  1. The Balrog would probably be an ugly mold like the goblin king or troll; let's get those Gondor soldiers :D +1 Osgiliath
  2. I'm currently working on a ship for GNAR, but it's gone through several iterations; I'm not convinced with the results yet. I've got several ideas for SG and I want to expand the tower of wizardry introduced in the minigate build, which will probably be a build for each floor (interior).
  3. The MOC is great, specially after so many years, but the photography is even better!
  4. Only the first tail: submitting a city gate so it can be "canon", for that the deadline is the 31st of this month. You have until the end of July for any builds related to Sultan's Gate tho, to enter the city competition (not the gate).
  5. Osgiliath. Yes, grey ruins blahblah, but Gondor soldierszzz (also, if they'd release another wave, in my mind, we'd get Eowyn in Pelennor anyway)
  6. It is just the prologue, the narrative that leads to the actual challenge.
  7. Remember that while the deadline for the gate is March 31st, you can build additional Sultan's Gate builds until July 31st.
  8. I'm actually surprised there aren't masonry bricks in Tan and Dark Red already, since every second house here is made of bricks of either color :D And apparently small cups are better value per piece, if you take the time to stuff them, because they are wider. I don't really think I want to do that again, takes too much time to squeeze a bunch more bricks. Next time I'll go for a "cross-like" plate/brick structure in the middle of a tall cup.
  9. So I was in Hamburg yesterday and it was my first time with the PAB wall; quite fun actually! I decided to check how much I could fit in a small cup and this is what I got: 583 pieces total, with 150 pallisade tan bricks :)
  10. The exact same problem I'm having with the ship :P
  11. Nice! All the different "textured" bricks give a good impression of "built on top of ruins"
  12. Thanks! Terrain changes are definitely what I'm the least happy with, not only at the top, but also with the greenery at the bottom. I do not really have a solution for the top, besides perhaps baby bows at the edge in brown/tan along with 1x1 round bricks, but meh, and I didn't really have that much space at the edge, because I wanted the towers to be almost at the edge. I'm happy with the profile bricks, I think they work well with delivering the feeling of "built on top of the old" that we are looking for in Sultan's Gate. Thanks! Thanks! Can't wait to see your gate, but it would be insane to expect a cliff of that height with the gates at the top at minifig scale, that would need a gargantuan build. Thanks! Thanks!
  13. Well, your builders are probably going to freeze or get drunk on mead!
  14. Sitting atop the Great Escarpment, at the northern edge of Kaliphlin and overlooking the main trade route between Mitgardia and Nocturnus, the city of Sultan's Gate has been recently revitalized by the ruling council of Kaliphlin. Building upon the ruins of the once proud city, it has been restored to impress travelers and intimidate armies advancing from the North, a much needed measure in these dark times. Should any enemy be foolish enough to march against Sultan's Gate, they will first have to face the narrow and winding path up the Escarpment, that only allows two abreast. If they are lucky enough to make it to the top, they will be flanked by the two main towers, that do not allow easy passage East or West, and from where defenders can rain death on them. The bazaar, with it's distinguishable violet dome, and the tower of wizardry, the tallest building in Sultan's Gate, can be seen peeking out from behind the city walls, the rest of buildings too short to raise above the level of the imposing walls. This build has certainly changed coats often during its story, as it was supposed to be a regular minifig scale of just the gate. But it soon became apparent I wouldn't have enough bricks for what I wanted, so I decided to try my hand at micro. The advantage of that, tho, is that I could include the path up the escarpment, so those not familiar with the community challenge learn more about the location. It also allowed me to include a small Orcan settlement, who have relatively recently been allowed to inhabit the area. C&C will be greatly appreciated, as this is my first micro, but I've always been fascinated by the "format". I would also like to claim the following UoP DoH credits (2 total): [General Building] Microscale, [Geography] Mountains or cliffs
  15. +1 for manufacturing, like the logging camp it's just what the entire build is about
  16. I feel like with the amount of Mitgardian builders, we each need to build 4 ships or so to rival their fleet :D :D
  17. I think kabel was referring that the cellar was either in tan (and no profile bricks exist in tan) or dark tan (and dark tan arches are rare). So the cellar is dark tan. For further reference, these are the sets with dark tan arches (http://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-6024122)
  18. I don't think any of the entries are supposed to be the official result of the war, and all entries are, in fact, supposed to have taken place. What the result means is, after all the battles, tribes recruited and defensive structures, the Black Spire came out victorious (but lost some battles too), and now controls the most part of former Nocturnus.
  19. Nice build, +1 on the claim
  20. I liked the tidbit about regrowing the forest. +1 on that claim, it's just what the whole scene is about :D
  21. I was just adding to mrc6pd's answer :P and as he says, there's probably going to be a similar system for Book II, for which the 2nd challenge is coming up soon
  22. Good use of those white leaves, nice interiors and excellent execution of that particular roofing technique! +1 to the claims If anything, I'd have made the border in a different color, so the grey wasn't so predominant on the bottom half
  23. Must be a hard place to live in! +1 on the claims
  24. You can always edit your signature tho, that's customizable individually
