  1. WIP. I will be working on 42008 service truck
  2. The 50 % off probably happened, if you were watching the website from 12:00:00 to 12:00:05 past midnight, and ordered the last one or two in stock - I got a set exactly this way, but only 35 % off, by the time 12:01 rolled around (1 minute past midnight), they were all gone.
  3. Yes, Tatra would be cool, or maybe an 8x8 with portal axles instead. Will you be releasing shorter, editied versions of the livestream for reviewing later (I know this could be a lot of work)
  4. Brilliant and great presentation - a new high bar to shoot for. But, how do I get the poster?
  5. Looks like they fixed the servo motor to give true return to center steering
  6. Great parts set - I am wondering about all of those grey pins holding the 5x11 panels in place - are they with or without friction? With friction would be a new color for 43093; could equally be either 3749 (without friction). Here's hoping.
  7. That is what I was wondering, what synthetic lubricants are compatible with ABS plastic?
  8. Great tip - but wondering if you need to use 'extra-virgin' olive oil or just regular olive oil ? Any non-food oils better, what about the old standby WD40?
  9. As my son says, "Gears! Gears! Gears!" - really, of course I knew about gears and transmitting power in different directions and different actions (I am an engineer, after all). But when you get hands-on and start fooling around with different gearing, transferring rotary motion to linear motion, cams, etc... then you really get an appreciation for mechanical devices.
  10. Just got these, order placed Jan 17th, received Jan 29th, less than 2 weeks, not bad The 3L axle/pins and 5L axles with stops are going to come in handy this weekend!
  11. Looking at the video again, I am wondering if the servo motor was centered before it was installed, that may account for why steering is not returning to center, and also the some of the jerkiness in the steering movement. (I know because I did the same thing when I built 41999, had to perform servo-extractive surgery to get the motor out in order to center it properly )
  12. I'd wait for more info before criticizing the steering - we may have been dealing with an inexperienced operator in the video. However, it is curious that the servo motor is not giving RTC steering, unless there is some gearing between the servo and the steering mechanism, such as some type of catch, that the servo motor can push one way or the other to effect turning. In other words, the servo is not steering direct, but operating a mechanism that does the steering. Can't wait for more details.
  13. THat pick-up truck is going to bring out the inner red-neck in me. Its prime for PF'ing as well. Any word on whether its a model that can accept BB, etc..., like 42024 or 42006 - nevertheless, I'm already setting aside some motors for this one.
  14. O/T: There is a joke here concerning some of us being 'old' and 'grey' and not wanting to be 'sorted', but I can't quite figure out the punch-line... I find that with using old-fashioned tungsten lights, or halogen lights intended for studio photography, the differences between old grey and bley is quite readily apparent - helps if the bricks are sitting on a neutral white background. Compact LED's, halogens, etc... are really not that good for illuminating objects when trying to discern subtle color differences.
  15. Found this interesting page of a motorized MOC of the iconic LandMaster from the movie Damnation Alley http://lego.roerei.n...-landmaster.htm, by Jurrien Bijhold; it features two pairs of tri-star wheels, all 12 wheels are driven, and articulated body sections.
  16. DrJB, please elaborate? Assuming this part would be a replacement for a tri-star wheel, what issues do you see?
  17. Wicked cool, great job! I like they way you place the functions behind the flaps. I've seen it both ways, hidden and exposed, on heavy highway vehicles at local truck stops.
  18. Trying not to beat a dead horse here, but this is my concept for a four-wheel mechanism - may need to be strengthened where the axle 8 w/stop connects to the two gears being used as the hub. I would build this myself if I had 16 matching wheels (have 8 too small, and 10 between my 9393 and 8049, but not ready to give them up yet).
  19. My thoughts also. How about going with 4 points (four wheels) instead of 3 - this will make the assembly much more rigid and much easier to build.
  20. I just got all of the parts for my flying saucer, starting to figure out how to make it spin and have flashing lights
  21. I started using these fold-up paper boxes, inside of cardboard fold-up flats, for sorting parts for builds. For WIP, works great, as I can put the lid on and move the box out of the way, to make room for other projects. Both the cardboard flats and the fold-ups are very inexpensive. Bulk parts are stored either in inconvenient IKEA-brand food storage containers or inconvenient small plastic cabinet, again with the fold-up boxes acting as trays. I am going to Home Depot sometime soon to look for a better solution.
  22. How about parts that used to be in multiple colors, but now only produced in one color - such as the despised blue , which was also available as white (2006 stopped production) and the much nicer black (only made in 2002, according to BrinkLink). Seems to have only ever been made in black.
  23. Actually, at my local TRU they sold out of all Technic sets, except 9398 (boring functions) during December, also on-line as well. The 42000 has been sold out at TRU for months, yet they still display it. I think that there is as much Technic interest in NA region as some of the other themes - most likely production and distribution in 1Q 2014 has been diverted to support other themes - Princess, Movie Back on topic - is the pickup 4x4? 4 wheel steer? other functions - lights, winch, tilting bed?
  24. OK, here is a solution with common parts and equally spaced beams, not sure how strong this will be
