  1. Thank you for making this. It's fantastic so far!
  2. I know a lot of folks here seem to prefer brick-built... but i would much rather have the molded fell beast from the video game. I think that is unlikely since they supposedly won't make new molds for ideas sets.
  3. Brilliant! I've never seen such varied and clever uses of rakes. A superb MOC.
  4. I bought all the sets on Sunday at my local store... (Surrounded by Marvel fans). I love the new figs. I don't understand all the hate on the white epaulets. They look great to me. I thought the 2009 redcoat/blue epaulet combo clashed. I love that you get 10 of each faction. equality! They've made some improvements to various ship parts that i really like. (my last pirates purchase was in the early 90's) My only gripes: -the captain can't fit in his quarters on the ship unless he is sitting or you take the feather out of his cap. -the big 2009 shark was cooler -the bluecoats need a better base (like El Dorado) - hopefully that or their own galleon will be a future release. -I miss the old rope bridge piece and the old palm tree.
  5. I own both sets and I would pick Lonely Mountain hands down. There is a vast difference in size of both the builds and the dragons. Smaug is just incredibly well done and when compared side-by-side, he is much longer, more articulated and just better than the other dragon. And the dragon mountain set is little more than a tower really, the Lonely Mountain build is much more impressive. But maybe I'm not in my right mind I guess. I can see the argument BrickJagger makes though about the competition between the two sets. Most parents (if they're anything like mine were) probably wouldn't get a set like Lonely Mtn for their kids even if there wasn't another dragon-related set to blame it on.
  6. Salt Lake City Lego store is the same. The hobbit sets have been jammed in the back corner away from the cool stuff ever since they came out, alongside a stack of Orthancs. Lego has done very little to promote the 3rd wave.
  7. I agree with Strongbad. Move swiftly or the price will be worse. I wouldn't wait for it to lower. As for bricklink vs getting the whole set... I HAD to get the set (I own them all) but if you really just want the dragon then go the bricklink route. $50 isn't that terrible vs the price of the whole set. (If the build, the minifigures or the exclusive bricks are not interesting to you.)
  8. Totally... I can see it now... a massive brick-built Old Man Willow with Merry and Pippin and their ent-draughts. (but no Treebeard, just some unnamed ent)
  9. I always found the raised plates to be a little cheesy. Even as a kid I didn't like them and preferred the look of my Black Falcon's Fortress. I prefer no base plate on my castles. I think they can be limiting.
  10. I disagree with nearly every assertion you have made Bobbtom. The only thing I can agree with there is that I would also gladly buy more.
  11. Brilliant!
  12. Out of all the disappointments this year regarding Lego Hobbit, this Bain rehash is the worst. Why even bother? I think the only thing that could have been more insulting is if they had just given us that gold Legolas Greenleaf again.
  13. LOVE IT! Cheers!
  14. This is a fantastic build. Instantly recognizable from the film. Cheers!
  15. The regulars don't represent the actual statistics of the fanbase. There are a number of lurkers. I have lurked here since the first wave of LOTR sets and only started posting recently. and I see now there are 3 guests reading this topic at this moment and only 1 member (me).
  16. I wouldn't let my kids play with it unsupervised. I do think a 7 year old playing with it gently would be no problem. Or always playing at a table or sitting rather than flying it around the house like a 7 year old me would've been wont to do.
  17. Wonderfully done!!
  18. Yes, the rubbery part of the wings is very sturdy. The only section of the wings I'm worried about is the thin connection to the ball-joint. I winced when I had to pop the wings back off to box Mr. Smaug for my move. I think that barring any accidental drops to the ground though he should stand the test of time.
  19. I've read so much bashing on this 3rd Hobbit wave here and partially felt some of the same disappointment... UNTIL this weekend. I went to the Lego Store and picked up all 4 sets and built them all. I'm really pleased with them. I think reading so many negative things really lowered my expectations or something but as I built them I realized these are awesome sets. I think Lego Smaug is the coolest toy I have ever owned. I think the sets all do a good job of striking a balance between KFOL playability, AFOL appeal and faithfulness to the ever-changing source material. The only real flaw here is the lack of an un-named dwarf soldier. I am supremely satisfied with completeness of the Hobbit line. (Would that I could say the same for the LOTR line being complete). I've scoured stores in the Salt Lake City area. Seeing the same thing, two small sets at the Targets. Nothing in Walmart/Kmart/Shopko/etc. I only checked one TRU which doesn't have ANY of the new sets out. The Lego Store was the best option for picking up all 4 here.
  20. Fantastic design! Very well done! I especially like the river.
  21. Love it!!!! Creative use of the flower elements and that's a pretty good custom Bombadil as well. This is my favorite recent Middle Earth MOC. I love that section of Fellowship.
  22. Nice! I'd like to see this build IRL and standing near the other two sets.
  23. wow. that's a nice long wait. wouldn't it be more advantageous for them to release it concurrently with the film? I think I'm screwed as a Nintendo owner of the game because they didn't offer the previous DLC content. Also, this reminds me of a little more "on-topic" question... what are the odds on getting any more video game promo minifigs this time? Slim to none?
  24. Or do what I did, and obtain a second pair of regular legs in the appropriate color for each dwarf for sitting purposes only. :)
