  1. Hang him! To gallows with this traitor naah... to say the truth I never enjoyed Pirates kicking Soldiers' butts on offical dioramas Used to spot for those rare moments when it was actually pirates who got beaten/tricked... same with Castle series... never liked that Knights got beaten by the Forestmen... and I'm not sure about the way I played... I used to have a whole well of ideas... and so did my friends... so sometimes I had a princess kidnapped by damn pirates with soldiers as the good guys... on the other occasion I had good buccaners rebel against ruthless governor so... but I guess I used to mix those side all the time, making my own factions... Same with G.I.Joes... Joes and Cobras together fighting other Joes and Cobras but this is always the way you play with toys when you have more sets from one faction than from the other...
  2. Hello Bricklovers Been on this Forum for a while already, but never had much time to really get into the Lego society, many things in life stopped me from constant writing or MOC creating... found this part of the Forum and remembered that I never had a chance to actually introduce myself... and meet some new friends So my name is Mazin, but you can also call me Martin, I'm 30 years old ( eh! ) and I live in the very north of Poland, but always wanted to move out from here somewhere abroad. Besides Lego I'm a huge fan of other vintage toys, comics and cartoons - G.I.Joes, TMNT, Dino-Riders, Cops, Duck Tales, Visionaries, Transformers etc... Well almost everything from the 80s. Music, movies, fashion, cars... As I am actually the founder, master & commander of the polish "American Golden 80s" fans association - http://american80s.blogspot.com/ Along to that I enjoy old & new computer games, travel, and have big interest in history, ethnicity, geography, architecture and many others... I'm also an aspiring writer and screenwriter... My Lego adventure started when I was about 4 years old. There was no Lego to be found in our country at that time, as there was actually NO PRODUCTS to be found in our stores at that time ( joys of Warsaw Pact baby! ), but my father was working on a ferry ( Polish Baltic Ferries ) which were like a gate to another ( western ) dimension and he would buy some sets for me. My very first set must have been one of these: http://lego.wikia.co...t's_Arsenal http://lego.wikia.co...03_Shovel_Truck http://lego.wikia.co...struction_Truck http://lego.wikia.co...0_Cargo_Carrier I also have some Duplos so I probably might have gotten them earlier... I can't really recall. So then it started... I didn't get much even after our borders opened and the whole Lego boom started for real. I got them ocassionally, with main focus on getting Pirates as I had 4 huge sets from this theme. Castle was always my second favorite. Of couse had a big cheer for Town and liked the others, didn't get much of them though. But it was also a very short adventure... Lego boom ended as fast as it started. Polish economy collapsed and it got more and more expensive and my parents were not very eager to buy me anything. On the other hand I choose to focus more on collecting G.I.Joe at the same time. So I have to say that I've always collected Lego more in my mind than in reality, almost ripping these toys out of the catalogs Well, hopefully will realize my dream and get what I always wanted now that I'm an adult. I want to focus more on getting myself MISB sets, as I'm not really into bying used stuff Regards!
  3. But the Imperial Flagship is rather the collectotes item, not a thing for the kids really... course they can play it but the model itself seems to be very out of Lego simplified style. t's much different than other new sets... I agree with guys above, Pirates are the main heroes in the theme, and heroes always get better and bigger "guns" - like in G.I.Joe. And I'd never say that Soldiers were the "good guys"... they used the classic "romantic" pirate aproach here - good buccaners and corsairs kicking ruthless king's soldiers like in "Crimson Pirate", Polanski's "Pirates" and so and so... It was always obvious on the dioramas in catalogs. Soldiers on the other hand are just a back up... other thing is that Legos were created very artistically back then, and making a big set with so many soldiers would look weird... pirates give you a much bigger variety of figures and posibilities. I'd even say that making the Imperial Trading Post was a mistake, cause it would sell ten times better if such a big set was actually full with pirates still... I wanna have it
  4. Whoa! Now it kicked me Of course I could not see Eldorado in 1987!... But I had it stuck so hard in my memory for many years!... Guess I must have seen it at different place, and played with something very similar in France
  5. You can always donate it to the poor Eurobricks members who've always dreamed about getting it Wow... I wish my mom would be saving something like for me for years But yeah... I agree that it's not ethical to sell a gift... and it's not ethical to make profit from a gift either I am very much against speculation, as it will always hit you back someday. You won't make big numbers from it, and you should feel thankfull for getting that, cause others coudln't be so lucky... You can always save it for your own kid as some people do
  6. I too think that this is actually the best set in the POTC series by Lego. Unlike other sets it has this kind of classic feel, basic idea is really nice and the whole set seems very playble. I can figure lots of posibilities for playing with these toys just after one look on the box. We have wagons, horses, nice variety of figures, weapons and an addition of a house too, with some interesting equipment inside... a very grayish house but still... Would be very good source of build if it wasn'y so expensive
  7. I already said that of course they will do anything that they want now, just it doesn't look very ethical to me... there's been lots of franchises in the past aquired by the others and which were never marketed this way Right... forgot about the Airbender... but never said they've never created anything on their own... only that they've never created anything SPECIAL on their own And BTW... it's NOT off-topic... I was still writing about Lego adopting the TMNT franchise... it started to be off topic now when we started to argue so guess we better end it right?
  8. Will apreciate this very much I agree completely I was thinking about getting myself some sets that would stay boxed, but guess it would be waste. You can't see what's inside the box anyway, with or without them... Different case is with carded G.I.Joe figures. These have an obvious reason to keep them unopened. The only sad thing with opening every Lego set is that you will have them all opened in the end... There's not so many of them, just a matter of time... Well, you can always buy another set of boxes to have it opened again at a different time right? Aaah... Another catch So now You have to review this one too, there's no other way Wait... There were exclusives?? You mean like normal sets... or just some gadgets? And yeah... I guess people would have problems with some of my old sets if I would ever sell them I still cannot remove some pieces from the others... head stuck in a helmet and so and so Seems that someone at Lego was stealing these coins for himself ... or was it the monkey
  9. Awesome review Boomchil, as always. BTW how do make your pictures look like this? They do have a very proffesional aproach... What kind of equipment do you use? I agree about these alternate models. They did a very good job making them so nicely out of so few elements... Aaaah!... omg omg omg... It's not a rumor, it's not a legend it's real! Quick, look behind you people, before it's gonna be too late! For a building factor yes, but artistically this would be wrong. Two "shakos" per such a small set would be too much. On the other hand they could replace the governor with a simple marine I'd love to see a set with both types of soldiers... Sad that they were featured only in Carribean Clipper... Yes and no. Antenas would obviously make a nice palisade... but on the other hand you would have plenty (!) of prison doors! .... and plenty of parrots too Anyway... who said that there is something wrong with having even 10 of these I wish they could make these smaller sets turned into a really good looking fortress if attached together. Something like Constructicons in Transformers - buy 5-10 small sets to have a big one! Would make a great promotional effect I think this was the case with some of the sets from Knights, right?
  10. Boomchil, sinse you're the expert here... Just out of simple curiosity - is there always the same amount of gold coins in every set with a chest?
  11. Simply stunning! I agree with commodore Big Cam - with few changes this one would be a nice one to turn into an official set, very inspirational ... as well as your other pirate MOCs One question... I see that you gave them different typu of rifle. Where did you get them? These are not from Western series eiter...
  12. Wow. I actually had to take a third look to actually find out that there are some spanish soldiers behind the walls! Would swere that it's full of the French guys before... So this ambush is actually not that perfect as it could Or maybe those guys in black morions are from another faction - Portugese perhaps Anyway.. nice diorama! ... and very inspirational too... love this colonial-jungle adventure feel
  13. Huntleyfx is right with the apaulettes. Althought some of it's early forms were already used since the first part of the XVII century. But I don't see a problem to actually include them. Lego has never been that accurate - napoleonic shakos in Pirates is a perfect example... and nobody complains BTW... That's a great diorama ACPin!
  14. Very good job indeed. Hay, if I am right there is as many besiegers as the besieged! 17 vs 17
  15. Nice one! Well figurehead is little big but otherwise good job Could use traditional sail too... This one could make a great inspiration for an offical Lego set! Medieval warship ship like this would be something I'd surely buy
  16. Not a bad idea!... It sure would look nice... on the other hand - Lego stamp on everything has always been part of the Lego magic... Adopting other franchises is already too much for me... BTW Does anyone know how much did they pay Disney for POTC licence? I've heard different numbers for Star Wars - from 50 to 500 mln $... How much could POTC cost them?
  17. Ok. I was never very much into Lego adopting other franchises, and I'm very unpleased that Laird dediced to sell his child to Nicolodeon but... WHY ON EARTH to they call it "NICOLODEON Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles"? Like if Nicolodeon have invented them. Ok - the sets don't look that bad, right - they own the property... but it isn't their child. They've never had anything to do with creating PHENOMENON... baa... TMNT franchise is worth much more than the whole NICOLODEON itself. They've never created anything special on their own... well... I like the Penguins but they are made on the license. Spongebob? No thank you... Now it looks like they want to take all the credit for TMNT for themselves and cut 25 previous years out of the story... Thumbs down
  18. Oh right, now blame poor little monkey Not sure about silver... but some diamonds would be nice, like some precious gem or something... but I'm happy already with gold... to much is not a good thing... well... a very big pile of gold would be nice on the other hand 150 is nice! I wish we already had euros, with our current currency we are always behind the rest of europe - everything is 3-4 times more expensive for Poles... for You guys 150 euros is like 2-3 days on minimum wage... for us it would be like 9 days on minimum wage Can't wait to read that! Great idea!... Hopefully you will write down some "sollutions" how to pick those things So it's not actually MISB then? Did you manage to get yourself these instructions from another place? Yeah... I've seen http://lego.wikia.co...dorado_Fortress only once in my life... back in 1987... at someone's house... in Paris Strange cause I knew plenty of Barracudas and Royal Clippers Well I have these... my both cousins did... some friends did... I can't even recall seeing Eldorado at any shop. Always thought that http://lego.wikia.co...al_Trading_Post would be the hardest to get.... as it's the... biggest set in Pirates "universe"... right? ... 9 minifigures! ...although I think Eldorado seems to be much more "alive" and playble than Trading Post... they've designed it much better in my opinion... it's PERFECT ... and Trading Post is just nice... I'd have never made it the way they did... Do you have this one Boomchil? How much did you have to pay for postal service BTW? Or was it included? Wow.... can't imagine how big this article will be since you make such an effort with these tiny sets
  19. Wow... you obviously did some research about british troops before making it. Very nice Recruits are in camp uniforms ( caps! ), artillery's Montrose is in blue and rifle's Harriman is in proper green... and he even got a different rifle than the line troops! ... guess Richard Sharpe was very helpful Thumbs up!
  20. Nicely made indeed. But I would go with classis lamps, there's too much red for these flames. They would fit better if the ship was more yellowish or something. Like the idea of your ancient / mythological warrior figurhead. Is his face the one from a skeleton?
  21. Wow... another great review Boomchil! I guess I would give this set a better note but... maybe I am just too much in love with those classics My childhood friend had this one. Was kind of unique cause this was like the only figure that heve never appeared in any other pirate set again... And it was called the way they've called it in UK for sure. "Lodz gubernatora Broadside'a"... - that's the proper way in polish. I think they've never polonized characters' names, leaving the original ones... Different thing with ships - those were translated. I like your idea! But it would be much better with another soldier/pirate standing by the cannon and it being attached to a small island perhaps. Would look great if mixed with this set: http://lego.wikia.co...492_Battle_Cove Nah... I wouldn't complain about that... there's been a lot more lego sets with things too big or too small making it look more weird ... but still playble That's bery probable. Guess they were forced by some government child-care issues. America can be very restrictive in some weird matters... like maximum time of animation in commercials and stuff... Still, it's kind of crazy that the cannon thing worked perfectly well in Europe. I actually had one american pirate set "once upon..." but never knew that the cannon was a non-shooting one until I've read about it on Eurobricks You sure about this "every birthday" thing? It doesn't say it on the flyer. It would be A LOT of toys to give away... Were the club members required to buy a toy every 3-6 months or something like that?
  22. Wow. Great review Boomchil! Very informative! You managed to fit every possible data one would ask in there But I have one accusation... You stole gold for yourself! You've never shown putting it into the chest! and am I wrong or is this gold actually... silver? Maybe that's the way it was photographed?... but it looks different to me. BTW ... is it actually possible to collect ALL classic lego pirates MISB sets novadays? ... i'm not very much into buying used stuff Not sure about that... The whole thing looks little bit like a very remain of a gun deck - single embrasure...
  23. Nicely said. But it's something that touches all Lego series. Worst thing is that too many new colours and patterns is not good for combining old sets with the new ones, like Cap'n Blackmoor said above :/ And there will be more colors coming I guess... BTW... do we have to pay more for all those "shiny" elements? Does it make those pieces more expensive to produce or is it pretty same price?
  24. I see. Sorry for this misunderstending But You can't say I din't make the background for Your idea much bigger
