Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Criga88 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for finding some interior pics LT. From these angles it seems way too cramped in there though, I'll definitely be extending the back wall to the edge of the baseplate. Is it just me or are the numerous cats a reference to Dirk Gently's holistic detective agency? -
That's a great looking modular Redyap, I think it'd fit right in beside the official sets. Can't wait to see more of your work

Thanks LT, I always try to build on a sturdy base so most of the van's pretty sturdy. Only the windscreen and top of the bonnet are barely connected so that'd be the weakest point but since it's built above a flat section it should be fine for moderate play. I'd usually test it as I was going but I'm on a bit of an extended period away from home so I'm stuck with just LDD for the time being.

An all too common sight around any city, the white van. It didn't take long to modify my Sprinter ambulance back to a base model and without any of the equipment in the back there's about 3x9x3 bricks worth of space opened up, with only a slight intrusion by the fender parts. This should allow for a bicycle to fit in even with the low roof, and an additional bricks height should allow a dirtbike or the old style bike to squeeze in. All that's left now is to try and squeeze a steering wheel in the cab. Comments and criticisms are welcome, and if you want to make your own versions I've put the .LXF file up on my brickshelf account.

Thanks Emilstorm, while the front end looks the part, it'll get a slight reworking when I get back to building in December. The stretcher is the same one that goes in the back of the BK-117 heli I posted a while back, no sense making a new one.

That's an impressive start on the exterior Jonwil. I'm looking forward to seeing how you fill the interior.

I say go for it LT, our minifigs deserve a decent healthcare service

Funnily enough LT, I'm toying around with a Subaru Forester as a rapid response vehicle right now. I think I have an unmarked white motorcycle at home too so that will be going to the ambo's when I get a good printer to do the markings. As for rescue trucks, that's mostly handled by Fire and Rescue so I'll be updating my old fire trucks when I get a chance, although I'm moving interstate early next year so the less physical models I have lying around the easier it'll be.

Thanks Zblj and LT. It is based off the NSW ambo livery, I tend to get most of my inspiration from NSW even though I haven't lived there for a few years.

Hi all, since my police force has substantial numbers now, it's about time to focus on the other emergency services for a while. First cab off the rank is a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter based ambulance. I think the 4431 set was based on a Sprinter as well, but given that it's the size of a truck, it doesn't really fit in with anything else. The MOC ended up being 5 wide and 16 long to give it the correct looking proportions. This still allows for a driver up front, a passenger or another paramedic sitting in the back and a patient on the stretcher. The exterior of the MOC won't be changing as this is about as close as I can get it, but under the bonnet there's a bit of space left free for clips and odd connections that LDD just wouldn't allow. Trying to attach the windscreen was giving me issues as well so when I get to building I'll attach that with some clips. There's a breakdown of the sliding door on my flickr stream, but since the MOC's only 5 wide, it can only work on one side. Naturally, I opted for the safe side (kerb side). The large double doors on the back allow for a small stretcher to slide in and the fender piece holds it in place. The middle section of the roof is also easily removed for a bit off added access. As always, let me know what you think, and keep an eye out for updates.

I voted no, I believe the City theme should be about everyday city life. I'd be more than happy to see a drop in police/criminal and fire sets to have an increase in normal vehicles and scenes for a bit of variety.

I'm liking the new roof, it looks like it fits in with the rest of the street better than the previous version. The two grilles to break up the walls are a nice touch, looking forward to more

Since setting up my new workspace I've been sorting and re-organizing my parts collection every couple of days. I still throw together a few MOCs in between, and since I know where every single part of mine is they take no time at all, but I see what you're getting at. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to sort my collection again

I haven't bought any of the Architecture line in a while, but the flatiron is intriguing to me. I'd definitely buy multiples as I have a couple of MOCs on the cards that use the bow plates in tan.

Wow, that looks great, and for a 'simple' building you packed in a lot of fine details. I think the windows are perfect but I can see how sourcing the older types to make them could be a bit of an issue if you're going to make a street full of these. Looking forward to seeing more of these pop up.

The small tow truck looks great and I'll have to get a couple of snow plows to modify to other unimog models. I like the designs in the demolition sets, maybe LEGO wants us to clear room for more buildings? The rest of the sets aren't really that appealing to me though, my police force and fire brigade have enough equipment and people as-is.

Hi all, just a quick update on getting all of my rendered police vehicles built. There's been a couple of good sales on at local stores so I picked up a few sets for parts and some bricklink orders arrived so the past few days have been spent finishing my WIPs. First up are the updated versions of the 7236 cars, the one on the left is an attempt at a Ford Falcon and on the right is a Holden Commodore. They both need some stickers on the grilles to finish the look but I'll get to that when I buy a good printer. I have one other 7236 at about 90% complete but I ran out of the bonnet pieces so I may have to hit up the local sales again. The Highway Patrol branch of my police force currently consists of these three cars, the red Commodore and Mustang are used for pursuit while the green Commodore is for undercover work. The motorcycle branch has a slight mod of the standard police bikes released over the past couple of years to make them look more like the Aussie bikes. The inspiration for the dirtbike came a couple of weeks ago when I saw a bloke get pulled over outside my place by one, makes sense too considering the amount of criminals on dirtbikes in the recent city sets. The first two in this pic should be familiar, the Hilux paddy wagon and K9 unit, but the third is a new addition based on a Nissan Patrol. The Patrol can seat two minifigs and will be used with the dirtbike for off-road policing duties. There's also another paddy wagon in the works but I need a few more parts to complete it. Another familiar face, the LAPD AS350 helicopter, has now been joined by a NYPD inspired Bell 412. The 412 still requires a few parts in different colours for the rotor mast and tail, the cabin doors are left out because I need to source some blue window pieces but they're not really a priority. And last but not least is the newest branch of my police force, the "Public Order, Riot and Tactical Assault Squad" (PORTAS), with their Nissan Patrol to handle population control and anti-terrorist operations around the city. I don't have the parts to make a second one yet but it's on my to-do list, along with a Lenco Bearcat based vehicle that I've been toying with for a while now. Comments and criticisms are welcome, and if you want to make your own versions I've put the LDD files up on my brickshelf account.

I'm constantly updating most of my MOCs, especially my huey helicopters. That's the great thing about building with LEGO, you can go back and change designs when you see something new.

I have 2x Grand Emporium for a 5 story building, 2x Fire Brigade for a 3 story buiding and 1 each of the rest (except for Town Hall and Palace Cinema). I'm pretty happy with how my street looks for now so I've been slowly adding bits and pieces to the interiors of the buildings. I've run out of space to expand the street as well so more modulars are off the cards until next time I move.
