It's been a while since I've built a tank model. This time I wanted it to look accurate and perform well. You'll be the judges of looks, but I dare to assume that ability to cross 22 cm wide trenches, climb 9 cm tall vertical obstacles and ascend a 31° slope counts as decent performance. Not to mention that the hull is built partially upside-down, and includes partial interior based on that of the original tank.

Mclaren P1 Hypercar MOC
Sariel replied to madcow's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I beg to differ. If you look at P1's blueprint, you will notice that the hood's height is at least equal, or even greater than the height of the front end (the distance from the bottom of the front end to the edge of the "nose"). Now, in this model the front end looks to be 5 studs high while the hood is 1 stud high. There's a name for it: wrong proportions. -

Fair enough, it's inclined by 1 stud, therefore almost flat. -

It's not bad but I wonder why your model has a completely flat hood whereas real P1's hood is clearly inclined: -
Third B-model of the 2H2017 is yet another "vehicle" (so helpful of LEGO to tell us that, now nobody will mistake it for a building ;) ). While it's the smallest of the three, I think it's quite interesting and good-looking, even if many of A-model's pieces are left unused and the functions are largely similar to those of the A-model.

Thanks, I'm not sure if my spoken English is sufficiently good. I think there are many European builders with broad experience, good voices and decent English.

I think the crane's problem is that it's difficult to make it controlled from a distance and foldable at the same time. It's doable, but would require some complex connections requiring pieces this set doesn't have. And I believe it's possible to add a gear wheel at the crane's base to rotate it by a know when in upright position.

[VIDEO REVIEW] TrixBrix: custom LEGO-compatible train tracks
Sariel replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I don't know, I don't follow EB that much, and I'm happy to review 4DBrix products as well. -
Here's my extensive review of just a few of the many custom LEGO-compatible train tracks made by TrixBrix (www.trixbrix.eu). I especially like the incline supports:

I wouldn't be so quick to compare Porsche with the 42070. They're both big, but Porsche recreates an existing car from a famous brand and comes with a premium quality box and instructions book. 42070 is just a large truck with some flashy colors. It's not going to appeal to car enthusiasts, Porsche freaks etc.
-
So a review always has to be positive? :) Sorry, but I don't think your arguments hold up: - it's smaller than 42055 for example, and than a number of other existing sets. Hell, it's got less pieces but higher price than 42069. - more wheels? 42043 has twice as many. Also, these aren't new wheels, we already got them from the much cheaper and much better Claas Xerion. - yes, larger price is what we always expect from LEGO. Why make sets better or more complex when you can just raise the prices ;) - I will be extra grateful for explaining how is leaving roughly 1/4 of the A-model's pieces completely unused related to effort and not laziness :)

Hard to pick one definite favorite, but I dream of getting the Control Center 2 one day...

If you thought the 42070 A-model was bad, the B-model is here to convince you it was actually pretty good. In fact, it seems to have been built solely for that purpose:

Thanks Jim! just one tiny correction: the book does not cover every electric motor ever made by LEGO. Some very old motors predating the 9V system and some Trains motors have been omitted due to their extreme rarity.

[VIDEO REVIEW] 10258: London bus
Sariel replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The tires are solid rubber. The set comes from Creator line, not Ideas line, so it probably had nothing to do whatsoever with the project you've mentioned. -
I guess this belongs here, since we don't have a specific forum section for Creator cars and it looks Model Team-ish enough. I present you the bus that suffers from subpar accuracy (the front end looks atrocious) and marketing bull...t (no, it's NOT built at the same scale as other Creator cars), and yet manages to look really, really good on a shelf:
-
Yes, I think it's a good starter set - plenty of wheels and even transmission pieces. I was just disappointed that there are no new pieces nor pieces in new colors whatsoever.
-
No, it's a perfectly regular 24t gear. You're forgetting that the yellow connector is less than 1 full stud thick around the axle hole. I've used it with 24t gear myself many times, it's a fairly standard combination of pieces.

The smallest of the 2H2017 Technic set is, in most aspects, a pleasant surprise. I was expecting something dead simple, but got something ambitious and complex instead, with a brilliant steering system and 2 boom functions that can be easily motorized. Additionally, I like how normal and realistic it looks compared to 42070 and 42069. It's a pretty, functional, well-designed set and it's delightful to steer. On the underside, 42068 contains literally zero new pieces or pieces in new colors, leaving you little reason to buy it - chances are, you can build it with the pieces you already own. And some parts feel like a few corners have been cut.
