  1. Well, LDraw is NO software, it are ONLY the parts, so you need software like MLcad or SR3D Builder to use them SR3D Builder installs them automaticly btw.
  2. I did a quick search and it seems there are many on ebay. Maybe you can buy some there?
  3. The wikipedia article (that DLuders linked) mostly explains how it works. You don't neccesarily need to know how it works. You don't know how LDD works either, do you? I think you just have to try it at least, than yuo can make the final decision. I recommend the free (it has a paid version too) sr3d builder,as it is one fo the best cads. You have to "learn" a bit how it works, but it's not difficult at all! I can help you if you want, but the manual on the website is also very helpful. But of course the final decision is yours, personally I would recommend LDraw, but there are also many people who like LDD more.
  4. It is possible (as is exporting to LDraw), but you need an extra file (I can't find the topic on the forum now, but it should be somewhere around here). It is however not very accurate; many bricks are not recognized or placed incorrectly
  5. LDraw is a collection of parts made by the Lego community. It is not useable with LDD (which is made by Lego itself), but you have to use it with other software e.g. the well known MLcad or the better (more ldd like) SR3D Builder. It is also often used as a term to adres the whole set of software such as MLcad, LDview, Lpub etc. The advantages of LDraw are that it has waaaaay more parts than LDD has. Especially older parts. In combinatoin with e.g. SR3D Builder, it is also more `proffesional` than LDD. If you need more advice, feel free to ask
  6. I have to partly agree with you. The builders also have to spend money and time for their bricks and making the instructions. So, they want somethings more than only many good compliments. I do understand why they ask a small amount of money. And why would you bother if you can build a great moc with that instructions? And btw, there are still many, many builders who have free instructions, fo rexample, take a look at rebrickable. But I really like the builders who have some instructions for free, and some instructions paid. Lego sets aren't free either, are they?
  7. We thought about that, but we thought it was better not to do, so we we really get the people that visit this forum by theirself. That are the people that can give valuable information, not the ones who just pop by because there was something on he frontpage
  8. There is only 1 day left.... So, if you want to help is and improve the forum, please fill in the survey Thanks!
  9. Well, the complete story in steps: I opened a previous made (about a 2 months old) file I changed a few bricks and colors I wanted to save the model with a different name, so I clicked save as I entered the name of the file I hit "save" and then I recieved the message (I don't know exactly what is was, it was something like "there's nothing to save") I looked at my files to see both the old and the new file were disappeared, only leaving a .BAK file of the old model. I have a: Windows 7 PC 8GB DDR3 RAM a new 500GB hard disk CPU: AMD AMD Phenomâ„¢ II X4 960T Processor ASRock 870 Extreme3 R2.0 [motherboard] AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series [graphics card] (a little too much information? )
  10. That's weird. I had something similair today; I wanted to save a model, so the popup window came on the screen, I entered a name, clicked save and then there came a dialog window "nothing to save" and the application closed itself, leaving only the .BAK file*.... Luckily it was a small model with only a few parts *I was able to use the .BAK file as a .l3b file
  11. That's a funny bug
  12. I made a quick example (I used natesroom's 6030 set example) to demonstrate the idea: You can download the model here. I don't know if I used the correct colors (old brown dark and light gray), because I'm not really familiar with LDD, only wih LDraw.
  13. That bike looks very good. I like how "clean" it looks; many details, but less enough to not make it look messy
  14. In my opinion you (natesroom) may start such a topic. A good example is this one. It was just someone's idea, and there were quite some members who created and uploaded models. Of course, nobody knows if this will be such a succes
  15. No, it is just me and Calabar (and maybe superkalle) who made some rules to keep the 2 indexes not too messy I think the original reason to don't accept these (or at least don't put them in the index), was because nobody is able to be 100% sure if the model is correctly build; there are only 1 or 2 pictures available.
  16. Ok.... You mean that kind of alternates. Well, strictly they are not allowed in the LDD or LDraw topics, because there are no instructions available. I'm not sure, but I think there were some discussions about accpeting this or not. Now they are not accepted, so there's not really a topic for this. Btw; also a good example are the ideas in the instrcution booklets of "Designer Sets". The booklets include some instructions for some models, but also many ideas (shown with a lightbulb).
  17. A little set that I accidently forgot to upload a while back. I hope to finish some big models in the next days (I'm currently slowly working, I'm very busy this week). 7607 - Butterfly - Creator No errors. Download here
  18. Maybe you can give an example of the alternates you mean?
  19. Yes, it will be something with wheels No, there is no news yet. There was a little dicussion about it here.
  20. We have some good things to think about, but more ideas and thoughts area always better. So if you haven't filled the survey yet and you want to help us; please fill in the survey Thanks!
  21. If there are instructions for alternate models (which need to have official instructions!!), you are may just to post them in the normal LDD sets topic or LDraw sets topic There are already mnay alternates in that databases (although mostly of new sets). If you take a look at one of the indexes, you can somtimes see an A, B, C etc. behind a model's name, that are different alternates
  22. That one looks pretty nice, especially for such an old set. But I don't understand why it has 2 front windows
  23. Statistics for last release Records added between: November 25, 2012 and December 2, 2012 Number of sets: 24 ...whereof duplicates: 1 ...whereof alternatives: 9 ...whereof incomplete: 0 ...whereof irregular: 0 Top contributors C3POwen - 14 sets TotalyWicked - 7 sets legolijntje - 2 sets Plastic Nurak - 1 sets There is an error in the index generating, so after many records, there is for some reason < >. It doesn't mean anything! We'll look into it...
  24. That minifigure at the start of each book is so cute
  25. Hi, welcome to the LDD forum According to the rules, you should post your model in the correct theme subforum ( in this case, the special themes forum), not in this subforum. I'm sure a mod will move your topic to the right forum Anyway, that looks like a nice detailed car. Do you have more images, maybe from the inside of the car?
