  1. Thank you! I'll definitely adjust my lighting rig, and I'll try and get some better technical pictures when I take the MOC apart. Ha ha, I did consider joining Kaliphlin for the tan, but Valyrio would be my best overall fit and Avalonia has some great national colors. Thanks for the credits and the positive feedback. Now I'll have to go find that other SNOT curve...

  4. It's official - my character is Lord Collis Greenplate, protector of the small Avalonian territory of Iremons along the Mitgardian border. "Linda, set patrols through the basements and the tunnels, and Dale, contact the carpenter's guildhall and see what the local chapter would require to hoard our castle. With the those sneaky wretches retaking so much of our country, we must be prepared for their forces to run upon us next." "Shall I double the guard as well, father?" Collis glanced at Linda. Although Collis treated her and Dale as his own son and daughter, he and his late wife had never been close... and the people of Iremons had noticed a certain resemblance between the twins and the castle's former steward. "Gods, no. The garrison already works long enough hours - two weary defenders are easier to take by surprise than one well-rested one. Instead, tell the guards to stay in pairs at all times and equip each one with a horn." "Do you think that, with enough preparation, we can make our castle impregnable?" Dale asked. After a moment of thought, the lord answered his steward as he continued the circuit of the curtain wall. "Son, the purpose of a castle is not to stop an enemy. This is a lesson that all those of noble birth should learn: Whatever its size, garrison or provisions, any fortress can fall to a host with enough power and determination." ~~~ More pics - I took them with a general idea that I could fit some plot to them, but now I don't want to force it. Dale was up to his task - after some haggling, the carpenters set to work on hoardings of Mitgardian lumber along the perimeter of Castle Iremons... all one-and-a-half miles of it. To make it easy for them, I included the notches in the masonry where they can insert the posts (based loosely on a real castle feature... although I have a strange mix of machicolations and traditional battlements here). The perimeter walls of Lord Greenplate's castle are built in a like manner to common retaining walls, rising dozens of feet from steep mountain sides and encircling the more gently-sloped area at the top. I came up with this feature because I realized that I didn't have the parts to build a wall of respectable height from base to battlements, so I decided to throw some landscaping up on top... which was not my smartest move, I'm afraid. In case you were wondering, that's how that tricky curve works. Finally, I would like to claim UoP credit for the following: Architecture - + Wall Technique - SNOTed tile stonework + Round Walls and Towers + Advanced SNOT (believe me, it was a pain to get it right) Military Science - + Fortifications
  5. I agree... but I also wonder what one does when one reaches the edge of the roof. It sounds like a worthy challenge.
  6. Looks good. It seems that I'll have no shortage of MOCs to build, after all.
  7. Choosing land... How about a small territory on the eastern border of Ferinwald? I saw a mountain range along the border with Mitgardia in another map, and that's what I'm interested in. One more question - since Challenge II is still in its prologue stage, does that mean that freebuilds are the only option? Thanks for the warm welcome - I'm sorry that we're soon going to be at war with each other.
  8. Pirates and castle go together in the fantasy role-playing game on MOCpages... but it's not quite as advanced a world as the GoH, so that might come into play. It could still be done if enough people were really interested, though. Please pardon me while I change the subject yet again. I would like to join Avalonia (if you'll have me), and this is the character I intend to use: I don't have a name for him yet, and that horse is not likely to show up very often, but I have some builds underway and I'm ready to jump in.
  9. I think that black round plates would have looked better as the bear's eyes. The rest of the display is great, though, especially given the scale. Is... was... that your largest yet?
  10. This has great details everywhere, but the chocolate ice cream takes the cake. The color scheme and the shaping gives it a vibe that I've never seen in Lego before.
  11. I almost didn't look at this because there are so many Batmobiles driving around, but this was worth it. I haven't seen the game version, but this looks awesome.
  12. My favorite part has to be the chew something took out of the corner.
  13. Um... I'm no expert on Albion, but this looks like two towers set into a curtain wall to me. It's a mighty curtain wall, but a curtain wall nonetheless. As for the texturing, I like the style. Your clean-cut builds stand out from the crumbly majority amongst the work of expert castle builders. Some might see a lot of masonry bricks, but after a closer look the brilliant details pop out, like those hinge bricks in the corners of the towers adding those subtle quarter-cylinders to the texture. Most people don't use something like that in their castles, and those angle bricks that alternate with the hinges can kill the appearance of their builds. Mixing the layout up with a bunch of 1x2 SNOT tiles and crumbly bits would have killed the look.
  14. Some of the hard lines and straight angles in this manor make me think of a modern architect's twist on Gothic, but that does not ruin the build in any way. On second thought, it also has some elements of Rennaissance homes, partly because of the decorative crenels. Whatever the style, it's an inventive MOC with several techniques I've never seen before.
  15. Entry 1: 3 points Entry 3: 2 points Entry 5: 1 point
  16. I have a feeling that we're going to see many more Mixels eyes in the future. I didn't think they would work that well in serious building, but you did a great job with all of the animals.
  17. ¡Bienvenido! It seems that at least one of us will know what to do when the world wide web is destroyed by caterpillars.
  18. Good luck in your quest. I'd have started by saying "Welcome to Eurobricks" first, but I'm still new to the site, too. I'll settle for saying, "Welcome back to adults' favorite children's toy!"
  19. A little about me - I'm a young AFOL, my favorite pastimes are Lego building and constructing falsehoods (whether writing or playing tricks), I love castles and I'm ready to go beyond simply watching the excellent builders here and start joining in the fun. To share a little more about myself, I've chosen some of the pictures that best display my tastes and building style (or lack thereof...). More details are available here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/382467 image by Gilbert Despathens, on Flickr This is my icon (or it would be if the system wasn't fighting back): Gilbert Despathens, a one-eyed vagabond in a pith hat. This might be a good time to mention that I use a pseudonym for my Lego building. Until next time, keep building!
