  1. Thanks gentlemen! You smell that? Ash, blood, fire? Smells like... victory.
  2. Sweet build! I especially like your technique for the chain gang, and the landscaping. Look forward to seeing more!
  3. Clever idea David, that's a neat looking mill stone! The snow looks awesome but as mentioned above hiding some of those studs would definitely give it a smoother look. Other than that, great job sir for your first MOC! Just make sure you bring more than just a stick if you happen to enter Nocturnus however. We eat wolves for brunch, usually with a slice of cantaloupe.
  4. For two miserable years, yes I did, until I realized I'd end up frozen to death or become an alcoholic like many of the natives seemed to be (Nodaks really like their hard liquor, it seems). And Boo? Hell, I went back when it was still the Fighting Sioux and we were like the top lacrosse team in the nation... I can't believe they changed the name. You know, there is a high school in Oklahoma just 30 miles down the road from me, the team's called Broken Bow Savages and the school is hailed for its cultural sensitivity...
  5. Damn, eight feet long? I imagine this will be pretty sweet. Yeah, sorry, pretty tactless on my part to live in a part of the country where winter is only three - not eight - months long. Seriously though, I used to live in East Grand Forks on the west side of Minnesota, I know a little about those "brisk" -30 degree days. They certainly build character!
  6. Sweet build, you got a lot of detail here and some pretty landscaping, especially that tree. Some great photography too. I really like the design you used for the tower guardrail, very elegant. Great work!
  7. Yes I've been much anticipating some pics. Maybe some in the snow since it's still winter up there?
  8. Wow, thanks everyone for the awesome comments! Thanks! Those neon orange round plates have their purpose, eh? :P Thanks a lot Gabe, I'm glad you noticed the twisted look I tried to give the rock! :D Not enough! Haha, thanks! Despite these dark builds, I assure you I'm a happy person in real life! :P Thanks! It's definitely not the best part of the build but there is a gate in the wooden structure. It was much larger initially but it just didn't look right since there was nothing built behind it (because this had size limitations). It just left a white hole when I took some pics and some black cardboard behind the build didn't look right either. So, I rebuilt a much smaller door that in the pics is supposed to look half closed and help hide the fact that there's nothing behind the palisade.
  9. Absolutely stunning! This is one of the most impressive castle MOCs I've ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on, and it's not even done...
  10. Alrighty, got the second Warlords up now: Battle at Hell's Gate I know LV is working on his second, anyone else got something planned for this challenge?
  11. Haha, I couldn't get the bars to stay flush with each other so I attached a couple of soldiers to the pump handle and they do the job perfectly. Unfortunately I realized I didn't have any of the flames with the pins on them (I guess these are old school flames?) but still looks really cool. I'd like to build a little scene with one or two of these guys, I'll definitely send you a pic when I do!
  12. Wonderful background, fig and MOC! Really fits well with the style. I'm really tempted into trying the secret entrance thing in one of my next builds. Awesome idea!
  13. Greetings! Here is my second build for the Warlords of Nocturnus challenge, which had to be built on more than a 32x32 baseplate. This scene captures one of many victories during the Black Spire's campaign to extinguish the Nocturnian rebels and consolidate power over the entire dark lands. Anfauglir was tasked with leading his forces into the Rakarth mountains and rooting out any factions unwilling to pledge their allegiance to Lord Raavage. He and his forces subdued one tribe after another until finally discovering a powerful and numerous group of orcs, goblins and trolls fortified in the deepest reaches of the Rakarths. For days Anfauglir and his undead knights fought with the ceaseless horde until finally driving it, and its leaders, to the very heart of the mountains. There the orcs were finally defeated in one last push by Anfauglir's men, where they were driven into the fiery depths of Nocturnus itself. This victory, known forever as the Battle at Hell's Gate, solidified the respect of Lord Anfauglir among his troops and servants. Anfauglir allows the orc leader to see the error of his ways: Hope you guys enjoy!
  14. Another nice piece Garmadon! I really like the firing mechanism part of the build, looks very functional!
  15. Very mean looking field piece! What a cool design, great job Garmadon!
  16. Wonderful design Gideon! I built one of these last night, very awesome looking!
  17. Awesome gate, very nicely done! The snow effect is great and contrasts nicely with the pallisade structure. The shields add some good color. The frozen water looks great too, though I wonder if some trans-dark-blue plates under the light blue tiles would have given the water a deeper look yet still frozen on top.
  18. Nice border and wave design. Cool little ship too!
  19. Is it too late to get in on this great challenge? If there's still an option left, I'd like to go with DG's side.
  20. I haven't been here long myself but I think you'll find a very supportive and constructive crew around here. I've only shared a couple of MOCs since joining but I feel like they were a couple of the best I've ever done. I guess building in support of your guild and the others who make it up really strives one to push the limit of their building skills. That, and getting to see some of the best historical MOCs out there has a way of inspiring greatness in others! As much as I enjoy sharing my builds here, it is the chance to view the phenomenal work of others that has got me addicted to this forum!
  21. Awesome build SK! Wonderful and powerful trebuchet! Your skills are certainly obvious with the detail you put in this scene, and the quintessentially "official Lego set" look it has! Can't wait to see more!
  22. I hope this is the hardest thing I have to do all day, 'cause this ain't easy: Hersir of Archers: Wat Tambor Hersir of Infantry: Gunman Hersir of Cavalry: Garmadon Great stuff all around though!
  23. Stellar scene and photography Gideon! I love your castle wall design, very detailed yet elegant. And what can I say about the house besides, can I have it? The smoke and the gables in particular are phenomenal. Excellent!
  24. Thanks again everyone, you guys are great! I appreciate your comments Gideon, I'm glad to know I'm on the right track. I've been building castles and medieval scenes and forests for so long I thought I'd have some trouble adopting the darker overtones when building for Nocturnus. And now, I have to say, if I had the skills to photoshop something like that I would be telling EVERYONE! That would take some wizard-level skills I'm sure. Me? I'll have to stick to the real stuff for now. I also want to give a shout out to my boy Ecc, who frontpaged this ship and, against all odds, had an incredibly clever comment to go with it!
  25. Incredible MW, thank you so much for sharing this! I too have walked part of Hadrian's Wall and now I feel like I've seen it at its prime! You've done an incredible job recreating the construction and eventual destruction of this milecastle. I have to say the construction MOC is in particular very striking, considering the beautiful scaffolding and the amazing way you recreated the construction process (with a couple of nobles sitting idly by watching the work over a glass of wine ). You did a wonderful job with the finished product, the buildings are incredibly realistic looking. Your castle design is simple but very elegant looking. The stone walkway is just plain gorgeous too! Wow, I could go on and on about this one. Absolutely perfect! I hope this gets all the recognition it deserves!
