LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Calabar replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
An easy feature to add: downsampled thumbnails inside the .lxf file instead than the present small/real-size/aliased one, in order to increase quality. In other words LDD, instead than take a screenshot at 128x128px size during the "save" process, should take the screenshot at a larger size (for example at 512x512px) and then downscale it. The result would be much better! -
I hope this is not considered necroposting, I think this topic is timeless! The sets that broke my dark age was the Fantasy Era King's Castle Siege (7094) and Tower Raid (7037) (I bought them together, taking advantage of a good discount). To say the true some year before I bought a bionicle set for a present, and I was very tempted to buy an Exo Force set (probably the 7700, that I bought recently).. so it seems that my dark age was not so dark! Anyway the Fantasy Era sets was the real trigger.

It seems this topic is long time abandoned... maybe because the present user IDs are too hight to match set's ID? When I subscribed this forum there was not a set matching my member ID, but later LEGO released the set... and what a set! Finally, few weeks ago, I got my companion-set, the Palace Cinema. Love it. Any other that was waiting LEGO releasing a set with his/her ID has been recently satisfied?

Hi S_Bartfast, welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic. It seems there is something to fix in the "Errors" section. I'll try a fix, but if I'm breaking something, contact me in private for your original post. I added missing data for theme, don't forget it next time. Only one thing: I suggest you to don't use DropBox. In the past we had many problems and links are not permanent. I suggest you to use a LEGO related hosting such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that are affordable and allow to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlink.

LDD Official Sets UPGRADE Report
Calabar replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Index updated with informations reported until here. -
No one knows The real goal of this topic should be to gather links of MOCs containing lxf files that has been posted in the proper sections (as written in the Section Rules, standard MOCs have to be posted in the pertinent theme section, even if digital only). So the perfect indexer of this topic should be someone that visit theme sections and have a bit of patience to update the index.

Hi TheOneVeyronian, and welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic. Your entries are very good, but you should fix the images. Your images need to be cropped (borders around the subject have to be completely removed). Besides some image could be a little enlarged (for any doubt contact me in private, if you want).

Outlines on Bricks - LDD 4.3.8
Calabar replied to Hod Carrier's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Two main reasons: - Your video card don't support shader model 4. - You have not installed a proper driver for your video card. What is your video card? Use GPUz if you don't know the exact model. -
Maybe it is a "digital only" MOC, that uses parts in colours that has never been realized as real parts. If you are re-elaborating the model, you could try to change the colour of the part with a similar one (or completely replace the colour in the model) to solve the problem. Otherwise you could wait that TLG release the part... if they will ever do that

Confused, which program should I use?
Calabar replied to bemuser's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDraw is not a 3D design software, it is a library of parts. There are many software based on it. LeoCAD is one of these software. Main LDraw based software are: MLCAD (old-style), SR3D Builder (perhaps the more advanced, but recently discontinued), LDCAD (young but promising), jBrickBuilder (in Java, for small models), etc... You can easily export the models for PowRay (hight quality with LGEO libraries, see the powray guide, you can find many links in the section index). I'm not very expert in LDraw-based software, so what for a more detailed opinion. LDD uses a proprietary format for bricks. It allows to export to LDRAW (you need to update the LDraw.xml file), but the result is often not perfect. It is the software you have to use if you want to deal with lxf files. The software LDD2PowRay allows you to export to PowRay and replace decorations. PS: LDD don't allows to order parts anymore. It is now a pure tool since LEGO closes the "Design by Me" service. Mecabricks uses a third kind of bricks format. It is ab online software (works on the browser with WebGL) and easily allows to export the models in various format. I suggest you to carefully read the topics related to all these software. EDIT: Oops, preceded. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Calabar replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi welverin, and welcome to the digital section. As far as I know, LDD was born as a vehicle for the "Design by Me" service, that allowed to design a set and order it directly from LEGO (with box and instructions). Since the "Design by Me" service has been closed. LDD remains as a tool for the community of user that was born in the meantime, giving access to the new bricks with the update of the brickset, and few fix/improvements. At the moment, I think that a new version of LDD is unlikely. -

@Toa_Of_Justice Well done. You can use a text link to share what you want: enormous screenshots, renderings, galleries, alternative lxf files... I suggest you to place all these links in an "Extra" section (under the "Errors" one) for an easier recognition, but it is not compulsory, feel free to place the links in the place you think is more appropriate (for example among comments). -
Brick Outline function not working
Calabar replied to ecmo47's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Vista supports shader model 4, necessary for the "outline bricks" option. Probably the problems is an old video card (in this case the function is not available in the option panel) or some issue with drivers or the computing power/memory of the video card. Vista is not a bad system after SP2, a bit "heavy" but works fine (at least until 2017, when the support will be dropped out). Did you tried with the software I linked to you? -
Brick Outline function not working
Calabar replied to ecmo47's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Try with this software. Extract the zip where you prefer and double click on the executable (x32 or x64 according with your operating system). You can produce and attach an HTML LOG file for more details on your system. -

And what about your graphic card? -
You can use a LEGO related hosting such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that are affordable and allow to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlink. Upload your lxf or other lego related file (including images) and link it inside the forum.
