creator townhouses in almost ever color LEGO has. As amazing as it would be to see the Modular townhouses in such a way, that would be quite expensive. I’ll take however many I can get from people.
-
I love it. I like the addition of two more Bookshop townhouses. I like the overall layout & placement. The square is nice too. A nice town for inspiration. I know I’ve seen your Instagram...

I assume you mean build it as is & have 16x32 of display space in front. That’s a pretty cool idea. I think it’ll look really good. It’s like the ultimate backdrop.

You have to be a VIP member, as it’s an early release. That must be it. It’s even front-paged on S@H.
