Fantastic review! This set is superior to its predecessor in every fashion - a home run for LEGO. I share your satisfaction with the simple brilliance of the spring-loaded wing mechanism - great stuff! Sets like this, the 20th Anniversary Slave I, etc... keep me coming back to SW LEGO. Meh, I'm over it. Thanks, though TLG isn't the only company that received a little bad intel... Probably not the next Blue Snaggletooth, but ya never know!

Same! I'm really warming up to the Arctic X-wing! And I will be very tempted to go back and mod the engines on Poe's original X-wing using the much-improved design. -

I will take quality over quantity any day! Watching The Sin is the first time in a LONG TIME that I've been on the edge of my seat during Star Wars content. I clapped and cheered at the end - that only happens to me after Game of Thrones! JJ, RJ, KK - WATCH AND LEARN! BRING ON THE LEGO SETS!! -
^^Agreed - this is a great looking technique! The front oblique view of the TIE Fighter is especially good. Well done - thanks for posting this!

I'm hoping for a tweak to the engines on the FO X-wing. I feel like they never really got the circular intakes looking right - too bulky and oval. -

SB00301 B-PROJECT (MOC Resistance Bomber UCS)
lowlead replied to StarBricks's topic in LEGO Star Wars
^^You read my mind. Granted, there had to be some tension-building and drama in that scene but I think they took it too far. The horrible slowness at which those bombers moved turned the suspense into questioning their tactics. If they moved along just a bit more zippy, it would have made the scene! ANYway... StarBricks, this MOC is a marvel to behold! Not my absolute favorite vehicle, but I bow to your skills nonetheless! May I ask, would you have any future plans for a Lambda class or Upsilon class shuttle? -
DANG!! What a beauty! The engines look freakin' fantastic - everything, really, looks amazing so far! ^^How can you go wrong with goals like this? Well before its completion, this model is making me want to start Bricklinking!! ...assuming there will eventually be instructions available! GREAT work so far, thanks for the update!

[MOC] [INSTRUCTIONS] – LAATi Republic Gunship – The Clone Wars
lowlead replied to Chef's topic in LEGO Star Wars
WOW!! Fantastic build! Great solution for the long, angled top section - looks super clean. The stepped approach you used for the gradually widening sides is very effective because of the subtle change as you move aft. Really liking the door actuation, too. The slopes you used to make the detail on the aft ramp section looks amazing, and the stud-to-tile ratio on the wings is just right. Not crazy about the blocky octagonal engines, but that's nitpicking. GREAT JOB!- 11 replies

Fantastic review - thanks for your efforts! This ship has never been a favorite of mine and the amount of stickers turns me off, but it looks like a great set for the A-wing fans!

Decided to buy a second copy of Kylo's Shuttle using VIP Points during 2x VIP promo for $109.99. On the surface, the improvements in this version are obvious. However, after building this set, I'm really impressed by the spring-loaded mechanism that operates the wings. Fantastic set, I have a soft spot for shuttles

Over time I have modified my LSW purchasing habits due to diminishing space, but also because of the perspective I've gained from buying SW LEGO since day 1. I have learned to refine my taste for these sets to such a degree that it's much easier for me to leave most behind on the shelf lately - even if my reaction is initially very positive. Also, I'm not compelled to drop a lot of cash on a set that I feel indifferent about just to acquire the minifig(s) - and I think this is where many collectors begin to feel overwhelmed. Case in point: the new 75254 AT-ST Raider. I'm excited for The Mandalorian, the figure looks great, the walker isn't bad, but I'm just not that wowed by the set. So, I'll just buy the Mando fig on Bricklink if I really want it. To hope that the world's largest toy manufacturer throttles back on product releases of an historic cash cow is a losing battle. Individual consumers have a personal responsibility to make wise decisions regarding the spending of their disposable income. To point at LEGO and suggest they're somehow responsible for one's own financial hardship is displacement of blame and foolish.

...ah yes! The one with 'Leia on a Leash.' Not even sure that set would be allowed these days! Kylo's Shuttle and the Falcon was just dropped on the porch today, good looking sets!

Got an email this morning from CS - the dome piece has already shipped! I haven't even spoken with them yet, I just filled out the Missing Parts form in the Support section of LEGO.com - not bad! So, with support like this, I can't even be mad at the errors in the set. HA! Exactly.
-
Actually, yes. For the longest time I did not believe in the missing piece simply because of TLGs nearly flawless reputation and assurance that you'll always have each part required to complete the set. ...until now I'm missing one of the two domes for the bridge deflector shields. I immediately assumed it was my own carelessness when opening the bags, except I'm very careful opening bags. I looked everywhere for it, and finally gave up. Then I found this in my pile of pieces: It doesn't even belong in the set! But wait, there's more!! My instruction book is missing pages While building the sides of the bridge tower, the instructions skip from Step 707 to Step 742!! So, I had to consult the online instructions to finish the sides and build the back walls of the bridge tower. No biggie, but thank goodness the instructions are available elsewhere! IIRC, an occasional addendum had to be issued for corrections on instructions, but it's been a while. I'm not mad, necessarily, but I'm very curious if LEGO is even aware of this yet. I'm sort of looking forward to speaking with CS tomorrow. I love the set, it looks amazing on display - a bit wonky with only one shield generator dome - but I'm confident LEGO will send the replacement part in short order.

What are some Star Wars sets that TLG could never produce?

timemail is a good example of why they'll never stop the SW line. In a way, he's lucky! timemail, and others like him, have a much different perspective coming into the SW line at a time when set designs are reaching a peak of accuracy and complexity. Granted, from the point of view of a SW collector since 1999, it may seem like the constant re-hashes are lackluster and well-trodden; but if you study side-by-side comparisons of recent stuff long enough, it's clear that most of these vehicles improve every time. Case in point: The latest X-wing is a great looking version - I never bothered with them until 75218 came along. They finally got the engine proportions right, gave the rear fuselage that hexagonal look, and designed a more innovative 's-foil' mechanism. Same for the Slave I - I'm floored by this one! In my opinion, it's the best looking version so far - even better than the UCS model if you ask me. The rest of those 20th Anniversary sets I left on the shelf, but they knocked it out of the park with 75243! The 75211 TIE Fighter is the best looking by far. The bubble canopy on 9492 just didn't work, nor did the bulky, ugly wing panel attach points. The Imperial Shuttle is obvious, having only two System scale versions - anything would be better than 7166. And who thought the System Millennium Falcon would always have gaps? Just when I thought this ship would always be a slight variation of the same mediocre design, the October set images proved me wrong. I like the Falcon well enough, I own 10179, but I passed on 75192. My 7190 didn't stay assembled for very long, but I might just pick up the new one next month - it's that much of an improvement. So, while I initially agreed with the OP, I think I would miss SW stuff on shelves.

Thank you, VBBN, for this thorough review - well done. I think you made some very good points, especially your comment regarding the size and accuracy of the model... That is exactly the appeal of this set and why I ordered it on Day 1. I have no interest in an interior, and I happen to like the choice of figures - it's as if the set was tailor made for me. The build, the price, the figures...it all just makes sense to me. I don't resent LEGO for the decisions they made with this one, and I feel very fortunate to afford one.
