He was? Heh... it's kind of funny that they used the same names system - Broadside and Woodhouse, not trying to make the otherone sound somewhat french, spanis, this way it look like there were two british-originated military factions fighting for the same area was it actually ever said why they had two military factions in Pirates? some story background? - were they ever officialy named enemies or something?

Good for you, good for us Welcome to Eurobricks

I know that... it was just a joke my friend, just a joke I never really cared about those names, to me Ironhook and Redberd were the same person, only in a different outfit... baa... being a kid I never saw a difference between Soldiers and Imperials - to me they were same old soldiers, only in different uniforms If I can recall it correctly Imperials "boss" was even named "Governor Broadside", right?

Unfortunately those offical documents are considered Top Secret right now and they will be declassified after 70 years...

Ideas for changing the 9474 Battle of the Helms Deep
Mazin replied to Brickington's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well it basically depends on what kind of other materials do you have... there's not much to take out of this set... definitelly not the minifigures Or perhaps it could serve as a huge vault for hidden treasure Then Urukhais ( or whatever their names was ) could serve as some kind of creatures protecting it from the greedy ones... -
Heh... I have a feeling one more day and "Pimp" will become official

Hi there Chri5kng. Yeah I guess those are dilemmas and sacrifices we all had to make... nothing is as perfect as we would like to be, but the good thing is that it alltogether gives us a lot of lessons and determination There's pelenty of people who wish they would buy/start their Lego adventure earlier, me among them. A new term "Dark Age" is clearly understandable by everyone here at some point to... And I do agree that a lot of things changed for better or worse. That's what happens with every company and product. Luckily Lego still has a lot to offer and continues it's tradition of one of the friendliest approaches to it's clients that I know. So everything we wish can possibly happen Anyway... Welcome to Eurobricks

Ideas for changing the 9474 Battle of the Helms Deep
Mazin replied to Brickington's topic in LEGO Pirates
Wow.. that's the expensive one I guess You didn't buy it just to turn it into Pirates? Well, there's definitely a lot of bricks... but not much that could inspire... I'd say that this tower is an obvious material to create a nice lighthouse.. As for your walls... these could be turned into some kind of a fort... -
Agreed. Definitely Redbeard, the one and only. Great gdandpa, uncle, father and husband... and one hell of a pirate Ironhook was overdesigned already, Brickbeard looks like a pimp with these shiny all of things. And what kind of skull is that?
-
Wow. Very nice job. I like those ships two... this one could serve as a good inspiration for an official set Simple, yet a lot of action, that's what I like the best
-
Wow! This means that this would be banned now too? I guess ships would... but what about those two funny fellows - they're mascots, not toys, right?Seriously they're making idiots of us... I didn't mean that I am after the free market, there's never been such a thing in the history, as there were and always will be some regulations of the "free market"... I am just surprised by those inconsequences and stupidity of those regulations I know that there is so much lying in commercials, I feel being cheated every day - in McDolands or in a bank... and I think there should be some ethical control... but this is just madness. Maybe they should ban those "quick building" hands since this is also "unreal" and can mislead kids

Well obviously not every word is the same but as much as I know these languages are stunnigly alike and a Swede could easily read or watch Danish and same - Dane reading Norwegian ( Finnish belongs to a completely different group of languages on the other hand )... I'm just surprised that there's such a big difference in naming! I guess that the difference is caused by using local names "kalle" and "anders" to replace "Donald" and a small difference between their translation of "duck". It's just interesting for me since Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse sound much more similar in many european languages that are much harder to undestand This poster is rather danish or norwegian... "og" stands as "and" for both danish and norwegian, it would be "och" in swedish and "en" in dutch I guess it must be norwegian since they use the name DONALD instead of "Anders"!... or maybe Danes used to call him "normally" back in the 60s? Their version of Donald looks kind of scary BTW

Hi guys This is more like a question I'd like to ask our danish friends. Does Lego take a big part in every Dane's life? I mean, think about it, as much as I think of Denmark from the angle of it's history ( as I am a historian myself ), in the eyes of the modern World "Denmark" is just a another tiny country, somewhere next to Sweden ( porn industry ) and Germany ( nazi industry ). It's completely absent in the media and newspapers. Well, perhaps some people might have heard about Queen Margrethe, Andersen's fairy tailes or... that big pile of snow and ice near the north pole with lots of funny natives living in igloos and running with harpoons is this little country's province Perhaps... Perhaps some people my know it for Kopehagen's little mermaid... and some Californians would be familiar with the lovely city of Solvang... And then... there is this most popular toy in the history of the universe. A phenomenon beating large american companies and trademarks... by only one product Seriously, Lego is like the biggest danish contribution to the history of human civilization since the times of your cotrol of Oresund If Lego has been invented in USA Americans would never give it a thought... they have thousands of things that make America famous. But with Danes... So how big is/was Lego's impact on your life? Do all danish childen go on a pilgrimage to Legoland like if it was a Holy Land? Is it in the every day's news, do politicians talk about it? Are foreign toys considered a second class product? Are Lego's ups and downs also ups and downs of the entire nation? ... Or perhaps the whole Lego mania makes you guys sick of it? This is a very interesting matter for me as there is a lot of societies, cities or regions who often build their own identity and pride on just a single silly product or landmark. Like with the Poles. I'm pretty sure that Lego would be our second God if it got invented here... Since we cannot offer much to the civilization we get extremely overproud and crazy of any famous filmaker, musician or inventor with even minimal polish roots. Our politicians take our sportsmen' and business men's succeses as if those were government's successes and we patriotically celebrate a lot of silly things that no other nation would care about...

Aaai... great job on this one So what is this guy in a mask doing with this flamethrower?
-
Nicely done I especially like how you did window blinds. Computer seems kind of vintage, nobody use those big monitors anymore.. ech, good old times!

Yeah, there are some very serious german guys here Welcome to Eurobricks

"Anders And" in Denmark? So how is it that they call him Kalle Anka in Sweden? I thought that these languages are very similar Different naming method perhaps? Wow... these are fine sets!... would be great to hem them... ... it's amazing that they used to have those cars with no drivers and different type of "horses" when "normal" minifigure has already evolved

Was that really ever the case? Well people can always complain about everything but did they really point those alternate models as a such a problem? I've never heard anyone complaining about this matter before and as much as I know no one I talked to was actually anxious to BUILD THEM... Even without the knowledge of english, or swedish or other languages we got our Lego sets in, everyone knew that those were only SUGGESTIONS. Suggestions which were always considered to be a B class of the original... we were simply too busy and too crazy bringing those ships and island to life to actually think about alternate models... and then the whole imagination thing took over completely as we would build up everything we could possibly think of... Is that possible even on the "free market"? I know that there were some restrictions about the lenght of animation in toy commercials in the 80s but never heard about restricting the way this toy should we showed... If the free market rules were obeyed then anyone should advertise his product the way he wants - even by showing a completely different product in commercials than one that a customer would actually get... not mentioning having half an hour of animation in toy commercials Of course customers' complaints is a different matter
-
So you actually took couple of pictures of the desert and sky and then made a compilation? How about these "Legoland" and "Lego" signs, did you do them by yourself or cut them? They look very well and new Well I am "green" on photoshop so everthing like this is still magic for me Did you think about making a classic yellow box with this set?
-
Was wondering the the same thing. I used to "bath" my Legos all the time when I was small and nothing happened... well but I didn't expose them 24h a day Here it could do some damage I guess. But it's also possible that they'he used a different kind of plastic. Maybe it's not even Lego that we see in this scene?

This can't be true... I've feared that Disney would go for Hasbro or Lefo after buying Lucas but hoped that it would not happen and not that fast. Hopefully it's just a rumor. I'm really in oposition to that idea. Big companies owning big companies was never a good thing especially with Disney's today greediness and it's luck of former creativity. It's not Walt Disney's child anymore. They've turned too much from a company creating child's environment and making big bucks thanx to that... into a company focused only on making big bucks. Of course there's a good thing. With Disney as an owner such companies as Marvel will never fear bancrupcy again. And they'll still leave a lot of freedom to it's workers - despite all those Skywalker Mouse visions stuff all around. But the thing is - with buying these companies Disney would obviously controll the whole market and dictate what they would like to everyone, with possibility of buying another big names - like Tyco and so on... There would be not as much place for innovativeness and diversification as there is now. And the biggest problem of all - no one would be able to repurchase these companies anymore, and they could not be taken over by someone with independent great vision... as Disney is not a place for visionaries anymore

I didn't know that Lego's Prince of Persia was a failure! That's very interesting. Do you have more info on that? BTW do you know the numbers - how much did they they have to pay for those licenses? I am surprised that they didn't do John Carter of Mars. I know that the movie was a flop but it's adventorous idea would be a nice choice for Lego. I'd like to create a thread about franchises that we would like to see as Lego, but have to look if there's a proper topic already And yeah... Pokemon's influence on Bionicle is an interesting observation, couple of my friends mentioned about that too BTW what competitor did that guy go to? I don't think Lego has any direct competitor... well maybe Mega Bloks... Tyco and Hasbro are obviously competitors but in a much different matter.

Hehe. Nice one I've used to work on a similar ship like that, called "Odyssey Explorer". Everyones hates them - the crew - cause they sail around the same spot all the time and they pitch all the time, especially that they usually operate on the rough sea. - passing ships - since they have to be carefull about sonars these ships haul This wreck seems to be in a very good condition for 400 years Are these scubadivers ( and shark ) floating? or are they tied to the "ocean floor"?
