LDD Field of View.
Calabar replied to Alcom1's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Try to add the request to the "LDD 5, what do YOU want?" topic, maybe the LDD Team will decide to add it in the next release. Anyway remember that hight FOV would distort the image, Maybe the FOV of LDD is regulated so that the image is less deformed as possible. When I played Quake, I used FOV 110°, and the image was surely a bit deformed. About your tests with the lxf file, try with a file as simple as possible, looking inside the lxfml file if there are other camera parameters you didn't seen. -
@Stephan Wow, huge work! I've only a little request: could you try to assemble the model to make it more recognizable? It is not necessary that the connections are recognized by LDD or the parts are perfectly aligned.

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Calabar replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@Lego Otaku As LDD has not "physics", I fear that the bottleneck is not the CPU but the Video card. LDD surely need a huge optimization, but I think that change the graphic engine is much more than TLG wants to reserve for LDD, that at the moment is provides for fans, because there is not a business related to it anymore. I think that a simple and not much realistic "outline bricks" function (that works with old video cards too) would be appreciated from those that have performance problems but find very useful this function to build their creations. -
Snap good quality screenshots in LDD
Calabar replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Added a little guide that shows how to use ImageMagik to execute batch crop and resize of the images. It is a WIP still, any contribute for MacOS and Linux will be appreciated. -
@desrs6 Much better! Images are good enough, but you should better crop that (cut out blank stripes around the subject). I suggest you to read this guide, that can help you to make better screenshots.

@Instructions archiver I've slightly modified the formatting of your post. What about the inaccuracies list? It is very difficult that a set like that is perfect in LDD. EDIT: ok, thanks for the list! Maybe you can replace the missing Plumes with the new version, available in LDD.

An intelligent Lego editor
Calabar replied to nana's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I think you could find many ideas here. -
@desrs6 Images of your entries are not regular. You should provide clean images (no background, no writing), and the images have to be cropped. Take a look at PeabodySam images over here, for example. Could you fix that? Another thing. For the set 6516 you wrote "Space Visor large hate wrong colour". LDD Extended allow you to use any available colours. Maybe Chrome colours are not precise, but you can surely prefer a gold colour for the visor other than blue as you did.

Calabar replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
@ADHO15 I've checked Set's names and it seems they are correct. Can you specify the problematic sets? -

accurate way to use the flex tool?
Calabar replied to SNIPE's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Great technique bbqqq, it is very fast and accurate. I knew LDD has difficulties to bend a flexible element if there are other elements connected, but I never thought about move the fixed parts and then bend the flexible ones. I hope to open a new Key Topic about LDD Techniques (volunteer anyone? ), I think that this one should be reported there. -
Identifying Collectible LEGO Minifigures by their weight
Calabar replied to bartneck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
With the "dot" technique I never obtained good results, while the "palpate" technique requires a lot of time. The "weight" technique is fast and have a good precision, and can be integrated with the other two: choose among 2 or 3 minifigs is much easier and fast than among all sixteen. I'm still waiting for the box, and in the meantime I wanted to pick some sachet, so I'd like to have the weights!- 40 replies

accurate way to use the flex tool?
Calabar replied to SNIPE's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
The flex tool in LDD don't work properly if there are connected elements. So my first suggestion is to curve the flex tube alone exactly with the form you need, and then use it as a base on which build your rails. As flexible elements can flex in every point, it is impossible to set angles as you can do in the hinge tool. My suggestion is to use lamp holders to lock starting and final point, than use the flex tool to fit the tube and mould it with a curved shape. You could use other bricks to build a pattern where the tube can lay on during the molding operation to obtain a better precision. My only doubt is: will the pin connectors fit into the tube after you flex it? I suggest you to make some preliminary tests. -

@ADHO15 Thanks for the model, good work! @penguinz You are right, the accuracy is more desirable. If you want you can attach the other version as an "extra", it can be useful for renderings or for people who want to "play" with a complete model. The rules of the topic allow to provide extra models for a set.

Could you share the lxf file, pleeeeeease? I love the model, I'd like to build it in real bricks. -
The problem is that the index manager, to avoid errors, don't allow me to add themes that are not in the theme list. So I would have to manually add the theme and later be worried to check the integrity of the entry (or we will risk problems such as those for the LOTR sets you reported above). So I prefer to mark these themes as "To Be Defined", and fix them when the database is updated. Eheh, yes, often I add the sets almost in real time So the mistery is revealed! And edit a post to add an entry is never a good idea! Now I get the point! I saw your 6211 Imperial Star Destroyer and confused it with the missing UCS version. Ok, so the entry don't exists! What a pity! I'll remove it from the database then. any volunteer to built this set?

@ADHO15 "I could have a go at building it, but didn't DenJansen post one not long ago?" Unfortunately DenJansen inserted the wrong link for the lxf file, and he seems to be not available anymore. So a new entry for the set would be appreciate (some visitor already asked for it). "I guess I should get on with updating some other themes now anyway." If I'm not wrong, there was issues with your western entries, could give priority to that, please? "You've classed the new Planet sets as TBD (?) rather than as Series 3 and 4 for some reason." The problem is due to the lack of the planet series 3 and 4 in the Bricklink database, so the theme is... To Be Defined. The theme will be "defined" as soon as that themes will be catalogued. "- You have 'Hobbit and Lord of the Rings', 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' categories which could be confined to just one or two groups. - My '76005 Spider-Man : Daily Bugle Showdown' set is missing from the Super Heroes part of the index. - '7749 - Echo Base - by ADHO15 - <LDD 4.3> - [iNCOMPLETE] - Comment: Taun Taun missing' - the tauntaun is no longer missing - '8089 - Hoth Wampa Cave - by ADHO15 - <LDD 4.3> - [iNCOMPLETE] - Comment: Wampa missing' - the wampa is no longer missing" Thanks for all the points, I'll have a look at that as soon as possible. PS: about 76005, I've seen your post has been edited and the set is the last one in the post. Maybe you edited the post adding the set? "Like I said, you can delete '10030 - Imperial Star Destroyer - UCS - by ADHO15 - <LDD 4.3> - [iNCOMPLETE]' from the index as there is nothing there and I don't plan on building the set." Oh, I understood you asked me to delete the "coming soon" comment, not the whole entry. Even if the set is not fully complete, I think it is a good entry and it would be useful to maintain it in the index. Can you leave available the old version? You mean than now the caterpillar belt is flexible? Good news, you could share the modified lxf if you want (not as a new entry, only the file, so that penguinz can see it and adjust his creation).

@ADHO15 I've seen in your Star Wars series the UCS X-Wing 7191 is missing... What do you think to build it? The present version is very outdated.
