That's a sweet ride, it has great shaping and I like the printed tiles for sponsors. Any chance we can get a few more angles of it?

Looking forward to seeing your take on a CFS building LT, will there be a truck or two to go with it? Can I suggest that the police get a building as well, I can imagine them making use of a small house somewhere along the street with just a single sign out the front. Always great to see the little updates and scenes that you throw together in the mean time though.

That's a great concept Greg, NPU on the T pieces and round plates with holes to make the rotors. I think this could be a basis for a lot of variants in the future.

I may get a couple of the small divers sets to stock up on figs in wetsuits and some of the sea life but that boat is completely out of proportion in every way. The new Town Square looks like a great starting point for mods and if it has a LEGO Store employee fig I'll be stoked. The only thing I'll be changing from the get go will be the colours of the light rail and parting out the helicopter.

Thanks LT, I can't see myself building too many things in the brick for the next couple of months due to moving house. I'll keep the renders coming though and once I'm settled in I'll play catch-ups. It hadn't occurred to me before but you're right about James being first, maybe he found the start line by accident?

Hi all, after an extended break from designing and building that went too far into the New Year, I'm back with some more additions to City vehicles. The inspiration for these two came from an episode of Top Gear in season fifteen where the team has to buy everyday second hand saloon cars that can also be used on track days. On the left is James May's selection, a Mercedes-Benz 190, with Richard Hammond pleased with his BMW M3 on the right, and since Jeremy Clarkson was the last to arrive for the start of the challenge it's only fitting that his Ford is still a WIP and not ready to show yet. The two cars are built up on the same basic frame which is slightly smaller than the modern 4 wide cars in LEGO sets and my other MOCs, so they should fit in with most peoples collections. The lower profile of the cars compared to my usual work forced me to improvise a bit for the floor panel (which is a panel piece) and the steering wheel design was taken from the Mini Cooper polybag since there are no studs in the front of the cabin. Minifigs can sit in the cars, although they have to be reclined to fit in, and it may be possible to squeeze them in with hair or hats on if you recline them further. The .lxf's for these two are on my brickshelf page for all but they are missing a technic pin with stud under the 2x2 tiles on the bonnet (LDD didn't like it). There'll be more to come soon, including Jezza's Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth, so keep an eye out.

What environment should LEGO City Police patrol next?
Criga88 replied to legoman19892's topic in LEGO Town
I'd say a dedicated water police branch would be pretty cool, but I'd be happy if the City line went back to focusing on a City. I don't see the appeal of the swamp or forrest lines, or their limited run, but that's just my personal opinion. -
Threw these two together this arvo to complement my lonely ambulance, with both vehicles used as Rapid Response Vehicles. The bike is almost identical to LEGO sets and my police bikes, while the wagon is based on a Subaru Forrester. Nothing notable for either of them but they do still fill there purpose of filler.

Looks like you have plenty of reference material for whichever direction you decide to take NM

Thanks LT, I'll be building a couple of support vehicles tomorrow as well (after all of my chores are done )

Thanks Bitbang. I'll let everyone come to their own conclusions about why he's smiling

I'd say a small series of buildings would look more homely in NM, it's always seemed like a smaller town with no need for large buildings. All the best for the little that remains of 2014 and into 2015 though.

Over the weekend I churned through most of the small parts that I ordered recently to build the Sprinter ambulance, and wow does it take a lot of 1x1's to make a checkered pattern! Not much has changed from the LDD design, although the bonnet is loosely held in place thanks to a maze of connections up front. Since I now have something physical to work with I can work on a sturdy connection between the two ends which have a tendency to split without a fig holding them in place, the 'sliding' door could also use a bit of a tune up too.

That's a great little boat, I particularly like how the details on the bow and stern are done.

If anyone wants the codes from the following S12 figs feel free to PM me: Wizard Piggy Guy Dino Tracker Genie Girl Pizza Delivery Man Swashbuckler Video Game Guy Lifeguard

I really like the look of your latest car, to me it resembles a Corvette with the large bonnet and curves over the fenders. I get the holes on the slopes whenever I do my renders too, it's easy enough to fix in photoshop though.
-
Thanks Gabor, that windscreen is the only solution I know for 5 wide so it'll be getting used a lot more for my larger vehicles. I still have to find a way to connect the bonnet so it doesn't pop off at the slightest bump, which I meant to do this weekend, but I had a few other projects on my plate.
-
Thanks LEGO Train 12 Volts, the Sprinter van still needs a fair bit of work on the inside to hold the bonnet in place properly. It's one of the models I'm trying to improve while I have access to my brick collection.
-
Thanks CrazyDalton777, it's good to have a generic base model to speed up the process though. I think that most sedans these days look fairly similar so it comes down to the front grille or rear fender to distinguish each model. The .LXF for the XR8 is up on my brickshelf page for those who want it, if you have the blue car from the Auto Transporter set it's only a quick mod too.

Thanks LT. Ahh the old scaling dilemma, while six wide would allow for more details and better proportions, but if I keep building in City scale then I can continue to buy City sets to fill my streets. These both still look normal on the back of the 60060 Auto Transporter or the 60017 Flatbed Truck, which I still have assembled, so it's only natural that it's the way I build. As for muscle cars, I think they'd be better off limited to five wide, with six wide reserved for trucks and supercars like the Ford GT and Bugatti Veyron, but that's just my opinion. I'm flicking through some motoring magazines today so there's probably going to be a fair few more vehicles added here over the weekend. Unfortunately my parts collection is mostly unusual parts left over or light bley so they'll mostly be renders, but I'm parting out old sets too so I may be able to throw something togethter. Keep an eye out for more to come.

That's an impressive building, everywhere I look I keep spotting completely different building techniques but they all come together for a unique style. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

My latest couple of cars will give the police a run for their money. They are the Craig Lowndes edition of the Holden Commodore SSV Redline in red of course, and on the other side of the fence, the FPV XR8 in blue. While there's nothing spectacular about these MOC's, I think the new wheels are going to make any future performance cars look so much better and I can't wait for a bit more variety when the Speed Champions line gets into full swing.

I was thinking the reindeer faces on the 1x1 bricks would be a good starting point, the body could then be either a simple brick build or a more complex assortment of droid arms and clips.
-
I used to build on my bed but as my collection grew I upgraded to a corner table. Plates and bricks go in the drawers on the table and other common parts go in the trays underneath which makes for pretty quick building.

A while ago I toyed with a simple design for city scaled vehicles, it can't hold much weight so it's only for very small loads but it does look the part on the back of some vehicles. Longer bricks and liftarms can be used for a more reach but with the current parts selection your options for something that telescopes are pretty limited. Hope the pic helps you Coghilla.
