Now I know why S@H is out of gray tiles!!!

Just picked up another 10026 on ebay for $119 + free post... This one had the stickers in much better condition than my other one.

How do you display your models? With or without stickers?
neoconagenda replied to hallonsylt's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I always build without and decide later to use them. Some sets look fine without them and some really need them but that is completely your choice. -
My build times are pretty fast when I am left alone. I recently built the Volvo loader over approx 8 hours including sorting time. The slowest set for me to get through was the Death Star II - about 12 hours total. My speed did get me in trouble on the Volvo and I only found the mistake when I finished it... The front and rear drive were moving opposite of each other. That was a challange to remove and flip the drive without having to rip half the set apart... Point is that fast can get you in trouble!

Best current set to start out on bricklinkink the ISD 10300 ?

Just watch ebay daily... Before I finally got one at a good price I saw partial sets come up from time to time. If you have a lot of patience you can find them for a reasonable price. -

I know that the scans you download are not what I would call production quality so spending a lot of money printing them on high quality stock might be a waste of time. I wish you luck with this project!

Death Star II - The most frustrating set to date
neoconagenda replied to neoconagenda's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sorry to bump... I am having serious issues when moving this set. I have seen people put it on large base plates, and as mentioned above I have secured the two sections from sliding out. I was thinking of rigging it up with removable cables or heavy string that would run down the center and attach to the cross section in the middle. This would allow me to remove the dish at the top and support it from the top down. Does anyone foresee issues with the ability of the set to support itself from this location? -
75095 UCS TIE Fighter - Post build thoughts

I had to go measure the wings and there is a slim difference between the top and bottom. My Slave 1 also has the same slight bend. -

I tried to post a pic of it next to the DSII but it tells me that upload is not allowed... Any clues as to why? -
I have to preface this with the fact that I was never going to buy this set. It was a gift and sat in the box because I had such negative feelings towards it. The reason was that the designer strayed so far from the previous renditions that it did not "fit" in with the others. Basically his creativity clashed with my version of reality and I was not going to give the set another thought. Flash forward through getting the set and finally building it... I rarely do a complete 180 on such things especially when I have developed strong views on them. This is one of those times. I was completely impressed with the build up of the wings/foils. The spacing of the studs and plates gives a very nice effect. Plus they are solid. In fact the whole ship is solid. You really can swoosh this thing if you want to. The stand is also great for showing all sides of it. Plenty has been said about this set in other reviews. I just want to say that if you are on the fence about this set, or like me and completely despised it, please give it a second look. It really is a fun build with impressive techniques throughout.

I have just wrapped up building the 10143 and I can say without question that this build was a challenge. There are a myriad of issues people have already mentioned but for me the biggest headaches were keeping up with brick placement on the two unfinished sections, attachment of the middle ring, and the seemingly random dropping (to the floor) of the lower unfinished section. I solved the latter with strategically placed zip ties. While probably frowned on at least the bottom section won't fall off again. I am very satisfied with being able to build the set after putting it off for a while but it takes first place IMO for having the most issues by fault of design. I tried to upload pics of the zip ties but I can't upload to the site for some reason...

Target online and their eBay store have the Volvo loader on sale for $219... -
Sorry to hear that you must sale. I agree with the previous statement about fast money vs more money. Finding an AFOL that can afford the collection AND does not already have part of it is going to be hard. In order to get someone like me to buy another 8043 or MKII it would have to be at a deep discount. Plus if you sale on an auction site you have to pay an additional 10% or so fee. I hope you can afford to sale them off as sets as to retain most of your invesrtment. One of the ways I justify the cost of this hobby is that there is a value of the sets on the collectors market, but I have always considered the fact that I may never get what the "market" claims them to be worth. Maybe you will find a local buyer so you can avoid shipping. Good Luck!!!

BrickLinking (another) 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon
neoconagenda replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have been looking over the last day or so and this is doable but when I factor in the value of my time its almost as cheap to buy a BL set. But you cant really value your time if you are doing something fun... Either way if and when I do start this I have a great source of information right here!!!- 290 replies

I see from time to time people wishing for things like a UCS Ghost and Phantom. While I agree that these would be awesome it seems to me that TLG stays close to the OT for UCS sets. I think this is due to AFOL's being much more fond of the OT than the other variants. Just some random thoughts...

BrickLinking (another) 10179 UCS Millennium Falcon
neoconagenda replied to Lobot's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Of all the parts that TLG has ceased production on the gray on gray levers are the ones that puzzle me the most... So many times I see new sets and think how much better they would look with those gray levers. I get the mast, the dish, and the red plate being out of production... Anyway I have given up on BL'ing this set so I have tons of respect for those that do it.- 290 replies
