Congrats! What's the difference between a regulator and a moderator? Same thing?

There are 3 or 4 LEGO stores within two hours of me, and the closest one is about half an hour from me. The closest store is one of the stores that still sell damaged LEGO sets, so I always check out the sale section. I recently picked up the Pet Shop with a nice discount, but I do have to be careful not to buy everything in the sale section. They have some pretty good stuff sometimes.

Maybe it's supposed to be a turkey? Thanksgiving is a great American holiday.

Of the two cars pictured in the original post, I prefer the bodywork on the TLG model. Generally speaking though, I like full body models, but a design that looks good is difficult to pull off on larger scale models. Paul Boratko did a fine job his Vampire GT, and I've seen a few other nice, full body models as well.

I grew up in the Philippines, but until a few months ago, I was in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I'm currently in southern California. Be sure to check out NCLUG while you're in NC. They're a great LEGO group that has monthly meetings in Raleigh, as well as other events during the year.

Yeah, I like that the pivot point is so close to the wheel. The moc I'm working on has a drive and steer axle with dual tires on each side. The closer the pivot point to the tire is, the better. I don't have that much of my LEGO with me at the moment, so I've just been using MLCAD to design my moc. I haven't checked to see if any of the special hub pieces fit those wheels, so it's nice to see that the new hub pieces may be a good solution.

Thanks for posting this! I'm working on a new project that has 4wd and uses those wheels. I've been wondering how well the new hubs fit in those wheels, and it looks like they fit better than I would have thought. Steering angle isn't too bad either.

Definitely go! My first event was Brickfair DC in 2009. It was a blast. I had just recently returned from my dark ages, and had my first new moc on display there. I didn't know anybody, nor was I part of any LUG. It was at the event that I met some AFOLs from my state, and they invited me to a LUG meeting. I've been hanging out with them since, and it makes the shows even more enjoyable when you have a great group to hang with. It can be cheaper too, since the cost of hotels, etc can be split. My favorite part of the shows is the display time when the doors open to the public. I build mostly remote controlled Technic stuff, so it's always great to see the kid's (and adult's) reactions to the moving LEGOs. The behind the scenes stuff can be fun as well, whether you are watching or participating. Activities vary a bit between shows, but there are usually games, presentations (both by AFOLs and sometimes LEGO staff), building opportunities, and there are usually some late gatherings that involve adult beverages. My favorite game I've seen was the boat race at Brickworld Chicago. BrickCon in Seattle includes a really nice lunch (or was it dinner?...can't remember). Events usually have door prizes too, although some much more than others. I have never had an issue with theft, although I don't display things with pricey pieces or minifies. I've never heard of whole mocs walking off. Some shows I've been to has had rent-a-cops on hand to keep an eye on stuff. I find the general public surprisingly respectful with our mocs, and I haven't really had any problems with the public messing with my mocs, other than maybe 1 or 2 kids. I have never shipped mocs by mail, but I know there are people that do. A couple years ago, I flew out to BrickCon and checked a large moc. That was probably a bit of a risk, but it worked fine both ways. I made sure I put lots of address labels on my suitcase. As far as logistics go, just make sure you understand the registration cutoff dates. Some events have a different cutoff date for registering mocs and registering for the event. Everything else is just hotels, airfare, rental cars, food, etc... I have never not brought a moc to an event, nor have I ever regretted bringing something. As Technic builder, I find certain types of mocs attract the attendees more than others, but that is fine. The only time I've gotten frustrated at an event was during a LEGO show last year. One of the coordinators dropped the ball on our space requirements, and the theme I was displaying in was extremely tight on space. Me and 3 other guys had a space about 5' x 5' to display our stuff, with my moc being almost 5' wide. The wide table setup made It impossible to chat with the crowd. I'm a laid back guy and usually don't let things get to me, but that situation was frustrating and had me a bit grumpy for a while. It was still a fun event and I don't regret going, but I'm not sure I'll go back as long as they're in the same venue. Since 2009, I've been to 7 major U.S. events and several local shows. They are awesome. I think you will enjoy it, and the events only get better once you get to meet the regular attendees. Yeah, we used to get 30% off, but you are correct, that discount will not be available this year. I know people who have decided not to participate in some event this year because of the lack of a discount. Having a discount was one way to offset the cost of attending a convention. Just my $.02.

That is awesome, and I especially like how it shoots the plane off at the end.

I collect mostly Technic, but I have also started buying modular buidlings and the smaller City sets (trucks and such). Some of the new Hobit sets looks really nice, and I'm a bit tempted to buy a few of them.

If all you want to do is view the mocs and meet some of the builders, then going as part of the general public would be far cheaper. You won't be able to participate in any of the special AFOL events or be eligible for any door prizes, but you will save some money.

We had a topic a few weeks ago about various machinery mocs. Most were PF. Perhaps this thread will help you: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79749 You can't go wrong with a tow truck. It's always nice to see what tow truck designs people come up with. I have 2 different tow trucks I'll be building in the future. Other ideas that haven't been done very much include a garbage truck (side, front, or rear load), scraper, harvester, fork lift, road grader (another project I'm working on), combine, pavement ripper, etc. Google is a great source for ideas. Or, you could build something like a helicopter or airplane. Looking forward to what you come up with.

Well, that's a bummer.

I graduated from college in 2008 with a degree in Geography and a concentration in Geographic Information Systems. I started out in Mechanical Engineering, but the math was killing me, so I switched degrees. I worked for several years transporting wounded soldiers on an Army base. When the company contract expired with no renewal, I lost my job. So, as far as work goes, I'm not doing anything right now. I've been on a long road trip since June (over 22,000 miles so far), and I've been doing some blogging and photography. It has been fantastic, and probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. That being said though, I'm looking forward to settling down again. I've been away from my LEGO way too long.

Sounds like a good idea to me. The aviation forum I frequent uses something similar to label airport codes. If I place my cursor over the airport code, like LAX, then the name of the airport will appear above the airport code, which in this case, would be Los Angeles International Airport. It's a nice feature, especially when somebody is using the airport code for some obscure airport that I've never heard of. Something like that for LEGO set numbers would be pretty handy, IMHO.

That looks like a lot of fun! It's great to see so many talented Technic builders get together in one place. There were some really nice cars there as well, and I really liked the cars built by Jurgen, Mahj, jojotje, and Dirk Klijn. I'd like to see some better pictures of these models. Great video too!
