  1. I guess nobody was interested in seeing the two Destiny's Bounty sets side by side then given the topic immediately changed afterwards (for what it's worth, the temple might or might not be from the show, might or might not be ghost themed, all I know is that if it has a dragon, I will have to buy it ) But anyway: I have another question, which has really been driving me nuts while building these sets (no doubt it'll probably be explained in the TV show though, then again I don't watch it so I wouldn't know anyway): why on earth are some of the Skreemers seemingly armed with ordinary food items? It's kind of funny looking at them on the box art going into battle armed with sausages, ice creams, turkey drumsticks and bananas, it's really quite hard for me to take them seriously
  2. Keep calm and listen to Muse while MOC'ing

  3. Finally, much later than promised, and no doubt I'm late to the table here, but I've got up a comparison picture of the two Destiny's Bounty sets. I was surprised at how similar the size was despite twice the piece count and £40 higher price point of the new version (though we all know that's because there is also a dragon and more minifigs in the new verision!). Click the pictuure to access the original resolution picture.
  4. Right connection but wrong piece unfortunately. It's actually this (the fact that the piece curves up as well as a down is a dead giveaway) Also, the slope you describe that's on the gun, I'm pretty sure it's this piece and not the curved slope you suggested I will admit that I'm not sure if it' a 1x1 or 1x2 plate there, but given the ball joint collides with a 1x2 plate and results in an unstable connection, I'm inclined to think it's the 1x1 plate. Maybe I'll try reverse-engineering the model in LDD.
  5. The armour on the back of the Stormie's legs looks like this piece to me (probably with a 1x2 plate and held in place by 2 Technic 1/2 pins). Interesting how LEGO seem to be incorporating quite a few more System elements into these new Constraction sets (and not just bits like robot arms and bar clips that work in all systems), it's not something they do all that often. It shows that System elements can be used effectively in a Constraction model.
  6. I think that being "part limited" is a very normal aspect of MOC'ing. I MOC primarily in Constraction (Bionicle and stuff like that), and when I do hit a part limitation (which happens often despite me keeping a stock of 4000+ loose Technic and Constraction pieces for MOC'ing with), it hits very hard as the stuff I usually need is less readily available in the quantities I often need on BL than System or Technic parts, and direct from LEGO is often far too expensive in comparison. So sometimes it can take me weeks, even months to finish off one MOC as I often have to source parts from other countries. And it's definitely not helped by my sheer reluctance to take MOC's I am really satisfied with apart. Sometimes I might pinch a piece from my collection of built sets if it's only one particular piece I need to finish something. But when I MOC with System, I often plan my model in LDD first then order the parts I need, so part limitations rarely hit with those MOC's unless I forget to order a particular piece (which happens a lot!) or some other incident happens where parts are missing from orders (as it has with a current System MOC I have that really should have been finished over 3 weeks ago!).
  7. Psychologically
  8. Ah, well I don't watch the cartoon (I just play the classic Angry Birds games) so I wouldn't have known that, that makes sense why they're not there though But yes, if LEGO does things based on the app or cartoon, then I see a CMF style series being more likely (as I said, I find it hard to imagine a full wave of sets since, well, there's not too much to it! No real iconic locations so to say and I don't think a set with just a slingshot would work), these could contain a bird or pig and a few "blocks" of wood, glass or stone, and maybe have a Minecraft Crafting Box type set, like a starter pack if you will. Sure, LEGO have never really done this type of release but I think that would be best for the theme. I maintain though that if the sets are based on the movie (which I think is more likely given there will be scenes in that movie to base proper sets on), we almost certainly will get minifigures of the movie form birds
  9. I had a thought about this new set actually, though this is probably very very unlikely: what if it has an OT Stormtrooper head mould as well so you had a choice of whether to make it an OT or Ep 7 Stormie? Otherwise, I do see these new sets being mostly Ep 7 based. I'd be surprised if there isn't a Vader-esque Kylo Ren CCBS figure in the works somewhere. I'd like to see some droids in the lineup too, even just Threepio and Artoo would do nicely. Time to start saving for next year too it seems!
  10. I simply forgot about Stella, but that's probably because I have a certain frustration with that app refusing to work properly on my 4th gen iPod Other birds that could be present in a CMF series (that official list, believe it or not, is incomplete, but whether that's because they have been discontinued I don't know) include Hal (Boomerang Bird), and maybe the Mighty Eagle (in fact, I can see ME being a set on it's own, not as a CMF). I can see Bubbles having two variants alone, one uninflated and one inflated. Unless LEGO makes the first inflatable LEGO piece of course, but that's unlikely. And I knew Foreman Pig simply as "Mustache Pig", so guess I learnt something today
  11. It's probably extremely unlikely given LEGO probably don't have the license to make dinosaur figures on their own, but if LEGO did do Jurassic World dinosaur ultrabuilds (or even just CCBS dinosaurs), I'd probably keel over with absolute delight, then start being really picky about how inaccurate they would probably be (I studied palaeontology at university). Fingers crossed for CCBS dinosaurs
  12. Well, I already posted about this in the 2015 thread about the new figure, but I'll post it here and redact my other comment: Well, that was unexpected. Looks like whoever said there would be another 6 constraction figures was right! And it appears they tie in with Episode 7 (that is clearly an Episode 7 Stormie to me). And nice to see we get a new blaster mould (and a blaster that actually fires at that, look closely and you'll see the spring loaded brick in there). Colour me hyped!
  13. *Moved comment to 2016 thread, please ignore*
  14. Personally, I don't mind that the builds are inaccurate to the movie, it's not something that really bothers me with a line like this (okay I haven't seen the movie yet either, it's not out until tomorrow where I am). I was in it for the dinosaurs all along (and as far as I can see, they're pretty accurate to the film, though I think I-Rex could do with being a bit spinier but okay, that's not easy to mould), but I ended up enjoying the builds for what they are anyhow, and I really like the gyrospheres. Overall, if you can swallow the inflated licensed prices, it's a great line
  15. Thanks! I guess you like cat MOC's then. I should mention I wiped the gold printing from the panther head because it would have looked odd given there's no gold anywhere else. Forgot to mention it in the main post! (slightly off topic: this whole subforum seems to be a ghost town today, where is everybody? )
  16. Interesting idea, and as for achieving 16 unique figures, well, variants are the way to go. You can have the classic birds, then have their variants as they appear in apps like Space or even Epic (the Angry Birds RPG). If they can even integrate Star Wars into the Angry Birds license, you could get 2 CMF series just out of the AB Star Wars games... they can make 16 new moulds for Simpsons CMF's so 16 new moulds for AB CMF's is not out of the question. And as for people saying this theme will lack minifigures, that might not necessarily be the case if they do movie centric sets, as the birds are given arms and legs and could theoretically be rendered as minifigs. See the last post I made
  17. Given this is plastered all over my signature, what I'm currently listening to is really no surprise... Muse - Dead Inside Muse - Psycho (warning, there's quite prominent swearing in this song if anybody cares about that...) Two awesome new songs by my favourite band. Their new album "Drones" did not disappoint me
  18. Oh how this topic has practically died... not surprising though given Chima's death. Well, at least I can call my collection complete now! I thought I'd put it out there that I don't expect the final 3 sets to be around for very long at all in Europe, based on the fact that I found both Bladvic's Rumble Bear and Mammoth's Frozen Stronghold in the Last Chance shop at Legoland Windsor on Monday. That's normally where retired sets get sold off at reduced prices and laid to rest. These have only been out for barely a month and they're already being clearanced - surely this has got to be a record of some sort? So if you want them, I'd get them now or regret it later I don't expect them to last until Christmas...
  19. Well, for me, as an avid Angry Birds player, my favourite app game (well, it's the ONLY app franchise I have ever been interested in) combined with my favourite hobby is great to see. My main concern will be the execution though. If it's based on the game(s), then the only playset I can imagine really working is something akin to Minecraft's Crafting Box, where you can make your own structures. And we'd probably get new moulds for each of the birds. If it's based on the movie, then while there'll be no problem getting content worthy of sets, we're going to get actual minifigures of the birds, which look like this in the movie (sorry if this might be a little oversized): There's only one emoticon for Angry Birds minifigures: I'm hoping LEGO does sets based on the app game, but we'll probably end up seeing both... Interestingly, the main Angry Birds fan website were a little late posting the announcement, but I'll leave it here for those curious of what people who are all fans of Angry Birds think. Be warned: as with all non-LEGO sites talking about LEGO, it uses "Legos" a lot EDIT: The filter...
  20. Katryna and BOB (Big Okotoan Beast) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr So, after a whole month after the first WIP, this MOC is finally finished! Meet BOB, a bull-like Rahi creature with more strength and bulk than any other creature. BOB weighs over 1.8kg and comprises of close to 800 pieces, over 200 inside the CCBS frame to fill it out alone. BOB (Big Okotoan Beast) by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr BOB's rider is Katryna, a female panther anthropomorph from a distant land who tamed and befriended BOB, something the villagers of Okoto tried (and failed) to do. Katryna prowls Okoto, travelling wherever she thinks she's needed, whether it's helping a Toa recover their Golden Mask or assisting the Dark Hunters. She doesn't make friends and she doesn't take sides. One minute, Katryna is the Toa's greatest ally. The next, she could be their worst enemy. Katryna by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Full gallery can be found here. Comments, constructive criticism and the like appreciated. I had a lot of fun constructing Katryna, my first attempt at a clearly feminine figure (kinda inspired by Roodaka really), and BOB, while he took a month to construct (kept running out of shells) and was a real pain to construct, and was nearly destroyed along the way by my cat when he knocked over a big display onto it, I think he turned out really well Hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I did building it!
  21. Just out of curiosity, has anybody in the UK been able to find the Ant-Man set in a physical store yet? I know why I've been struggling to find it, even in the biggest LEGO Store in the UK (in LLW). I've seen the rest of the Marvel sets, just not the one I am actually interested in! I was just curious if it had been seen on shelves in the UK yet.
  22. You're probably right (I use axles with stop ridges at the wings, and would have used them on the legs but it would have made the hips ridiculously wide and unfaithful to the original set), I just can't help but think there may have been a more aesthetically pleasing and generally better option. As they were, the extra balljoints collided with the legs and severely limited their forward movement. I've shared another view of my modified dragon on Flickr showing it using it's wings as front legs, a la Smaug fashion, in case anybody was curious how it looked on all fours
  23. It's just a case of "it looked better on the box art" I think. But it's really easy to get rid of the additional ball joint, it actually got me wondering "why the heck did they even use that piece in the first place" . Pull the pieces with the balljoints out of the body, then get 2 black Technic balljoints, 4 black 1x3 thin liftarms, a 6M axle (though I used 2 of these, it does the same thing) and 2 axle pins and put them in the way I have them in the photo I posted earlier. It does not alter the limb positions and it removes the weird additional balljoints
  24. Nice, I definitely prefer this over some of TLG's official combiner models. I like how you pretty much made it "half and half", it's not something you see too often. The orange doesn't really match the rest of the mech but that's unavoidable (still undecided over whether the other colour the seat piece comes in, lime, would be better or not though!). As for your oversized pictures, to resize them you can use something like this to resize your pictures to 800x600 before uploading them to Brickshelf, that's pretty much the easiest way
  25. Thanks, I'll give it a try a bit later, I need to ring them up anyway to complain about another BnP order so may as well slip it in. Anyway, I started building Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty, and finished the dragon, which I generally like very much. But there was many aspects of the dragon I wasn't really a fan of, like the disproportionate wings, stubby legs and (worst of all) the hip connection with useless ball joints that got in the way of the legs. So I modified it to address a variety of issues, most of them to improve poseability (full list of mods are in the Flickr description): Ninjago 70738 Ghost Dragon mod by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr If anybody wants additional pics of the modified dragon in different poses, just ask. I will get some comparison pictures of the old and new Destiny's Bounty in the next day or two
