[HELP] Problem with LDD
Calabar replied to LDeaD's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Please provide your main hardware specifications (expecially the video card). Try to reduce graphic settings and see if that work around the problem. PS: try a more significative title for the topic, for example "LDD don't display all the bricks in the palette" removing the help tag. -
@RemtonDulyak Welcome you too in the LDD Official Set topic. Your post is fine, but the image is not regular: you should crop it (remove ALL the borders around the subject) and reduce image size (maximum size allowed in this topic is 512px for large sets, in your case a good size could be 448 pixel wide). Please read the rules in the first page of this topic! @mistahfreshone Perfect post this time. I only suggest you to slightly reduce image size.

Ok, I'll wait for the fix of the images. Be careful to completely remove the borders, you can see other entries as example. Another suggestion: don't convert the images in JPG but use the original PNG format of LDD screenshot. About Dropbox, there was many problems in the past and we lost many files, that's why brickshelf or bricksafe are a lot better.

Hi mistahfreshone, and welcome in the LDD Official Sets topic and in Eurobricks. Thanks for your contribution, your entry is almost regular but you should fix the images that has not been cropped (blank borders around the subject have to be completely removed). For the next times try to compact the text, this time I'll fix the post for you. Another thing: to share the lxf files you used a file hosting site that could remove the direct link in the future (that usually happens when the link include a random string). I suggest you to use a free LEGO related hosting site such as brickshelf or bricksafe, that allow you to host both images and lxf files and share that with hotlinks.

Unfortunately the script is obsolete, a function has been blocked for security reason. I tried to contact the author but I had no answer, so some time ago I took a look at the script and made a version that looses some features but works (I had no time to completely fix it). I attach an archive containing the modified script and some extra. Hope it helps. BL-LES.zip

It seems a very good mosaic software. Did you think about exporting the mosaic in lxf? It would be very useful for LDD users that want to have a digital version of the mosaic. -

POV-Ray Question
Calabar replied to nxtstep101's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Pow-ray is a free software, but unfortunately is very slow. Even the version 3.7, that supports multicore CPU (v3.6 don't) is extremely slow if compared with other modern rendering software. For example The user virtualrepublic here shows hight quality rendering obtained using MODO, a commercial software, in very short time. This is one of his entries. The rendering time increases with model size but overall with the presence of transparent parts. Anyway there is some trick. The user bbqqq discovered that you can split the rendering in three parts (geometries + bevels + shadows) and assembly that in a single image, saving a lot of rendering time. Take a look at here. -
[Help] Using LDD, MLCad

Oops... you are true, obviously! LDCad, not LDView! Thanks for the correction! -
[Help] Using LDD, MLCad
Calabar replied to moschino's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDD can create instructions, but the result is not very good. To obtain better instructions you could do that manually (using LDD screenshots) or use the groups technique: you have to create groups so that they reflect the order of the instructions, and then convert group code inside the lxfml file into intructions code (it is not immediate but the procedure can be automated). In short, it requires a bit of manual work. SR 3D Builder has an approach similar to LDD, although it is more complex. Unfortunately the developer of the software recently passed away, so SR 3D is destined to become obsolete. Anyway it is perfectly usable at the moment. Another alternative could be LDView, it is a recent software, there is a lot of work to do on it, but it is very promising. Wait for the opinion of some other builder that use more massively these software. You can also take a look at the software list in the Section Index. -
LDD won't connect to the internet
Calabar replied to Bedrockbreaker's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I can confirm it is an old version. Nothing strange it can't connect to LEGO servers and works offline. The present version of LDD is 4.3.8 with brickset 1564.2 but it works only on Windows PC and OSX. You have the last version working with PowerPC Macs. -
LDD won't connect to the internet
Calabar replied to Bedrockbreaker's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDD for PowerPC is an old version (I don't think its database is up to date too), and it is possible to connect only the last version of LDD. What are your LDD version and brickset version, exactly? Anyway, as LEGO has closed the "shop at home" program, the fact that LDD is offline is not a huge problem. -
LDD Saving Issue
Calabar replied to GuyDudeMan27's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Problems reported by other users seems to show some problem with the last version(s?) of OSX. At start I thought that the problem was related to some change in the creation of zip files (maybe the new versions of OSX changed something in the libraries related to create archives and LDD uses the integrated functionality), but it seems you have difficulties with lxfml files too, so this hypothesis seems to be not much likely. Did you try, as suggested by NickAb, to open, modify and save an old LDD file? Maybe in the meantime you can work around the issue using an empty lxf file as a base for your creations (you make a copy of the file every time you have to start a new creation). -
LDD 4.3 is not responding
Calabar replied to Ako's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It is not much expensive if you buy the last generation of RAM, but supposedly his/her notebook supports DDR2 ram, that is much more expensive. Anyway he/she should not have this kind of problems with 2 GB of RAM, but it could be better to test it opening LDD when other software (especially the browser) is closed. -
LDD 4.3 is not responding
Calabar replied to Ako's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Maybe the problem is due to the models that LDD loads at startup. Try to open LDD double clicking on a small or an empty lxf file and tell us if this workaround solve the problem. -
Digital tools for tablets
Calabar replied to DrJB's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It is not clear for me if the updates in iOS completely broke the software. Otherwise I think that an incomplete version could be enough for most users, waiting for a fixed version. It is a free application, a disclaimer about the present situation could be enough. Anyway the little success of brickpad could be due to the fact that the software is not known. He could open a topic here in EB to introduce his software and gain some other user. Surely the fact that it is limited to iOS only don't help: I would install it immediately, but I don't have (and I don't want) a iOS device. It is surely possible, but the present remote control software I know are slow and laggy (for example Teamviewer, that I often use). Beside we are speaking about a mobile device and, if used with a mobile connection, this solution could be even more slow and traffic-consuming (in my country the mobile traffic is expensive). This solution could work at home (where you usually can use your PC however), provided you find an adequate software. -

Brickpad seems a very good solution for your needs, it is a pity it is not available anymore. As grum64 suggests, try to contact its developer. It is not an "app" for iPad. Read again my post #2, there you will find a link to brickset: it is one of the most important web resources for LEGO fans, you can't miss to know it! -

In this case I don't think it is a good solution. A 3D viewer requires a good refresh rate and a good responsiveness, and this kind of software are very slow (in order to save bandwidth). Did you try the brickset 3D view with your ipad? -

It is not clear what exactly are you looking for. Do you need a viewer for LDD files or LDRAW ones? Do you need something that works on an iPad, on an Android tablet or on any other kind of tablet device? At the moment the only viewer that works on not-windows device is Mecabricks, that uses its own format. It works through a WEBGL capable browser (I'm not sure, but iPad should support WebGL with iOS8, no problems for Android device). Note: Mecabricks viewer is used from Brickset to show 3D model of official sets, for example this one (click on "3D view" tab). -
Why don't use a "variation" field to identify different molds for a single part? Given that I think the best solution would be to give a different design id for different molds of the same brick, as this has not been made from the start and then it is not easy to apply now, the variation could be a simple and clear solution. For example the part 3957 could be indexed as 3957 type A (the original) and 3957 type B (the new one). This approach is used by Bricklink also (and maybe other catalogues). Use the DesignId for the transparent part seems to me a botch solution: it don't work for all the parts, it is not feasible if variations are more than one, it is substantially wrong, because that DesignID has a specific meaning for real parts but a different meaning in LDD (with all the trouble that this difference can create when you are trying to rebuilt an official set in LDD). The only advantage is that it makes possible to have a variation available.
