Oh absolutely. I like the way they did Ninjago villains very much! Those snakes are fantastic. Their design and the whole Ninjago idea would very well even outside Lego franchise - like if those were Hasbro or Tyco toys But I would not entirely agree with catching consumers by surprise... they did at same cases of course... but still examples of Harry Potter, Indy, Batman or Prince of Persia seem to work as "following the herd" all the way I would say that in the 80s they were much more into making pure childish themes, coming straight from kid's dreams and imagination, yound person's "fairy tale vision" of the world Knights, Pirates, Space and big world around ( Town ) were the most fascinating things for a 6 or 10 year old. Well, perhaps Cowboys and Dinosaurs too... I think that modern Lego television series are as much an effect of giving them more story and character, as the evolution of modern animation technics... the old way of animation used for TMNT, G.I.Joe or Transformers would not work well with Lego minigifigures. Well can't know that for sure because TLG has never tried that but digital animation gave Lego a great opportunity

those were great... I'd love to get all of these commercials somewhere... they could at them as a bonus on dvd It's funny that these short toy commercial had actually better animation the sunbow show itself, same with later animations for comic books and there's still a lot of weird differences between those animations and toys or sunbow series - like some color changes and voices anyway... good job on adopting this commercial... hopefully you'll do some of the cartoon intros moments too

Some explanation about the stores thing is also that there is a lot of fake Legos around. Small retailers prefer to order those cheap chinese crap than more expensive Legos as they used to. Personally I don't know how is it that government is not fighting this situation and officially allowes it to be sold . Although I've read that Lego managed to take over and destroy some fake toys in Finland which is a good sign Yeah... Ninjago is a phenomenon... I didn't know that it's doing that well... quite surprising one as it's not so special in design and the whole ninja-mania was like 20-15 years ago And about those animted shows or wideo games... it's pretty obvious that it's caused just by the technological jump... and a growth of the video gaming industry itself... we can't credit that just to changes in their marketing philosophy... they would do the same if it was possible in the 80s or 90s I wonder if there is some kind of a list where we could compare those sales...

I didn't say that they HAD brand stores and I realize that internet shopping is very popular these days... yet... it's something really bothering that it's hard to find Legos in stationary stores when you can easily buy games and movies there, movies and games which are usually targeted and bought by teenagers and adults for themselves... and who can buy these products easily and cheaply using internet... thinking of parents bying Lego FOR THEIR KIDS I don't really envision most of them using internet to do that... some of them but not most... Internet is powerfull... but it isn't the explanation for Lego's disappearance from stores...

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
Mazin replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
In general I love all cartoons from the 80s - I review them on my blog: http://american80s.blogspot.com/2012/08/cartoon-hour-3-visionaries-knights-of.html http://american80s.blogspot.com/2012/07/cartoon-hour-2-sky-commanders.html http://american80s.blogspot.com/2012/01/rambo-force-of-freedom.html there's more to come! Can't really say which one is my favorite. For a long time it has been G.I.Joe. Especially Sunbow seasons, but I enjoy DIC version too. I saw Visionaries recently and immidiately fell in love with this show, wish they could make more episodes - there were only 13 released! Among my favorites are also Duck Tales, original Turtles ( but last seasons are of much worse quality ), Dino-Riders, New Adventures of He-Man , C.O.P.S. animated, Centurions, Chuck Norris Karate Commandos, Transformers... and Smurfs! Also old Cartoon Network shows like first Johny Quest and Scooby-Doo & Scrappy-Doo 70s Godzilla, Space Ghost, Bird Man, Conan the Adventurer, Swat Cats, Batman and more... and of course a lot of full time length movies - Disney's classics ( Dumbo! ), All dogs go to heaven... and G.I.JOE the Movie!! - my childhood's Holy Grail Come back good old times... pleeeease -
Very nice review! Wanna have it... that's like the very first LOTR set that really struck me from the first sight I like the idea of creating this page with all the characters... on the other hand it kind of lays all the cards on the table And why does it have to be so expensive?

I don't really read the new ones. I liked the old style of comics more. So I buy only those great old classic from 80s and 90s like Norm Breyfogle's Batman, Punisher, G.I.Joe, Transformers, John Byrne's stuff etc... and some French bestsellers - Asterix and Lucky Luke... they never get me bored And some Disney's pocket comi books of couse! - I prefer Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge to Micky Mouse

Yay... this Dreadnoks hideout really makes me to scream for this theme to be made Zartan looks great, same with his Swamp Skier I also like Spirit very much Sky Hawk is little bit different than the original one but guess you coudln't make it the other way. Is that Roadblock over there? He's never used his helmet in action I had him in Tiger Force version - looked nicer that way. Those early figures were very dark in appearance. I remember that I started thinking of Lego G.I.Joe as soon as they adopted Star Wars. Guess that there's a lot of vehicles that would be very easy to make - like RAT/PACs or Water Moccasin or my favorite HAVOC. Yay... I want a Raider!

Yeah I agree completely that Lego diversified during these years. Can't deny that they've invented a lot of fine new stuff too. And I have to admit that they did a superb job turning popular movie mediums into these small simple toys, yet very detailed and convincing toys!... even though I personally don't like that idea But do you think that they actually grew stronger in recognition and sales? I know that they had some ups and downs recently... But my question is: are they making more money now comparing with 80s/early 90s Lego rage? As I said before - Legos are not available in as many places as they were before... yet TLG can spend tons of money on licensing dozens of franchises... and they produce much more than before - judging after my observation

Hope you will succeed with that plan and share it with us Wlcome to Eurobricks

Lovely! How can I get that book? Is Amazon the only ( and best ) option for a polish guy?

The simplest and yet most complex LEGO set of all...
Mazin replied to LEGO Historian's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This does look nice. They could still release them under a different trademark or something. It's fun to see a completely different shape of Lego's logo and how the company's product evolved itself. I could really see kids playing with sets like these: Thanx for creating this thread LEGO Historian! -
I'm surprised that so many people actually think of 2000s as the Golden Age. Have to argue. There'are two things you have to look at when discussing this question - sales and quality. I don't know the numbers - it's possible that all this novadays Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indy Jones etc franchise mania gives Lego the biggest income ever - so then they could consider this as their Golden Age - as you usually think of Golden Age from the angle of money making=fame=power. And I'm not sure if people are buying those franchises more for Indy and Star Wars than for Lego itself. On the other hand I think novadays Lego is not as popular as it used to be in the 80s and early 90s... Lego is not every child's favorite toy anymore... as there is a big impact of computers and stuff... Those boxes were in every shop 15 of 20 years ago!... Now it's even hard to find a decent toy store. Of course novadays there is a also a massive Fandom that spends much much more than any other kid during a year on Legos... it's obvious that TLG coudn't have such a support 20 years ago... yet, I don't think they make that much money thanks to Fandom But if you look at the Golden Age issue from the angle of quality, creativity, atractiveness, then you definitely have to think of the 80s and early 90s as the Golden Age. You just can't neglect that those sets were much better those days. Simplicity and playbility were the major reason of it's fame and giant succes. Novadays Lego fails to resemble it now as it went way too far the way Playmobil is. ...and saving time or money on everything by TLG is obvious now... + unnecessary showiness. I could compare it to G.I.Joes situation after 1989-91. Lego jumped the shark years ago and only thing that is saving them is it's name and those franchises...

Yay... good job! This cover art is amazing. I like that you gave him a bicorne instead of tricorne. Makes a much better effect. Especially with the skull. Could try POTC Barbossa's hat too. -
Great effort! It had to take years and you buliding this MOC that I could actually appreciate the idea of Transfomers-Spideman crossover Always thought that Transformers should stay on their own... Now you have to make something with Prime. Megatron can't get better than Optimus

Nicely... never would have guessed he was yellow I don't know... yellow seemed to be the most proper color for him comparing to machine's grayness Now I see that he's got... some kind of a "steering wheel" too? BTW had a quick look at your webiste. Great job with those Lego boxes! You take on recreating Cosmic Cruiser is simply stunning! Box art and placing is perfect. How did you do that?
