  1. I'd be up for a thread like that. I don't have any pictures of my childhood creations, but I know I've built my fair share of horrible MOCs.
  2. That's steep. I'd be interested in seeing what the price of this set is in the LEGO stores. I like alot of the parts that come in this set, but I don't think I'd pay $140 for it. No thanks.
  3. Really nice looking Unimog! The colors work together very well. I love those tires too! I really wish LEGO would re-introduce them or make something similar.
  4. I will say that even though I don't care for the Bionicle line much, it (along with Star Wars) pretty much saved the LEGO company in the early to mid 2000s. From a business standpoint, it was a smart move. Without Bionicle, TLG may have been a very different company today, or maybe non-existent. Plus, there are a few useful pieces, like the Bionicle tooth that I used quite a bit in my last moc.
  5. I have a Case Steiger that I built a couple years ago. It's not a quadtrac, but you could replace the wheels with tracks and make a few other changes to get close to a quadtrac. I don't have instructions for it, but you may be able to rebuild much of it based on my pictures:
  6. I like the earlier Technic Star Wars models. I have the Darth Vader set, and I'd love to get the Destroyer Droid and Hailfire Droid models. The Star Wars sets offered some great parts in rare colors. I'm not a huge fan of ball joints used in the arms on some of the models, but otherwise, I liked them.
  7. Ah, ok. LEGO gives discounts when you buy multiple PF parts at once. This isn't really a special, it's just something they have kindly done for a long time now. You have a nice size order there, hence the discount. mobi, sorry about the thread hijack.
  8. Just about anything with the Bionicle or Hero Factory name, although I'm not sure they actually count as Technic.
  9. I got back into LEGO in early 2009, and since then, I think I've spent about $1,400 USD on Technic sets and PF parts, $400 on LUGbulk parts, $300 on Bricklink orders, $300 on Modular Buildings, and around $100 on LEGO City vehicles. Pretty cheap hobby, I think.
  10. There are many great mocs out there, but here are some of my favorites: DHC-6 Twinotter by Marpostma https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6OsDbuZIyY GBC Ball Factory by Akiyuki Vampire GT: by Crowkillers JCB Wheeled Excavator by 696pazuzu:
  11. Thanks for replies! One of these years I'll make it over for a convention.
  12. you could mount one of these on the Unimog. Then use one of these on the trailer. That's what I did on my tractor.
  13. Perhaps you could build a half-track? I'm not sure how well it would work in the snow though.
  14. That would be a brilliant set for LEGO to build. This could be built as a full RC machine with 4 motors: 2 L motors for drive (one at teach axle), and another motor to lower the scraper blade, and the last motor to dump the load. The rotating blades could be driven by one of the L motors that drives the wheels, and it could engage/disengage when scraper blades are lowered/raised. If LEGO designed it with the ability to pick up small LEGO parts like pins and bushings, the playability of this model would be huge! Another option is a front loading trash truck: This could also be a full PF model built with 4 motors and a gearbox. However, the high part count and the PF components would probably make this more expensive than any other Technic set.
  15. I'd say a road grader, forwarder, or forklift would be at the top of my list, but those are also mocs I'm working on too. At the rate I'm going though, LEGO would probably come out with one of these models before I do.
  16. I know what that is like! Well I just thought that was a superb project, and I was curious how it was coming along. I'm looking forward to the finished project!
  17. Hey all, One of these years I'd like to fly over the pond and visit one of the LEGO conventions in Europe. Which one of the European Conventions has the most Technic creations on display? I was just looking through pictures of the FanWelt Convention, and noticed pictures of Bricksonwheels's fantastic trucks, as well as Jennifer Clark's excavator. There were also a handful of Technic creations in the photo album I was looking at. Does FanWelt usually offer this level of Technic models, or should I try to attend some other convention? I just wanted to get you all's opinion. One of these years I'll make it over to meet all you fine European Technic builders. Thanks, Daniel
  18. FYI, Autoblog has this up on their website: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/01/17/r-c-lego-a-team-van-is-triple-geek-cool/
  19. Thanks for the great review! It's impressive to see what the LEGO designers could come up with while using the limited parts selection they had. The pneumatic boom slew is a great function, and I like that both rear axles turn a differential. Where does the weight go? Rear of the superstructure?
  20. Also worth a mention is the 8043 Excavator, which is remote controlled. The part count isn't as high, but it does have 4 motors, 4 LA's, and the associated RC stuff. The 8258 Crane Truck is, IMHO, one of the best sets for anybody just getting into Technic. It's not RC, but it does come with a XL motor, PF switch, 8 wheels, lots of panels, and i believe it has more gears than any other Technic set. If you can get it for a good deal, definitely worth it. There are a couple new models with motors coming later in 2013. One is a pneumatic tow truck, presumably with a motorized compressor, and there is also a large mobile crane with multiple motorized functions operated through a gearbox. If I had to pick between the Unimog and Crawler, I'd easily go for the Unimog. Far superior, IMHO. Welcome to the forum!
