It seems that's the general feeling, given how cheap current PUp hubs are currently on BrickLink (which tends to price stuff based on supply and demand).

I remember one of the many Millennium Falcons (don't remember which) had a sticker on the truncated cone that formed its cockpit, and it was a source of much dislike from fans. Is that part considered a surface that curves in two axes? -

The L motor is 1 module longer than the M, and has no anti-studs underneath (almost useless for Technic, but useful for System applications like the Roller Coaster). Also, on S@H the L motor is more expensive than the M, more expensive than even the XL. -

I believe someone made a helicopter C-model of the 42069, and used the wheel arches as a fenestron casing, but indeed they'd be too big (or the helicopter too small) for engine cowlings. -

Can your device find the SBrick from the official SBrick app? What device and OS version are you using?- 1,316 replies

Thanks for the update! I have good news and bad news: the bad news is that, even after the update, the Shield still can't find the PUp hub in the Devices screen. The good news is that I installed the official PUp app from LEGO and it can't find the hub either, which means the problem is with the tablet and not your app. What's weird is that the hub is visible in the tablet's BT search screen (albeit refusing pairing), but that's it.- 1,316 replies

Sets that don't look like real vehicles aren't necessarily bad: take, for example, the 8852, which is long overdue for a modern update. -
[APP] BrickController2
AVCampos replied to imurvai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've just had a go configuring again the app for my models, since I had uninstalled it to install it from the Play Store (is there a way to save, load and transfer profiles?), and trying running it simultaneously with my action camera app (to have a live view from FExplorer). I must say the new logarithmic behaviour is a godsend for the dreadful dead zones on the analogue sticks of these cheap Chinese gamepads, thank you very much for that! Now that I bought a telescopic gamepad, I tried using my tablet (NVIDIA Shield K1, with Android 7.0) with BC2, and curiously I'm unable to find any SBricks or PUp hubs with it. This is strange because it can find the SBrick in the the official SBrick app and in the old SBrickController (but also not in BC1), and my LG V20, which runs the same version of Android, works without problems.- 1,316 replies

I've just done some live driving with the Batmobile (instead of holding it in place) and tried some sudden full forward/reverse kicks to try to reproduce the LEGO app's predefined moves. And indeed, the official app can make the Batmobile do more sudden starts/stops (i.e. better wheelies). This means that the PUp protocol is definitely able to handle synchronised outputs, which in turn means that, once TLG publishes the protocol, you should be able to improve your app. Anyway, driving stick (pun intended), even as it is, is waaay better than touchscreen controls, congratulations on all the work you have had!- 1,316 replies

AVCampos replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The PUp protocol allows for 4 outputs (for example, the Boost hub has 2 internal and 2 external), and TLG has been listening to fans' concerns and suggestions regarding it. I believe they're also considering a port multiplexer to address the lack of stackability. So, I wouldn't be surprised either if PUp on Technic is taking more time to allow for this feedback. -

However, I find it strange that the 42065 is so recent (in fact, it's still available at the LEGO site, at least for Portugal) and it already gets a similar replacement. I would understand if it used PUp instead of PF, or if it were a wheeled (motor + servo) instead of tracked (motor + motor) vehicle. Uh, actually, when the car is pointing at you, when you push the levers forward it goes towards you instead of away from you, and the lever on your right controls the track that's on your left. -

The fact that it uses radio (in this case Bluetooth) instead of infrared is a big advantage, because it has better range, works outdoors under sunlight, and doesn't require line-of-sight. Both the SBrick and the BuWizz have this advantage without PUp's disadvantages with its non-stackable plug. But I guess the hype is because it's new and can potentially bring new stuff to play with. -

Also price: for example, high price + low parts = PF (or hopefully PUp) -

I also hope. I'm optimistic about the protocol release, since TLG also released the Power Functions protocol. Maybe they're holding it until a Technic variant of PUp gets released to the market. Also, the PUp and Boost hubs (but not WeDo 2.0) have updateable firmware, so a future correction is a real possibility.- 1,316 replies

You can take a look at Vernie from the Boost set for inspiration. -
In terms of price, supermarkets (mainly Continente and Jumbo) are the best choice. In fact, as we approach Christmas, they're starting to expand their toy sections and making available a larger variety of sets; for example, today was the first time when I saw the 42078 Mack Anthem and the 42081 Volvo ZEUX at Jumbo. For variety, department stores like Toys'R'Us, El Corte Inglés and Fnac are usually better. ECI and Fnac prices are often OK-ish, but TrU is usually very expensive. If you want a sample of everything, your best bet is the Colombo mall, which has a Continente, a Fnac and a TrU. Almada Forum has a Jumbo and also a Fnac and a TrU, but it's a little further away from Lisbon.

[APP] BrickController2
AVCampos replied to imurvai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Now it works, good job! I'm pleased to report that it finds, connects to, and successfully controls the 76112 Batmobile. However, compared to the previous SBrickController and BrickController, the new app has a significant latency in the controls, and if a button is configured to power two outputs, they don't activate at the same time. In the case of tank-link vehicles like the Batmobile or my FExplorer, this means the vehicle turns slightly before moving or stopping. This happens not only with PUp, but also with SBrick (I don't have BuWizz and didn't test with PF). Here is a video of this behaviour: I don't think the PUp controller is a Bluetooth HID device; what I know, from talking with @MajorAlvega, is that the PUp hub behaves as a BT slave when it connects to a phone/tablet, and as a master when connecting to a PUp controller. Also, here's a suggestion for another, less useful functionality: to change the colour of the PUp hub's LED via buttons. Pimpin'!- 1,316 replies

Cool! I was thinking about asking whether PUp could be supported, but you answered before I asked. I tried the app (LG V20 on Android 7.0), and it asked me for location access, saying that it's required for Bluetooth. That's weird, as neither SBrickController nor BrickController 1 asked that. Anyway, once I granted location access, the app started as expected. The controller tester works well, detecting all inputs. A problem happens when adding a controller action to a profile: pressing a button or moving a stick crashes the app. When I restart the app, the action I tried appears on the profile, but I can't edit it (i.e. assign an action), only delete it. Later I intend to test on my other devices (NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1 on 7.0, Alcatel One Touch Pop C7 on 4.4.3, LG G2 on 5.0, and Sony Xperia Z1 Compact on 5.0) and with a different controller, to see if there's any difference.- 1,316 replies

The 42030, 42053, 42063, 42078 and 42081 all have B-models. The 8110 and the 42054 also have them, kinda. -

Didn't he sell his designs to that Chinese company? I don't think that'd bode well for his job prospects at TLG. -
Well, in that case I guess we'll have to wait until @imurvai adds PUp support in Brick Controller...

If you control the motor from the app using the Batmobile profile, that should be possible.
