  1. Oh man, I love this! It's great fun zooming in to check out all the alien patrons - you even included those brunette twins. Also, I like how you elaborated on the drink dispensing gear above the bar area - even a galaxy far, far away needs taps. Good stuff - nicely done, sir!
  2. Best brown box...EVAR! Granted, I cashed in $70 in VIP points which brought the price down to ~$240.00, but I still would have paid full price for this set without hesitation. The technic solution for the wheel tread structure significantly reduced the bulk of the brick-built version, and some very innovative building techniques made the angles of the side panels possible - pretty amazing stuff from the designer, in my opinion. The studs-on-side method gives the model texture which enhances the look, I believe. The original version almost looks too smooth and shiny - and the inclusion of scattered, multi-colored bricks didn't really mask this trait. Lego-Freak: Yes, thank you very much for the comparison pics! After seeing the two side-by-side, I'm really glad I skipped the first incarnation - it's quite ugly! The 75059 nicely captures the angles and overall look of the ILM model - a vast improvement all around, and definitely worth the wait. 9 out of 10
  3. Something_Awesome: Great topic, it's always interesting to read what everyone does once they get to the last page in the instruction booklet. I definitely share your goal of one day building a themed display. I, too, am a big fan of the Imperial Shuttle - I think you should build your 10212, you won't regret it! Overall it's #2 or 3 in the top 5 of the UCS line, in my opinion. I have a nice mod for the engine exhausts as well. About the only drawback would be the resulting scale of the Endor platform. I'm patiently waiting for a new system scale shuttle, as well. 10212 was a 2010 release, so it's about time for a nice system re-design, as the 7166 set was underwhelming to me. For my part, I'm a hybrid Builder-Collector-Investor. Like many others above, I concentrate heavily on OT stuff, but I'll certainly not pass up a good sale on any LEGO theme. I currently have 1 wall of 1 room dedicated to display, and the UCS Falcon on my kitchen countertop. I'm approaching critical mass, which will likely force me to rotate my display selections. I keep the displays limited so as to avoid insanity from dust removal (hand-vac nozzle held close to dry paint brush - works great). If I ever find myself in the market for a new home, I'll definitely have a LEGO room!
  4. Lookin' great, eddmont! Fantastic solution for the engine nacelles without the octan tanker parts - I wish I thought of that! There's so much versatility with all the new sloped elements, I'm still baffled that LEGO opted for that original engine design. I like your nose mods as well. I made a small Bricklink purchase just to get some 2x3 slopes - it provides a lot more stability to the leading edge of the nose when compared with using the three 1x2 pieces. Either way, a vast improvement to the original.
  5. Clearly! Looks like a new cockpit piece as well - trans clear with printing instead of brick-built. For my part, I would be very interested in a new, slightly smaller UCS style Falcon. There's no denying it would make a big splash if released alongside Ep VII. Perhaps with a minifig complement: Lando and Nien Nunb returning the Falcon to Han Solo after a few years of borrowing...and not before Lando finds a new deflector dish, of course. I always wanted to see that scene, instead Hayden Christiansen appeared as a ghost, then the credits rolled. Bummer.
  6. Hey Daniel! Any more progress on this beast? I've been looking forward to the finished product! In the meantime I'm also wondering why LEGO Technic hasn't officially teamed up with John Deere yet! One would think, in a fury of licensing, a big John Deere 1470E harvester would make a huge splash (HINT) *edit* After some research, it just occurred to me that John Deere may have exclusive licensing ties with...that other company that shall remain nameless. Oh well.
  7. Fantastic! Hey LEGO, are you seeing this?? Fluid, strong motion with seemingly zero compromise to the shape of the vehicle (unlike the motorized AT-AT which looks horrible) - nicely done, VanTim! My advice for what it's worth: Keep your original and sell the instructions! This way you can at least brand your work on a printed or digital document. If you sell the whole model, what's stopping the buyer from doing the same? If it's money you're after, I'm thinking instructions are the better way to go - much easier to distribute.
  8. Ha! So, when all copies are spoken for, who gets the display models in all the LEGO stores around the globe? And I wonder if the employees of each store have a lottery or something - any insiders know?
  9. #19635 just arrived (S@H U.S.) - thankfully without a destructive little ploybag floating around inside. I like how the box isn't huge, but filled to the brim with parts.
  10. I like this topic. It would be neat to see if anyone gets their own postal code...or 05150 for all you Van Halen / LEGO fans
  11. Wow! Very thorough review, thanks! Tantive and Jedi interceptor are my favs, but they all look pretty good. What confuses me is the numerous printed elements - not a complaint by any stretch, but their rationalization process still escapes me.
  12. ^^If not for this criteria, I couldn't even choose, as 2012 was a banner year for OT sets. I have lots of favs from last year - but if I had to choose, it would be the TIE Fighter at the $34.97 walmart price they had going for some weeks. It has since climbed back to $49.97, which puts the Skiff a close second, but either way, great design, great figs.
  13. ^^Probably that - but wouldn't it be great if we got something entirely new. HINT HINT
  14. Well, if it has an appropriately shaped canopy and better scaled engine nacelles, I already like it better than 7191 sight unseen.
  15. Good lord! Wow. When I see a MOC that really catches my eye on the boards, I'm accustomed to providing useful feedback that the builder can appreciate - i.e. two cups of 'Awesome' with a teaspoon of constructive criticism. But this.... it's just too difficult to imagine the scale and complexity of this build without experiencing it in person. It's truly a fanboy version - the Über Collector Series! Do you happen to have a 10030 handy for scale reference photos? That'd be pretty cool to see. Either way, nicely done. HUZZAH!
  16. I am not at all referring to the size or scale you chose for your AT-AT...some of the most amazing MOCs out there are constructed in a small scale...often a tiny scale. Wow. Have a nice day, sir!
  17. A key statement, lefty. Anio, gushing praise isn't guaranteed. After carefully reading this entire topic at least twice, I have to agree with the constructive criticism contained in the above posts. I was honestly expecting a masterpiece when I discovered your post in the forums, but I was underwhelmed after viewing the photos. I certainly mean no disrespect, but it's okay if some members believe there's a lot of room for improvement of your AT-AT. Just by creating a new thread to showcase your MOC implies that you want members to comment. Your over-sensitivity comes across as very childish, and it's disappointing coming from a builder of your skill.
  18. W O W ...the resident expert of life-like military aircraft strikes again. Always been a big fan of your work. I'm especially impressed with the wing angles you have accomplished with your Osprey - pronounced dihedral, and subtle forward sweep. Impressive, most impressive! I will concur that your B1-B still reigns, but the Osprey...wait...they're all epic!! I would love to see an F-111...my favorite warplane. Fantastic work...jealous.
  19. Great MOC! The last photo cracked me up - I love the little mouse droid in his hole, and the smiling Imperial officer at his station. Why not enjoy your work, right? Laughed out loud at that.
  20. Kawasaki Vulcan900C Just got into riding this Summer after completing a safety course with my girlfriend. We're having a great time cruising so far. Definitely taking it slow while I get comfortable with the bike, and careful to remember all the rules of thumb for keeping the tires on the road. Riding actually makes me a better driver - now I'm keeping my eyes peeled no matter what I'm driving! The 250s that the safety course provided were great fun but after an intensive weekend of riding, I was popping pain pills from being sore. I simply did not fit on a Suzuki Intruder! Long story short, after trying out dozens of bikes I arrived at the Vulcan Custom for my first bike. It's a 2007 with 9800 miles and super affordable. It's got forward mounted controls (so my legs fit), and the previous owner put Cobra pipes on it...so it's prety loud! Good times.
  21. Thanks! I'm barely a MOCer these days, all I have to show for my own creations lately is a shortened SSD stand and some AT-AT 5.0 mods that I haven't posted yet. Hopefully I'll find some inspiration for new projects before long. Yeah, I really like the Eurobricks Forums for the constant activity. Here and FBTB are my goto places for all things LSW. Plus, there's a motorcycle thread here, which I'll contribute to soon. -Cheers
  22. Err, guilty. Long time lurker
  23. That's a great plan, wishing I had the patience to hold off till October myself...but I caved. No regrets by any stretch, however, as the ship is something to behold when it's finally on display. I would have preferred to build one years ago from my own collection, but alas, my parts supply wasn't (and still isn't) nearly extensive enough. I had a blast with this one...I opted for a speedier build by assembling all the mirrored sections concurrently. Amazing how much faster you cruise through the instructions when you don't have to repeat for the opposite side all the time! I also tried skipping around, building all the perimeter and cityscape detail parts first, then staging them for an assembly line style order. Anyway, depsite the flat bottom, I'm still blown away by this set, and urge the undecided to make the leap - I'm betting you'll be happy you did, especially this October.
  24. Great thread, everyone. Having grown up in the 80s, it certainly makes me cheer whenever a new OT 'UCS' set is announced, but at the same time I really enjoyed building 10195 - and 10215 for that matter. Any well-designed 10xxx set will get a thumbs up from me, no matter which film it appeared in. As for the recent trend regarding the blurry UCS classification: TLG can load the thing up with minifigs, add a supremely off-scale interior, I don't care...as long as the vehicle itself is worthy of display alongside the earlier heavy-hitters like 10030 and the big Falcon. The new SSD is a case in point: huge, great looking set, fun build, impressive on display despite the quirky interior - doesn't bother me one bit. I would rather have 10221 come with minifigs and an interior than not have the set released at all. I would even go as far as saying the minifigs in 10221 add a certain coolness factor even though I'm not a fig collector. An enhanced experience for me, and quite possibly an attribute that could push the indecisive buyer over the edge to make a purchase instead of passing over a big grey ship. Something for everyone, perhaps .02
