Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
dhc6twinotter replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Can a detective agency fill a 32x32 baseplate? It doesn't seem like there would be a whole lot going on within a detective agency. Maybe a desk or two, some computers, some file cabinets, and a wall full of maps/pictures. I could see this being offered as two 16x32 modulars, one being a detective agency, and the other an apartment or something else. Several weeks ago there were rumors of a modular bank. I'd like to see a bank on the lower two levels, with a detective agency on the third. -
I use a Canon T2i with a 18-135mm lens, and I'm pretty happy with it. I have a lot to learn though, and thanks Jim for the good pointers! I've heard good things about the 50mm prime lens, but I wasn't sure if it was good for shooting LEGO. I'll have to pick one up. I'm very happy with the video quality of my 2Ti. I do wish it had continuous autofocus, but otherwise, the video quality is great. I'd love to pick up the new Canon 70D. I need to improve my lighting. Most of the time I shoot outdoors, but when I get more space, I'd like to set up a photo area inside.

Yeah, I have the FB, GE, and PS still in the boxes. I'll probably be picking up PC and PR in the next few months. TH is more than I want to spend, but I may get it if I find a good deal. I'm pretty happy with with my Technic collection now, and I'll probably be focusing more on the City theme. Problem is I don't really have time to build anything right now...

Best Technic Set
dhc6twinotter replied to Pauger's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd say 8258, 8043, and 42009. 8110 is also pretty good, but not as complex as the three mentioned. -

I lost interest in LEGO around 1999 or 2000. I was busy with last year of high school and college classes in the evenings. Back then, I was more into Town sets, and I didn't like the direction LEGO was going with their Town sets. The sets started losing a lot of detail and looked unrealistic to me, so I lost interest. In 2008, my parents bought me a LEGO set for Christmas, but it was supposed to be sort of a gag gift. I liked what I saw, I've been hooked ever since. Over the last 2 years, I've been traveling extensively and have been away from most of my LEGO collection. I'm back home now, with my LEGO close by, but I'm now back in school and hope to start a new job in October. I hope to have time to build more once I get my new job, but there is a good chance that I will be working long shifts with very little time off. Time will tell.

[MOC] Hot Rod - Lucky 13
dhc6twinotter replied to sm 01's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is a really fantastic moc! You've done an amazing job fitting all the features in the chassis, and at first glance, I didn't notice it was RC. There are some awesome features here as well! Very well done!- 69 replies

Sounds like another fantastic contest! Most of my studded parts are old and in storage under the house, but this contest may be a good reason for me to dust off my old LEGO. I'd kinda like to build a model of my grandfather's old 1947 Ford 2 ton truck that I may be restoring. I have school starting up tomorrow, so there might not be any time for this contest, but we'll see how busy I end up being.

[MOC] Cafe Racer
dhc6twinotter replied to Chapachuk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is a very nice motorbike, and I've always been a bit partial to the cafe racer style (and bobber style). -
Here in the States, I get 1 VIP point for every dollar spent. 41999 gave me 199 VIP points. Not sure if the rate is the same in Australia. There are double point promotions every now and then, so if you happen to buy your 41999 sets during that time, you get more points. I assume the new parts you are talking about are the 11x3 red panels and the bucket from 42030. Your only options for those parts are either Bricklink or LEGO direct, but LEGO direct might be kinda iffy with the loader parts since it's a licensed set. That being said, I think there are a few people here that have successfully ordered parts from the loader, but back when the Unimog came out, I know a few people had trouble getting parts for it. It may just come down to who at LEGO you talk to.

This is awesome! Instantly recognizable as a Toyota 40 series Land Cruiser.

For the ailerons, I would suggest just running an axle down the length of each wing, similar to the 42025 Cargo Plane. For the flaps, you could use an axle running down the length of the wingspan turned by a worm gear, or you could use LAs to lower the flaps. Pneumatics may be an option here too, although you wouldn't get much precision. For the rudders, I would suggest a simple axle running to the back, or maybe push/pull rods (probably a combination since the B-25 is a twin tail). For the elevator, maybe either an axle running to the back or push/pull rods. You will need to use a friction pin, counter weight, or spring to keep the elevator in the neutral (middle) position when the control stick is not being held. Sounds like a neat project!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
dhc6twinotter replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
A bank would be very welcome, although a full size modular seems a bit large for a bank. Maybe only 2 floors like the FB and PC? A corner building would also reduce the footprint. However TLG does it, a bank would be really great, especially if it had an armored car to go along with it. -

[MINI] Tumbler
dhc6twinotter replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is great! Interesting parts use for the steering. You've managed more functions than the UCS tumbler! -
I just have to say that there are some amazing entries in this competition. There is some real quality work being displayed. Excellent work everyone!
