Maybe they are simply guarding Hudson Bay or other part of northern America incase pirates would try to attack in there? ;) Then again there's plenty more seas to plunder than just goold old Carribean, pirates worked some colder areas as well, so i guess Lego could extend their universe into those uncharted waters. Then again, maybe Pirates should stay in their classic neighbourhood, but with tendency to add new faction into a succesfull franchise i do believe some of them should end up being placed in different cornerw of Earth, real one, or Lego-themed. But i'm well aware that would take Pirates from their stereotypical environment everyone associate them with. So should changes be neccessary i say maybe it would be wiser to add some water-friendly elements, rather than change trees. A small army canoe perhaps? One that could carry their gear and supplies on the waterways, along their landroute, just like armies used to do it back then. And if he should add a cannon to make it more appealing, then maybe it could be simply fixed onto that boat. Maybe those are canadian reinforcements on their way to Jamaica, since boys from the local garrison can't deal with scourge of the sea, and they need to be replaced with tougher men from the north ;)

Very cool. I used to do and post some comics too, actually i still have plenty of photos intended for comic stories, but never had time to work on them in Paint ;) Maybe some day will go back to it to finish the whole thing, so that all that work i've invested into it woul be worth it ;) And yeah, when i was a kid i thought about blue soldiers as the French and red soldiers as the British, but back then my knowledge and interest in history was much smaller, right now i try to get inspired by all those classic models and scenarios of my childhood plays to sort of mimic them in my own projects, with the one about polish-swedish wars ( "Deluge" ) being the most advanced.

Very interesting, thank You! :) I'm a history geek myself, well, got master's degree from that geekness actually, and i'm passionate about all things Scandinavia and Baltic oriented ( even tho some would argue if Finland is part of Scandinavia or not ), as my parents used to work in a ferry company called Polferries and sailed to all corners of this sea, when i was young. i'm a bit of a ferry geek too because of that and so since Finland is a giant on the the ferry market it's all kinda connected to each other in my mind - Baltic, Scandinavia, Finland, ferries, history, maritime wars, my chidlhood, even Legos! as my first sets came from duty free shops on those very ferries, back in times when we couldn't realy get them on land actually, and when ferries were sort of a gateway to a different world of the West :) And i remmber that some of our ferries did go to Hank ( that's how we call it ), as well as reading about a battle taking place there in 1714. So it's very cool to meet someone from such place :) We got a book about the battle of Oravais ( and the whole war for of 1808-1809 ) released on the polish market recently, so i hope to get a copy and read about those events soon :) A friend of mine is currently writing about russo-swedish clashes on the Baltic too. Publications like these are always kinda an event for me realy, cause history of nordic countries is not that popular among our historians and publishers, while i'm different and would like to see much more stuff on this subject available. And since i can't get enough reading material from others, i'm working on some reading material myself right now. Got some big adventure projects involving both Sweden and Finland, that i'm hoping to finish soon :) BTW You must be one of those swedish speaking Fins then i guess? ;) perhaps even one of those that never learned finnish too? ;) Anyway, i hope that Your minifigs will decide to take us for more walks trough this beautiful landscape, case i sure would like to see more of them! Who knows, maybe this photo session will inspire You ( and them ) to build a whole new fort for them, located on this coast? Or since there's plenty of islands and shallows in the area, they could build themselves a galley or a snauw, pram, xebec or other craft designed for these waters :)
-
Wow, i wasn't aware i could speak italian! ;) last time i've tried to learn it was like back in 1994 or 95 ;) didn't know i had it in me all this time ;) But back to the topic. About Your design. I've just realized that there's no place to stick the figiure on Your raft Maybe that's not nececary and he anyone using it can sit there or stand then without falling, and since this is a displayable thing, a diorama it probably can go around some of the Lego rules. Then again, some folks might complain about this little fact, so if You'd be lookinf for improvemenets it could use a small piece that figures could be attached too. Tho maybe i'm wrong and that flag pole is there for this same purpose, so that everyone interested in taking a ride could hold on to it? :)
-
Yeah, i remember that "rule" too, tho, just by looking at photos in catalogues i always felt that Pirates were the good guys as they always seemed to be beating the crap out of Soldiers ;) Same goes for castle sets, "robin-hoods" seemed to be winning with knights, so... But i think they're not into it anymore, Lego i mean, it's sort of planned in advance for us, or kids, who should we use as good or bad. I miss my battles with my childhood friend too, bud, i guess most if not all of us do... even tho i never had any imperial forts ;) BUT back to the topic :) Last time i commented i forgot to mention that pirate could probably be in chains, so that he would not escape, cause right now he just lays there with nothing keeping him there realy. Tho, since there is a ceremonial cap by his bench, i guess he was probably just drunk by the hight priest, and that's why he is in a state where he can't escape, but await his doom ;)
-
Impressive details and landscaping work as always, bud! And those passages and hidden comparment in the rock are pretty cool too, i espiecially like that entrance with bars, because we haven't seen this kind so far in Yur sets. It's kinda like a sewer drain ;) But i like it. Is it supposed to be a sort of crocodile kennel? That tribal totem and characters, as well as decorative elements with blazing skulls are awesome as well, and the prison door is just amazing. I'm not sure if i'm a fan of those stairs tho, to be perfectly honest. I do envy You for what You've done with them, can't deny that, lot's of work behind them for sure, but i just don't think they work there. I think they could be less decoratite, and maybe instead of them there could be some walkway build into the rock. Maybe even build the way that it would go around the entire structure. Or a simple rope ladder, or a ladder made out of spears, a neeting, something truly primitive in appearance would be more convincing. The way it is now those stairs seem out of place. Like if they were stolen from Cinderella's castle, if You know what i mean ;) Then again, since You've built such an impressive stairs, i guess those Islanders could use some boat/canoe next to them. Cause right now they seem to lead to nowhere, they end up in the water and i believe Islanders get into that island and to those stairs by some sort of a craft? Thus, maybe it would work better if those stairs could be replaced by some creepy sacrificial slide? :) So that a prisoner would be sacrified by letting him slide straight into the death by crocodiles jaws, crocodiles being sacred creatures of the native of course ;) I do recall seing this kinda "slide of tortute" in some classic Hollywood adventure movie, or maybe it was some cheap italian sword-and-sandal flick, cant be sure. But movies are always a good source of inspiration. But the thing i'm most confused with this set is that flat top. I mean, i totally believe this part would work better as a completely separate You know, if all that grass and jail could be offered separately. Then it would do. Right now, this type of the rocky island seems just... not Your quality ;) It's like a terrace, huge field of green, that could use some more additions here and there, just like that rocky jail on the left is great, the same way i'd add some playable featutes here and there. Maybe, if this whole island is a sacrificial place, they could have a boiling pot, to cook those unlucky ones. Creepy, i know, but this whole set is kind creepy, and creepiness seems to be a leading theme of this whole contest ;) So why don't we go all the way into the kid-unfriendly zone ;) Generaly speaking, it needs balance. The same way You've focused on the left side of the island, the right part seems neglected. I think it would look better if Youd decide to repisition those stairs to the very right part, together with the baseplate/water and make stairs actually face the prisondoor. This way You would create this kind of longer path leading to the jail, and then those two bushes could be positioned on both sides of the island, together with blazing skulls. Did this simple drawing to show You what i have in mind.

I actually like that, creepy but a lovely little set :) Got a ready to play story and nice parts. I'm not sure if this chief priest should needs to be standing on that elevetation. Tho i can't tell if it would be worse visually, but then again, this spear is quite long, so he would be able to reach him with it ;) Now about the pirate, if he's to be sacrificed perhaps he should should have a bare chest, if not be seminaked. But then again, i like his current look. I also think that with one simple trick this offering could get itself an easy to make alternative set up, but You'd need to add one extra piece somewhere in here. What I mean is, this bench and that tribal banner could make a pretty nice throne, with, i guess, our pirate getting promoted to a king, should the priest change his mind or get thunderstriked ;) Or maybe that what he's doing right now? Maybe he's not trying to kill him, but rather, evaluating if he's worth to become a warrior king, or maybe he's just doing some baba aga haga kaga spelling to make this pirate an invincible warrior? But about that extra element i hinted, there's this "pillow" piece, right under pirate's head, if You'd have one more piece like this, Youd could use them for armrests for that throne. And then even those circular brown "elevation" bricks, that chief priest stands on, could be used to either raise the throne up, or to put them behind that bench at fit that totem into them. Or the totem could stand the way it is build now, and those brown pieces could be used to support plants and they could be located behind the throne as well, to make it esthetically even more original ;) But that's if You'd like to try something else for this set, right now it still looks cool, the way it is, and it doesn't realy need any redecorating ;)

I'm totally buying it, i like it ;) I totally love that the packaging and dark horrorish vibe, but i've always liked a coctail of history and monster-hiding-in-the woods genres ;) And realy it's hard to be picky about anything in here - You've got a nice set of faces, all interesting pieces, tons of play value, everything seems appealing, tho, if i'd grab a whole bunch of these, then i'd probably have to get rid of most of those spiders, but that's just me, i'm scared of spiders ;) And i guess some folks will complain about the lack of backpacks for soldiers and that there's no feather for that officer's hat, or that an officer should have a different waste, but i don't mind that, never realy cared about those first two elements, especially feathers which are always falling out or, for worse, tend to get lost. They all look good in here and i wouldn't change a thing. There's one thing tho that i believes in unnecesary in here, cant what it is, as its kinda hidden and visible only on the first photo, but i guess it;s just some eart that You've let that tree grow from? I don't think that it's needed in there, that tree would be perfectly fine it it was just alone, BUT, it's always an extra element that could be used for building right? Weapon choices are fine, if You'd use some sort of camp, fortress background, then a gun rack could be in place, but since they are just on a trip in a forrest i guess it;s not needed, and those benches are quite cool actually. No idea were did they take them from, but do we need to know that? I guess not. Maybe one of them could have an axe to be able to cut trees, but then again, that's not how benches are made, and adding more equipment would make this set a bit crowded ;) I personaly would like to see an officer with a partisan some day in a Lego set, it would be a small change from the usual obligatory side arms they carry, but then, nothing will replace a good old pistol and sabre duo ;)

Very nice! If i can be honest, this is one of those sets that realy needs a closer look to evaluate all the amazing work You've done here, as photography and presentation could scare some folks from voting for it. I mean, it's not that it's bad, my camera work would be probably worse, its just that there's so many pros in this field in this contets, and Your presentaiton is also quite dark ;) I do think that giving it more sunny vibes would make it more attractive. Cause it is attractive! I like those finishes on the roof, and that lantern, and that garage for a boat, window with bars and those battlements, especialy in the area where You've instaled Your gun. Rock formation and it's coexistence with those plants is very appealing, as is the landing area under that roof. And that room with small cabinet and a painting ( a map? ) on the wall is a nice touch. I even like that pirate fellow with an epoulette, tho looking at his waste i wasn't sure at first if the epoulette would go with it well. But i like it. Just as i like those bonus features, secred compartments, nice thinking. Tho, here i'd point out that maybe there should be no water under that barrel? That is if it's a secret stash, cause we woudln't want all that gold to sink in there, would we? But maybe i'm wrong here and it's not a storage but rather a secret entrence where pirates would emerge from the water or would jump into it to dive and swim under water into their safety? With tha storage in a rock, i don't have anything against the storage but i think the rock itself could use a bit more "decoration". Like a pirate skull installed on top of it? Just placed in there, or places on a spike/spear to scare the hell out any possible intruders. The thing is, that in Your first photo, and without knowing that there is a secret compartment in it, it looks unneeded in there. It's just a rock. End maybe it could be more of an entry sign. A warning. Now, the only think i don't like are those sails on the raft. Maybe it's photos again, but the way i see it, it's weird, it looks more like a piece from a destroyed airplane that was fixed in there. So i would use other pieces ( if possible ) in there. They could be made out of small pennants or bland flag pieces, anything that could work as a sail realy :) Or You could leave that raft without any sail. And finally, as much as i like those yellow elements on top of Your structure, battlements, i would realy love Lego to prepare better pieces for it. Cause for me it reminds me of classic yellow Lego caste, and i love Your choice of those pieces, but i'm afraid some viewers might see them as blocks of butter. At least they sort of remind me of it. Still, as i said, i realy love it the way it is. The whole compound is both classy, very playable, got nice features and details. The only thing that need real work is that sail on the raft. I'm a bit afraid tho that since the whole set is supposed to be a remake, some folks might find it not modern enough as those remake, as You've probably seen it in other entries, tend to be remastered to the extreme ;)

[ENTRY] SIN ISLAND: Keg & Cutlass Inn + Comic book
Mazin replied to Marooned Marin's topic in Pirate MOCs
Lovely! Glad i could be helpful :) Looking at captain's office now i'm almost proud ;) But seriously, this must the best interior of a building i've seen so far in our contest! I don't know, maybe that's the camera work, lighting, whatever, but it's just amazing, give's me this extreme vibe, makes me wanna jump into that room or demolish my own current room and build something similar for myself, it's so climatic :) And is it my imagination or is his chair actually rotating?? I like that new kitchen as well... or should we call it a galley since it's kinda a ship that happened to be anchored forever and became one with that rock? ;) On the technical note, i'd like it very much if pics of Your old version could be available somewhere to see again :) After all, it was a nice set the way it was, and i hope You didn't delete it completely ;) And You've got one hell of a nephew, i tell ya, i hope he keeps coming up with more new ideas and doesn't "grow out of Lego" :) Anyway, can't wait to see Your next entry/entries! -
Yeah, looking at it this way, thinking of it more as a statue made out of Lego rather than a playable set makes it a lot different :) And i guess a lot of folks do buy their toys just to look at them, display, often not even trying to open them, keeping them boxed or carded like if they were still owned by the toy shop :) But then again, Lego is Lego, it's purpose is to be constantly used for building, and i'm not sure the judges will like the non-playability approach ;) Tho, it is a lovely set, even without usable tower it would still make a hell of a toy, and then anyone could just didsassemble this structure to use those bricks whatever way they want ;) I mean, i'd love to have it awany and this one ust screams to use in a Lego Pirates cartoon someday, i just have this feeling looking at like if it was taken out of animation :) Maybe that's because i've watched too much of Asterix in Britain and it reminds of the Tower of London/Londinium ;) And damn it, i'm not sure if i was blind the first time i've reviewed Your entry or if You've made changes, but i've just noticed that Your staircase /handrail is built out of sabres! Wow. Impressive work and what an original idea! :)

Nice camera work :) That first photo does look a bit like Carribean, but with other ones i guess they sailed somewhere to northern parts of Europe to seek that treasure? ;) IS that a scandinavian landscape perhaps? What's that tall tower/structure in the far distance? Btw, at first glance i was sure that Captain Roger was lifting that chest by his hook. He'd be a very strong man then ;) No wonder his people made him a captain then. But now that i've enlarged Your photo i see that chest just stands next to him and so i'm dissapointed ;)

Glad i could help :) I wasn't familiar with that Imperial set, thanx! Looking forward to see and review Your mini cosntruction entry then :)

Very nice :) Everything immidiately grabs attention, from our main character to his interesign sidekick and the unique style of the raft. Is that sawfish in the background part of the set as well? Or is is just part of the background. If fits with the rest pretty well actualy :) And i guess it's thinking about a revenge for it's poor cousin's demise ;) The only element that i think could see a change here are those carrot-colored elements of the raft, they seem out of place. Since this guy and his crat obviously went trough a lot of problems, maybe those piece could be even removed to make the raft appear a bit run-down. And by saving those piece this way, You could include that sawfish... IF it's not part of the set right now. If it is, then maybe our friend could get a spear to do some hunting, ha? Even tho, honestly, i like him the way he is, armless, kinda like a hippie on stranger tides ;) Other than that it's very appealing. I even like those plastic sets tho i generaly dislike modern approach to them.
-
Wow, that's a lot of baseplates in one backyard ;) And what a lovely little set. And with it being little i think that maybe there's too many characters for this kind of size? One of the islanders could go, well, be sacrificed for more parts to the main structure. I actually like it, got a feeling this would be well rememberd by fans if it would come out in the 90s. Love that roof finishes, white battlement and that terrace, but my favorite part perhaps is that blue-red-blue thing over the window, forgot the proper word ;) And that shiny thing above the sitting officer is supposed to be a lantern or a chandelier i guess? This part of Your design is a bit confusing in my opinion and maybe it could be replaced with something more resembling classic lego lantern or a torch? The little room inside You've created gives me this vibe of a classic set, but at the same time it realy serves no purpose, it's to small to make a use of it, tho maybe there could be enough place for weapon rack or a little cabinet, a shelf with accesories that could be found in this kind of compound? And the ladder seems badly positioned, i have no idea what's the reason for it being there other than so that the monkey could hold on to it ;) It's certainly not intended for that watchguard to climb up that higher part. And it's kinda strange that in order to get to that skeleton soldiers would have to go trough that door, then jump down to the floor climb to that creepy torture chamber ;) Or maybe this area of the compound is supposed to be secret and even it's inhabitans are not aware that that poor fellow is hanging behind their wall? So the option for an upgare and improvement would be to get rid ot that back wall on the left side, and extend it a bit into the rear, this would create more room inside the compound and maybe there could be some direct walkway leading into the skeleton's apartment. Then the ladder could be properly moved into the other side of the fort, so that it could be used to climb up. Or if You'd decide that there's no need for an offical route to the higher ground, then maybe the ladder could be replaced for something more fitting in such creepy location. Like bars to turn this section into a prison. Or You could actually add two more ladders of this type to use them as bars.

[ENTRY] 6274 Carribean Clipper Remake "Governor's Galleon"
Mazin replied to VeriYolki's topic in Pirate MOCs
It looks nice on the presentation, folks could be fooled if it wasn't for those untidy sails ;) But it's definitely out of scale! That stern is GIANTIC! Got this feeling like if Soldiers were Smurfs who took over this ship. And the whole vessel is kinda fat realy, like a water bulldog ;) So i guess what it could use is scaling down a bit, especialy that stern, or lenghtening it. But with all the work You've done Your presentation seems very restrained, one photo and i'm surely it could gain more voted if You could show is what's inside. Stern alone is so big there's surely something interesting in captain and officers quarters right? And that's just one area, i wonder what's under that main deck. Surely those guns below should be reachable, so i guess it's openable somehow? Either fromt the top of the deck, or from the side of the board? Same foes for the stern, classic pirate Baracuda had an option to easily access captain quarters, did You engineer something similar in here? I alspo think that such a big galleon could use a boat. Or if a boat is too typical than maybe some other kind of landing craft. I've read that sometimes galleons had this kind of a recoinesance yacht, that could be carried onboard in parts, and then put on the sea when assembled. OR, since You have so many minifgs included, then maybe some of them could be turned into Pirates and they would be the ones with a a craft, trying to sneak onboard, ha? Still, it's an impressive work. A lot of us dreamed about having a proper big Soldiers' ship in the franchise and i guess many would prefer Your version instead of that monster they've officialy released some time a go ;) Couple of updates and who knows? Maybe You could launch as a project in the Idea and fans and Lego people would fall in love with it? ;) -
[ENTRY] 6259 Broadsides Brig / 6234 Renegades Raft
Mazin replied to thewatchman's topic in Pirate MOCs
I love the raft and the tatooed pirate, those are best things about this, and some structure work is impressive in here, also the idea to use that palm tree as a bridge is brilliant! Simple frature, but makes such a cool prop out of a simple tree. That's a plus! But i do have doubts about creating such small add ons. Separately they don't look interesting, one must realy have an ability to see them in a bigger picture, to judge if they are attractive and worth it. So maybe they could be actually used as a minibuild themselves? Thinking about them being bonus builds for an existing set is one thing, surely they would find their buyers, but i do think lego sets should work as stand alones, even the smallest ones, and i woudln't mind this being a set, a pack of x number of small add ons, but it would be much cooler if they could work together, to construct a nice small sets only by using them. Surely there's plenty of thought in it, and parts, and engineering so they could and should be able to be brought together to create something realy worth all that work You've invested into them. And, those rocky elements, they all seem to have quite a volume. So maybe there could be something hidden in them? Not in all of them, but some could use this idea. Having secret openable compartments is always fun.- 25 replies

Not sure if we should leave comments in here, i don't want Mods to scream at me that i waste their time by continuing discusion in an entry that breaks the rules, but i must admit i kinda like that ;) The thing that screams to me that it should be changed is that giant flag on the boat, other than that, it's quite intruging, very simple, but it's got some value. It those characters could be changed to proper minifigs and if You could change that cannon into a proper lego gun, i guess You could try reentering it into the contest and with few upgrades here and there in the set, it could be popular with the reviewers. It is quite popular now, so Yoiu better not waste such opportunity, there's still time ;)
-
Damn it! You made me angry man, cause right now i realy want to go back to 90s and buy this set... hell, i want Lego to release this great 90s set again! ;) And i want that catalog too! I always loved Lego catalogs, guess i might have spent more time actually reading them and dreaming about sets i didnt have, than playing with Legos i owned ;) So... great work! I'm so shocked what You've managed to achieve in here that i honestly don't even want to look at what could be done here to improve things. I just love it. Guess it's sort of a magic trick then, without all that work on the background, if it looked different i might be more picky, but the way it is now, i just want to jump into a world were this toy exists and play with it ;) And i wouldn't say it needs anything, sure it's simple, but that how those classic sets used to be, it's got everything and i'm not such a purist to complain about the way that palm tree or that bush is connected to the ground. Maybe it could be better rather than just sit on on those grey elements, but... it actually makes it looks more classic again. I wonder if the throne is removable tho? It looks like something that could and should be carried out on some occasion, so that the Main Guy would get some sun while still seating on his tribal chair. And perhaps id could work as litter/palanquin too, to be carried around? But the again, it's only me forcing myself to look for possible additions to give it more play value. Modern Lego enthusiast could point out that the classic simplicity of this set leaves plenty of undeveloped space in Your set. There's a lot of the green area, and the that room under chief's throne seems completely vacant. I know that it hosts the treasure chest, but when the chest is taken out of there it serves completely no purpose. So if the throne would be moved from it's location to the outside, as most kids would probably do from time to time, and whenever that chest would be removed from the treasure room, we would end up with two vacant apartments ;) Makes me wonder what could be put in those areas instead. Surely one of the Islanders could stand in that tower on the watch, or take a tam-tam there with him to make sure that his pitapating will be heard better from the higher ground ;) Purist would probably ask to add more weapons, like bows, so maybe the treasure room could host some weapon racks and serve as an armory. But i'm tired of all these what-ifs ;) Even the front of the box is so lovely i don't mind that clearly jungle-themed Islanders Palace is located in a desert like volcanin envirenment, this paradox actually makes it even more overhelming visually, rather than if it would have some accurate landscape behind. And that's how the background looked with all classic Islander sets, so we can't pick on that ;) And those pics from the catalog... i mean... i must admit i was confused if this wasn't a post about some old Islanders set, that ended in this part of the forum by mistake. And to say more, this might be the best Islanders set ever, especially that i never realy liked them that much, i'd totaly prefer to own this one, rather than the huge iconic Enchanted Island. This one is just MORE LEGO, more classic, more charming. So i do hope we'll see more stuff like this from You soon!
-
I see a lot of hard work and planning here, but as with many contests presentation is quite important on the path to success, and all that background blurs the whole impression in my own opinion, especialy on that first photo and that first pic is usualy the most important of them all, as most people tend not to scroll down the whole thing. So, as we've seen plenty of simple designs in this event that win a lot of pints thanx to their presentation, this one is in the category of those that could loose attention because of the ways it's presented. But then again, if a reviewer is focused he/she will find ways to judge it properly. My favorite part of Your project, and i do think it absolutely stands out, is this sicrular tower! Briliant. Glad that You came up with this idea, and happy You've managed to construct one sucesfuly. I think that it could use a rotating cannon tho. As for minifigs, i'd give a tricorn hat to that officer to make him more distinctive, and offering different kinds of clothing in lego sets is always a plus. But its up to You. I acutally like the guy. The same i'd switch that blue pirate into someone with different colors, to differentiate him from those army guys, right now he looks like a militia ;) Honestly, there's a lot of blue in here. Even the boat is blue, and it screams to me that it should be red to bring more color diversity ;) About the structure. I think that the lower part of it could use some more life. You've mentioned that it it's about simplicity in here and that possibilities of playing with it are endless, and i agree, little boys or big boys will always find ways to enjoy it, but then again every lego set, especially a quite big lego set, should be a stand alone. So maybe there could be some upgrades. I see that there's plenty of weapon racks, and this is a good idea, but they could be moved to different areas to make them more visible, as right now they are kinda hidden. I'd say adding a cage with a pirate skeleton would be a nice touch somewhere on the left side could be a nice touch, to scare any possible invaders. If a skeleton cage would be too big, then maybe a small crane, or a podium for a book to record every vessel trying to enter that location could be a nice bonus. Also, as with most seaside lego sets, the problem is water. It looks fine for someone with imagination, but it could use bigger baseplates with crystal blue water rather than dark shade that You went for.
-
Glad i could help and i hope i won't cause any trouble for You with my thoughts ;) Staying in the contest is the most important thing :) Plus i guess there's be plenty of people who would like this cannon anyway. Everyone got a different taste after all. Well, we will see what will come up in the end :)
-
WOW! That's SOME update! :) I realy envy You, even without those waves all that water and color differences within it required so much work and planning, and the waves, and those dolphins, having an idea to have them jump is crazy, and making the shark turn while doing his jump is just insane! My compliments on achieving that look. And then there those crossed palm trees and turtles hatching from the egg, and a wooden walkway and a skeleton. Trully, all of it is so charming. Your characters, the second island, that toucan sitting on the top of a tree and even those red elements on that boat! Simple detail of weird color choosing, but how it stands out! Brilliant. But, it's brilliant as diorama :) If it was a set to play with and to be sold it would surely require some changes. I may think about them if only i will pick up my jaw from the floor and manage to put it in place ;) But honestly, i'd say all it would require to make it more sellable would be a different simpler baseplate, for both islands and maybe for that wooden pathway between them ( unless those boards would just float there and would stay in place somehow ) plus some of the animals would have to be ditched too, few turtles and dolphins i guess. Everything else could stay just how it is. Maybe someone could argue that pirates could use more weapons, but witch so much possibilities within this set, why do we even need to think about providing arms? ;) Then again, screw the cost! ;) It's so lovely i'd love to keep all the animals ;)

It looks charming, but I'd either use a larger baseplate for that dock or ditch the dock to make room for a larger beach as it's kinda weird the way it is. Don't get me wrong, it's still playble, it looks 90s, it's quite attractive actually, but to be honest the best photo in this presentation is the last one, and i like it from the back perspective :) But looking at the back, how does Your pirate get on top of that structure? Surely he's a physically fit fellow and can climb up, but maybe he could use a small ladder just in case someone else would like to take a look at that view too? ;) One other thing, is this a case of the "door to small to fit the character without bending or hitting it? ;) It seems kinda low for this guy in a hat to be able to go trough it with his hat on ;)

Impressive set, very well made! My first quick impression tho it that it's kinda blurry the way it;s presented. I'd propose to change that background from blue to something different, green, blue, orange, whatever, just so that Your creation would look more clear and would stand out, right now it's all one big stew for me, i need to sharpen my eyes to get all the details and inspect how it looks as a whole ;) May i suggest that You could use some sand or plant elements to cut those rocks from water? When i compare those two parts of Your set - the island with a house and that island with the statue, it's hard not to reflect on the fact that Your rock kinda blends with it's aquatic surrounding. So i would add some floral or sandy element to make it stand out from the water. Also, as there's so much happening and it's a big set indeed, i'd prefer to switch few pieces for more minifigs. I mean, at first i was quite sure there would be some pirates or soldiers trapped inside that net trap, instead of crabs and maybe that's an idea. Right now the whole place look kinda dull realy. And i believe simple changes such as placing fire under that fish rack could bring more life into it. I'm not sure if it's not too browny at the same time. There's so many of such elements that they do take attention from Your island/s which should be the main dish. And i'm not a fan of that bridge, so maybe it could be replaced by some rocky crossing? I've read that some tribesmen used this sort of a bridge, were there was a narrow walk way for feet, but there was also a line one had to hold on to to cross to the other side. Not sure if it would make much sense since Your islanders surely must carry all those offerings for their goods somehow, but it;s just a thing i'd like to see in a Lego set someday and i think it would look better in here. Well, anyting else instead if that strange hollow bridge would be better in my honest opinion ;) As for the statue, You said You wanted to go full color with this set, so maybe she could use bit more colorful elements too? Like diamonds for eyes and bones for teets perhaps? And as the statue is quite big, is there some secret compartment inside it? Looking at those round elements i got a feeling it could be openable?

Can;t wait to see the comic book :) And Sea Wolf is a nice name for a ship, wonder if You will make a use of it in Your story :)
