  1. Thanks, and hey, nice to meet yet another Muse fan! The head was the hardest part to build (it's essentially 90% of a Lowell Sphere, would have done it in CCBS like the rest of the MOC but I couldn't get the shape I wanted that way), the end result is pretty solid and doesn't fall apart when you go to pose it, but my goodness it was by far the most frustrating and fiddly thing I've designed that would always fall apart when I went to put a panel on And to think that this is actually my first MOC with proper human proportions (if you can ignore the feet of course)
  2. A new MOC from me! If anybody really knows me or has paid attention to my signature or avatar recently, they should know I'm stark raving bonkers about Muse (a British rock band), and their recent new album got me inspired to MOC some stuff based on the promotional artworks for the songs. One such artwork is that for Psycho: It's basically a human possessed by a mind virus carrying a baby, and I thought it would make a pretty cool Constraction figure. And here's my result: A full gallery with some alternate views, poses and close-up shots can be found in this Flickr album. Yes, the mottled effect in the artwork is exceptionally difficult to achieve, and probably would have been a lot better in military colours, but since there isn't a wide range of green and olive shells out there, I just dissassembled Jetran'Rex and used silver and gunmetal instead. Comments, praise, constructive criticism, questions and stuff relating to the MOC are welcome. I think there are other places where the song and band that inspired this can be discussed Enjoy!
  3. For those of you who find Grinder's gappiness a bit off-putting, maybe my modifications to Grinder will give some people ideas on how to remedy the gaps without altering the overall look of the set very much. The gap in the crotch (between the torso and the torso shell) on the original model was especially jarring to me personally. Okay, plug over
  4. I would be inclined to believe that this is the case. Last year, LEGO Stores in my country put out the new Star Wars sets nearly a month earlier than the release date, but didn't show up until that release date elsewhere. Pretty much the same story occurred with Elves in March this year (though only a couple of weeks early that time), and now Bionicle, amazingly over a month and a half before the official release date. My guess is that because LEGO's own stores rarely discount stuff, they have to find other ways of pulling the buying public in I suppose. That surprised me about Basher as well, but one that's also really simple to fix (use a Technic 1/2 pin). I can't really tell whether the wobbliness of the mechanism was deliberately put in by the designers to allow more freedom of movement (i.e. making the arms move at different times to each other), or just happened to be a coincidence and the designers intended for the arms to move in unison. I assumed the latter, but after reading your post Aanchir, I'm not so sure now! All in all, it really makes me intrigued to see some sort of designer video for the set to learn their true motives behind that mechanism, however unlikely that might be.
  5. Will these high quality scans of the two combos help? These are from the instruction manual and are likely the best pictures you'll see of them for a while 70791, 70792 and 70793 combo, 70794 and 70795 combo
  6. In case you didn't see my response to your question about Grinder's back spikes on Flickr Leewan: here's how Grinder's back spikes are attached Now for my final MOD: Skull Basher! This one probably received the most modifications, including replacing the set standard hands with a custom solution to add bulk (because I see Basher as a big bruiser type of warrior), added claws to his feet, improved the stability of the gearbox (the original set was quite floppy, believe it or not it can be stabilised with just one Technic 1/2 pin through the antenna), and for a bit of an artistic touch, added trans-purple chains onto the horns. And as a bonus: here's all my Skull posse together, including LOSS and my custom Skull Protector:
  7. Try the LEGO Store. If your nearest is Watford, you're definitely in luck as that's where I got them Anyway, appears there's no love for Warrior! Suppose I should show what I did to Grinder then: Not much to this one really, just filled in a few gaps here and there, added 2 more small gears to the arm holding the staff because there was way too little friction in the official setup and the arm kept sagging. Oh, and I swapped the leg bones around since I am obsessed with making fictional undead biomeechanical robots anatomically correct You'll notice that I took a leaf out of CHI Sir Fangar's book and gave him big spikes at the back. It's not much, but it really makes him feel more imposing. Ekimu in the background is not modified, he's just there because, well, he's Ekimu Basher will be uploaded tomorrow, he's the one I modded the heaviest.
  8. I would have done it but I've already modified all the sets! Maybe once I'm finished posting the modificatons online I'll have my modified sets don the corrupted masks if that will do for you. Someone else who has the sets is welcome to do it
  9. Here you go. It's on the side of the box.
  10. The official way the gears are set up on Slicer make three arms move in the same direction, which, while clever, I didn't really like the arms moving that way. So I changed the small gears for medium gears, and added small gears to the centre to provide the friction. Skull Slicer still has some trans-neon orange, I just removed it from the arm as it looked very out of place there on it's own, and I just didn't feel that it looked good on top of trans-bright green. Come to think of it, these are used to occupy the sticking out ball joints on Slicer, in hindsight I could have made those trans-neon orange... why did I not think of that earlier? Me omitting the trans-neon orange in the first place is probably because I'm not a big fan having more than one trans colour in a figure. Oh, and Warrior and Basher keeps trans-neon orange (they actually use more!). Speaking of Warrior, probably my favourite £13 set, I may as well post it now. The picture probably explains everything, though maybe I should have removed one of the leg shells first: Next up: Grinder. Probably the set I made the simplest mods to, but you'll see where some of Scorpio's legs went
  11. Time for Skull Slicer! For this, I gave him an extra sword, turned the chain weapon into a sort of energised handcuff (maybe implying he was a prisoner before death and resurrection in my headcanon?), added claws, got rid of the random trans-orange shell and added legs to the Skull Spider mask to reinforce the idea that the corpse was reanimated by a Skull Spider. I also changed the gears to a symmetrical setup, where as the lower arms swing up, the upper ones swing down and vice versa. Also, as a bonus, here's a picture teasing my next-to-be-posted mod. I just really like how this photo of it came out
  12. They don't actually, they pretty much stay where they are on mine. I think the relatively low friction between balljoint on the body and ball cup on the leg helps, there's enough there to keep the model from sagging, but not so much you yank the balljoint out while trying to pose a leg. Now, I did say I was going to post Slicer next, he's pretty much done except for the fact I cannot decide the best place for his chain hook weapon (which I want to keep), given that I've put a sword in the hand that used to hold it. Any ideas? I was thinking about having it attached to the head (I've already attached Skull Spider legs to the mask to reinforce the "resurrected by Skull Spider" look, so giving it a tail-like attachment wouldn't be out of the question), but I fear it would look silly.
  13. I mean the first one you linked, a Technic bush wouldn't work at all I will share it when I'm done with modifying Basher, unfortunately he might be the last one I share since I want to remake him with big bashing fists (whilst trying to keep the axes) and so far, nothing I've tried looks good enough to share
  14. Believe it or not, those were the least obtrusive solution I could come up with! Other solutions were really chunky and horrible. If you have a suggestion for a less obtrusive connection, I'd love to hear it I knew you meant all the bones, I was thinking of swapping the trans-neon green bones at first as those are the ones immediately visible. And you're right: there probably is too much neon green in there. I did have to dismember a display copy of PoS so I think I should give him his trans bones back at the very least Sure, pic of the underside is coming, I'll update this post when I upload it. It actually doesn't vary an awful lot from the original set, believe it or not, so it's a very easy modification to implement. EDIT: Here you go. Enjoy!
  15. Having just built Basher, it's an ingenious mechanism indeed but I found that it's construction was a little floppy and makes Basher hard to pose. So here's a tip: in the hole in the torso bone that the antenna goes through, put a Technic 1/2 pin in there and then insert the gearbox. The antenna connected to the push button goes in the 1/2 pin. You'll have to wear it in, but it loosens up pretty quickly and makes the unique gearbox far more stable and less likely to "misfire" when the button is pushed.
  16. Also interesting to note that, in the comics, when the Villains rip the masks off the Toa, the masks start losing their gold colour when the Villains get hold of them, hence explaining why the masks are a blend in the sets. Is it possible that the Villains are physically draining the energy out of the masks? An image of Tahu fighting Skull Grinder with Ekimu at the back of the manual would also explain why Tahu doesn't get a blended mask. Still doesn't explain why Gali doesn't get one though.
  17. I ultimately want to use bone-bones for the legs (it was my intention), but at the moment I have, erm, none spare, because I skipped a second Warrior in favour of another set at the store I was at I did try to articulate the original setup but the result just looked silly and almost as unposeable as the original. Nice take on Skull Scorpio by the way, reminds me of some of the LOSS revamps I've seen. Personally I prefer more animalistic animals (says the person whose last MOC was a human panther ), but I like yours very much, gives a very menacing and villainous vibe. Oh, and you reminded me that I wanted to use Beast heads for claws. Sadly, I used all my plain ones with axle holes for feet on another MOC so I guess I forgot! You'll need to show yours with Scorpio's actual mask at some point Leewan Next one I think I will do is Slicer, I've just built the set and I'll be honest, there's a lot left to be desired for me. That trans-neon orange shell wiill 100% be removed for starters
  18. I'm not Fatoran, but I've scanned the comics in the instructions for you and anyone else interested 70791, 70792, 70793, 70794, 70795 Also, if you fancy talking modifications of the Skull Villain sets, I've made a topic for it. It's here.
  19. I picked up the entire wave of the Bionicle Skull Villains today, as well as the Ant-Man set, from the LEGO Store in Watford. Very happy, and very friendly staff there too. I think I may just change which LEGO Store I go to regularly
  20. Well, seeing as the Skull Villains have already hit the shops where I live, I figured I'd start an alternate builds topic for the skull villains. Well, why not? The Toa and the Protectors already have their respective ones. So feel free to share your modifications (actual or planned) of the Skull Villains (that is, Grinder, Scorpio, Basher, Slicer, Warrior and Lord of Skull Spiders) here, and give feedback to others who have posted their builds. I'll start off by sharing a modification that I've already made to Skull Scorpio: 70794 Skull Scorpio MOD by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Basically I've changed the legs entirely, gave him poseable legs (I would have liked them to be silver, but I didn't have enough of the Kaiju fins in silver to do that. And I'll be changing the grey bones to the new "bone" bones, I need to get some more first though), removed all the trans-neon orange in the model (aside from the brain stalk) and filled out a couple of areas. Oh, and I gave him a pincer mouth since I felt like his head really didn't give off a scorpion-y motif. The mask can indeed still be knocked off by pushing the brain stalk. So, let me know what you think, and what set revamp you would like to see next from me, and I look forward to seeing what everyone else can come up with
  21. Well, I caved in and went to Watford, and came out with one of each new set! I was going to buy two copies of Warrior, but I then saw the Ant-Man set and decided to buy that over a second Warrior. For now though, I'm going to go and build them all and then do my planned modifications to them (the random trans-orange is definitely going!), then probably start a Skull Villain mods thread (well, why not? We have ones for Toa and Protectors).
  22. Nice! It appears the new armour is just in Titanium Metallic (some of it looked Flat Silver on the boxart but guess it turned out to be lighting). I'm not sure how I feel about it now, it sticks out very far as opposed to "cupping" around the bone like many other add-ons do. Now, hopefully on Monday I can get to buy these sets for myself, but in the meantime, I want to buy two of one of the £13 sets but having a tough time deciding which one to go for. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking Skull Warrior - lots of the new parts in useful colours there and it has my favourite of the Skull Masks... but Skull Slicer has the trans-bright green bones though... I can't decide! And alluding to the activity book, I'm rather sad to hear that the mask is just Ekimu's Protector mask. I'm really quite concerned that Gali's transparent mask is going to remain an exclusive that I'll never have and forever will my 2015 mask lineup look incomplete I swear, if the only time it reappears (if ever), it's as an SDCC exclusive...
  23. No Ant-Man in Watford? I heard they were in the other store I mentioned. Ah well I'll still go anyway, the temptation of new Bionicles is too much for me to resist (p.s. thanks! I'm on a bit of a Muse kick hence the Psycho avatar. In fact I'm also MOC'ing it and some of the new Skull Villain bits would work great for it )
  24. What!? These are already out! I literally live 15 miles from the Watford LEGO Store, I think I'm going to have to find an excuse to pay them a visit tomorrow. I've been wanting to go find the Ant-Man set so this gives me the perfect excuse to go. How many did they have left if you don't mind me asking? I wonder if these are also out in the Westfield Shepherd's Bush LEGO Store?
  25. Going off some constructive criticism I received on other sites for this MOC, does anybody have any thoughts on whether to incorporate more colour into BOB (and what colour I should go for if Metru Red doesn't work for you), or how to add more Metru blue into Katryna (i.e. what Metru Blue Bionicle pieces might work well with CCBS)? I'm not sure why I even post MOC's here anymore as people seem very disinterested in most MOC's in general here nowadays
