  1. ^^Same. Was expecting a fight with their new website, but order went smoothly. I was originally planning to visit one of the 4 stores in the Boston area, but plans changed. I'll be very curious to hear about anyone's experience at a LEGO Store this morning. The location in Burlington, MA received 15 Destroyers, not sure about the other 3 stores. Anyone visit Peabody, Burlington, Natick or Braintree this morning?
  2. At the risk of belaboring the point, I thought the Destroyer hovering over Jedha City was one of the coolest images in RO. We saw the Acclamator cruisers launch from the surface in Ep II and the Venators launched from the Coruscant staging area in III. So, despite the huge mass of a Destroyer, I figured in a fleet of hundreds there might be a handful retrofitted with high output repulsorlift tech...or something like that ...and I'm hoping to pick up the new SD on release day. I think I'm one of the few that likes this one better than 75192 - beauty and the beholder, etc... I've always liked the bad guy vehicles better! Imagine a 75252 hovering over a giant Jedha City MOC?? That needs to be a thing!
  3. There are vendors that make specialized lighting systems for MOCs, but you can also get two lights in 8293 Power Functions. The resulting wiring at the top of the Bacta tank would probably blend right in as technical looking detail. Also, I saw your conference room MOC - very nice! You're churning out MOCs faster that I can comment!
  4. Dang! Another hit! The detail and aesthetic is perfect - you nailed the look of Echo Base just right. I like everything about this one, from the detail of the corridor to the wall design of the med bay. Any plans to light up the tank? Thanks for posting!
  5. ^^Agreed...close. I would love to see another UCS Lambda Shuttle because there's room for improvement on 10212, if you ask me. The engine exhaust looked pretty bad, so I modified mine to my liking. Also, the taper of the cockpit nose section was too extreme. To be fair, it's probably one of the most difficult shapes to achieve accurately with LEGO elements, but it bugs me every time I look at it - which is dozens of times a day. I still haven't thought of a good solution... But a new UCS Lambda-class with the Emperor, 4 Royal Guards and an officer or two! YES PLEASE!!
  6. Good points, all of which I agree with. Sure, we would all love to have our own copies of the Monarch, etc...but a 12,000 to 15,000 piece magnum opus is a cost and time commitment that most of us cannot or will not undertake. So for less than half the cost and way less time invested, we can have a beautiful, giant SD of our own (taking up too much space) and maybe polish it up a bit with mods, or not. On a separate note, I wonder how much an identical re-release of 10030 would cost in today's dollars. Might shock me...pesky inflation...slow and insidious.
  7. ^^This. What would a mass-produced, worldwide release of a 15,000 piece Star Destroyer even cost?? ^^aaannnnd this
  8. Wow! Day 1 purchase for sure. Granted, all the Star Destroyer MOCs out there may be considered far superior, but I'm looking at the big picture. Purchasing this set and modifying it to my liking - if that's even necessary - is the most efficient way to acquire this mass of grey parts. I have zero interest in placing and tracking dozens(?) of Bricklink orders. Complex and detailed interiors in other builders' MOCs are wonderful to look at online, but they're not a priority for a display piece in my office. Only 2 figures is a little disappointing, but they look great. I can't really say the price surprises me. I passed on 75192 because I just don't like the Falcon as much as the SD. It seems like this set was tailor made for me, and I'm buying one. Maybe two eventually. What I like: the modular construction of the outer hull - looks much easier to transport or break down for storage. the dome underneath detail inside the main hangar bay is a nice touch, but ultimately pointless unless you hang it from the ceiling. no magnets! amazingly accurate look to it I really like reading everyone's reaction, but I think it all comes down to the perceived value - it's different for everyone, yes?
  9. ^^Same. I sat out 75192 for now, so yes, I'm looking forward to the unboxing experience as well. I will be fogging up the window of a LEGO Store on release day for this one. I'm glad to see the shape of the main reactor dome on the belly this time.
  10. So very well done, this one! If you squint it could be a screenshot from the movie! I like the mottled combination of brown and dark grey for that grimy, rusted out look. ...AAANND I just discovered your flickr photostream - WOW!!
  11. FANTASTIC looking MOC! Just...a perfect representation of that sleek, sterile Imperial aesthetic - in a vignette-style build! That goes for all of the MOCers that achieve a large and detailed hangar bay creation like this. Recent elements can really make a MOC like this shine. The glowing 'lights' on the sides of the ribbed walls are perfectly shaped with the 1x1 tile with curved edge. Awesome work, thanks for sharing!
  12. First, Flieger, thanks for a great topic for discussion. Thankfully the Ep 9 set images broke the slow news cycle, which was spawning a lot of treadmill bickering over semantics and minutiae The question you posed in your original post really had me analyzing my own purchasing habits. I'm not a completionist by any stretch, so I'll certainly leave a set on the shelf that doesn't appeal to me. On the other hand, I will occasionally buy a set from a series I have zero interest in because of the great design, e.g. 75083 AT-DP from SW Rebels. Great looking set, great looking minifigs, don't care about SW Rebels. Now the curveball. I enjoyed The LEGO Movie 2 and its predecessor so much that it inspired me to chase after my first Collectable Minifigure Series - the hard way. That is, instead of purchasing a new, sealed box with three complete sets of minifigs, I hunted far and wide to pick through the random assortment for the fun of opening the bags to see what I got. Incidentally, this fun chase eventually made me quite adept at finding the minifig I needed by pressing through the bag to get the shape of the crayon guy, the giraffe guy, watermelon guy, mechanic Benny, etc... Had I not liked the LEGO movies, I'm pretty sure I would NOT have gone to such lengths! So I guess I fall somewhere in between...sometimes enjoyment of the source material matters a lot, other times not at all
  13. Wonderful mods to one of the best UCS sets to date! I can relate to your 'weird obsession' as this is my favorite vehicle in the SW universe. Still - as amazing as it is - the 10212 set is lacking in many areas. The extreme taper of the cockpit nose section, lack of a boarding ramp, and the clumsy engine exhaust section to name a few. While I understand that TLG designs a set with certain limitations in mind such as piece count, legal/illegal connections, price tier, etc... I really like that you addressed certain areas with relative ease and simplicity! Excellent work! If TLG sticks to their practice of re-designs, hopefully we'll see another iteration of this shuttle before too long. In the meantime, the only mod I did to mine was to the engine exhaust area (years ago on FBTB, similar to your solution) and now I'm tempted to rip it apart! Oh! Btw, any ideas for the ugly taper of the cockpit section? Thanks for sharing all these updates!
  14. A: 10-3-7 B: 8-7-2
  15. Unbelievable! One of the most imaginative MOCs I've seen lately - IT REMINDS ME OF BLADE RUNNER!! The sub-street level is probably my favorite to study - amazing detail. Nicely done!
  16. I LOVE THIS MOC Exactly LEGO, you're great, but c'mon. Most under-represented ship of the OT - and I can't help but feel that *sometimes* you're asleep at the switch. BARNEIUS fantastic work - I can't praise this enough! From proportion to detail it's just perfect...now wrap it in a 20th Anniversary box so I can buy one already!!!
  17. I'll be 3rd! Beautiful MOC! I would fork over considerable cash for instructions alone, PM if interested....
  18. Looks GREAT Michal! I really like seeing so many command shuttles getting the redo treatment - this is my favorite vehicle of the sequel trilogy (so far). I particularly like your use of tile plates on the top and sides of the cockpit for that smooth, uncluttered look Also, the detail on the outside bottom of the wings looks great as well, as does the offset hinges on the landing gear 'feet.' OH! And a boarding ramp to an improved interior! Excellent. Perhaps all these mods floating around might get the attention of TLG to do it right next time around! I certainly think this vehicle has enough screen time to warrant a re-design, no? Finally, thank you for not putting any loud, obnoxious music on your YT vid!! Good choice - nice chill sounds, makes me want to stick around and watch the whole video
  19. Looks FANTASTIC barneius! I did the same project shortly after the original 75104 released - just couldn't handle all the inaccuracies With mine, I chose to leave some dark grey elements here and there just to accent all the black. And it's too bad because 75104 really had the potential to be a GREAT set! This command shuttle design is one of the most glaring examples of the challenge toy companies face with very secretive and changing movie scripts - Hasbro REALLY got it wrong A predominantly black ship with tilting wings (without those flaps on the bottom) would have been perfect! Oh well...maybe in a re-design some day.
  20. Wow. Had to chime in here - what an amazing MOC...from one of the most amazing visual moments in Rogue One. Everything about this from the originality of the subject to the proportions are just spot on. I’m considering a purchase for the Star Destroyer alone! Thanks for sharing this - incredible work.
  21. GREAT looking X-wings! The engine intakes are especially well done, and it's the feature that made me want to reply. It's really too bad that the 75149 and 75102 sets have the clunky, ugly engines - changes the whole look of the ships, and not in a good way IMHO. You really captured the 'split perfect circle' look of the engines here. If LEGO had spent a little more time with the new X-wing engines, they would have had a fantastic looking model. I know, I know - price point, piece count, illegal connections, etc... Sometimes I'm really baffled by the decisions they make. Your engine solution is awesome.
  22. Upon initial viewing, my immediate reaction after clicking the link to the first image was huh, that's kinda ugly.... After a while spent zooming in to images, however, this one is growing on me. Okay, it's not the prettiest item out of Billund, but one must admit the bar has been set QUITE high as of late *cough* $800 dollar MF *cough* For my part, I don't expect every single MB/UCS set to knock my socks off - different approach, different mission, etc... I'll buy one, I look forward to the build. I love a cloud car, Slave I looks pretty neat, I really like the dark red of the interrogation room - it's packed with every scene! Oh, and this... ...who are we kidding? This'll go EOL, skyrocket in value and become one of the most coveted sets for the next 1.5 decades.
  23. Speaking of the new X-wing... Just watched the 75218 set review from JANGBRiCKS and I was curious if anyone else noticed that this is the first LEGO X-wing version that actually has engines in correct proportion. Try this: Observe the images of the 75218 set, taking care to notice how well-proportioned the model is, then flash over to images of the 10240 set and look at the engines. The same parts are used for the engine intakes on both models. This made the 10240 look ridiculous, but makes the 75218 model look fantastic! The right part, the wrong model. This bugged me so much that I had to mod the 10240 engines right out of the box. THANK YOU LEGO for finally getting rid of the ubiquitous 3-wide engine piece on a system scale X-wing! FINALLY!! Perhaps revisit the engine design for the next 'UCS' X-wing?
  24. Nicely done! The Lambda cockpit section has always been particularly difficult to properly achieve with LEGO elements, but you have done a fantastic job. This is inspiring me to mod my 10212 cockpit from the windscreen forward. I like how you used the 1x8 with rail and trans black cheese wedges to make the windscreen pillar. Thanks for the photos!
  25. Incredible stuff - just brilliant, every last one of them...and I'm not even a HP fan. Although it may seem like a small element, I believe the manner in which you used lighting makes these vignettes special. Your shadowy, ominous lighting perfectly captures the dark tone that is ever-present in these films. Bravo, sir!
