  1. The Cat's inventory in the instructions book also mentions both Gen2 and Gen3 black pins, but the set itself only has Gen3.
  2. No, it's a different interference. Unlike analogue 27 MHz, you can't hijack control of another hub, but instead useful range will decrease. I have a Wi-Fi-controlled drone (2.4 GHz), which flew very well at an event of my LUG during set-up. But, with the crowded event, full of people and their phones with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth activated, I quickly gave up on having the drone fly more than about 2 metres away.
  3. I'd bet it's cheaper due to easily available off-the-shelf components, something that didn't happen as much in 2007 when PF appeared, and the lack of certification fees. No, because there are a lot of different protocols that use 2.4 GHz. It's the same reason why you usually can't use an IR TV remote of one brand to control a TV of another brand.
  4. Cool, thanks! Indeed there doesn't seem to be any photodiode, required to receive IR, at the top of the board. It doesn't require line-of-sight and is immune to sunlight, but isn't as cheap, can be subjected to other kinds of interference (2.4 GHz is also used by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, drones, cordless phones, microwaves, etc.), and in theory the manufacturer needs certification for compliance.
  5. Can you take a screwdriver to the transmitter or receiver? I think everyone here would like to take a peek inside.
  6. Under direct sunlight, there's really nothing much IR can do. Does the Chinese system really use IR, or is it radio?
  7. And even the ripper can be easily fixed, as per Sariel's video.
  8. To test your controller's modes, you should use BC2's "Controller" screen, not "Device".
  9. Actually there is some interesting and solid geometry used, for example on the blade and the ripper.
  10. Which other big set from this year did he work on?
  11. OK, let's discuss stickers vs. prints instead. After that, B-models. And then direct-drive functions vs. single-motor gearboxes. Finally, for dessert, hiding mechanisms vs. skeletal structures. All while accusing LEGO designers of laziness. I'm really setting myself up for a ban, I guess.
  12. If it doesn't have a hardware selector to switch between iOS and Android, I don't know what button combinations to use. Its product page has a downloadable manual, maybe it shows there how to switch?
  13. I just had that very same question yesterday while building a set... Turns out they were intentionally left over.
  14. I have an iPega 9055, which works well with BC2 and all the Android devices I tested it with. It has an "iOS/Android" switch, which I keep set to "Android"; does yours have something like that, or a button combination to switch modes?
  15. Besides those two, and since I see sets more as "technique tutorials" and "raw material for MOCs", I also look forward to New Elementary's reviews.
  16. Ah no, that's unacceptable! That colour scheme is totally military! Bone white and blood red? Won't somebody please think of the children?! (just kidding, the colours are very nice and I just wanted to send some barbs towards TLG)
  17. I'm still not sure if the Prime hub (used in 51515 and 45678) uses standard Bluetooth instead of BLE like the other PUp hubs.
  18. But not all sets are equally lime green.
  19. The embargo for review publishing is 10th of September, so we'll have to wait for his and everybody else's reviews at least until then.
  20. Yes, the Raptor's manual also shows a prototype model, and one without the new part colours introduced in the set.
  21. Yes, and people still complained about it. Also about how simplistic the drivetrain was, with each motor practically directly connected to its track. People nowadays see it in a more positive light (just like they do with almost all sets), and I'm sure the 42131 will be the same when the time comes for a new Technic bulldozer.
