Well met! While i thoroughly enjoy the exchange of ideas and (counter)arguments about your creation, it is clear that have put a lot thought into creating a solid background story for this MOC. In a way that makes the model come "alive", and makes me appreciate it all the more for it.

That is looking great, what a marvellous idea! And in your video you make it look so easy to make, i'm almost tempted to try this myself! How did you think of this? Oh, and before i forget: welcome to the Eurobricks community MrHansolo26!

The throne room part of Jabba's Palace sits on top of the pillars of the Rancor Pit. There's nothing to hold up the tower though, so that becomes a rather useless extra when you combine the Palace with the Rancor Pit.
-
I kind of expected the Rancor Pit to be nothing more than four pillars with a gate. Within the given dimensions set by Jabba's throne room, there just isn't that much space to make proper rock walls. And besides i think they left the sides open on purpose for easy playability access. The real attraction of this set has to be the figures, in particular the very first offical LEGO Rancor is just awesome. With such exclusive figures i don't expect this set to come cheap. The retail prices for this years sets seem to have been inflated quite a bit by TLC, and i do not expect them to reverse their pricing policy for next years sets. Someone mentioned 50 dollar/euro, but it wouldn't surprise me the least if it ended up retailing for double that amount.

First of all a warm welcome to Eurobricks! I hope you won't be disappointed to learn you are not the first person to come up with this idea. People have been making lightsaber hilts out of LEGO in all shapes and sizes, and as you can see in this post some of the creations have been presented on Cuusoo. Your design is pretty nice though! I don't think i have seen a hilt before with a transparant piece with the inner workings showing underneath, i particularly like that part of your creation.

While any resemblance to Slave I escapes me, i do really like this little fighter! With its rounded and curvy design it would not look out of place with any of the official Seperatist fighters or starships, so i think you did a superb job at capturing the design aesthetic. I can't think of any real points of critisism, but i do have some observations/ideas for you to think about: The two cockpit parts leave a gap in the middle. You did quite a decent job at covering it up with cheese slopes, but have you considered filling that gap with something else, like an advanced targeting device for instance? That way you can make the gap look like its there for a purpose, instead of something that needs to be covered up. It doesn't appear to be a very big craft. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but i recommend not going overboard with the features. I think even in the fictional universe of Star Wars there are probably limitations of what a power supply in such a small craft can handle in terms of weapon systems and engines. Considering the above, i'd say the ion cannons may be a bit much. But they do look like they could be turned into some nice looking missiles, which would suit a fighter/interceptor craft nearly as well without draining the power supply. Again, great job on this great little fighter! And i hope you find the observations i mentioned useful in some way.

I can understand why the nose of the Star Destroyer is bothering you in this scale, so i've been giving this some thought. Have you tried the SNOT approach? You can probably achieve a much sharper wedge shape with SNOT-ed slopes, but the downside is that you get a much thicker hull in return. It might be worth a try though and see how it turns out, maybe it doesn't look so bad. Update: How about something like this?

Looking good! Did you make that with Ldraw or LDD?

"Lots of clever stuff" indeed! I really admire the endless devotion to accuracy and perfection you have, but aren't you guys overdoing it just a bit? After all, it's still LEGO we're talking about, so naturally you're limited by the dimensions and the angles of the bricks and plates your working with. As far as i could tell the model already looked pretty close to perfect as it was. Personally, i would stick to what looks good, even when it means that that the model is ever so slightly less accurate. When a model looks as great as yours does, not many people would care or even notice that the tail is a few studs too long. But a tail with the correct length that doesn't look right because of an awkward construction, or because the proportion between the angles and the length is a bit off, would get noticed in a less favourable way i think. Anyway, that's just my humble opinion. Please, don't let that get in the way of your creative processes, because i'm very much impressed by what you have achieved!

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
DFOL replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
To my great disappointment, mine came with the grainy silver hilts as well. I believe the chromed hilts went out of production some time ago and they used up the remaining supply as long as they had them, and substituted them for the grainy silver ones once they ran out of the chromed ones. I miss the chrome hilts though, they were very nice and shiney. -
Awesome interview guys, and especially a big thanks to the guest of honor: Brickdoctor! I love reading these interviews, and this one was certainly no exception. I completely agree with the comment made by Mr Man, it clearly implies how much of a positive impact you have made and continue to make on the Star Wars community here on Eurobricks. Also, it has been great seeing your past MOCs again and learning a bit more about the creative processes behind those creations. I really look forward to seeing your future work!

The system scaled fighters may be in a slightly different angle compared to each other on the box art, but in both cases the cockpit seems to be gravitated towards the bottom of the box. Which is exactly the point Clone O'Patra was trying to make in relation to the box art of the UCS B-Wing. And yes, we know there is no up or down in space, so really the whole concept of a rotating cockpit seems a bit silly considering. But since the B-Wing features one (and it does look cool), it might as well be rotating according to the viewpoint of the viewer.

Who can blame him? But i agree, this is a great shot indeed! I think a little more posing of the arms and legs would have made the minifigs look a bit less static, but i can't escape the feeling that the third one is definately looking nervous about something. I really like that bit of suspense in the picture!

I love how you captured the moment where Vader turns on the Emperor to save Luke. Very nicely done!

Congratulations on getting first prize! Your entry is both well made and great fun. I like the piano in particular.

I don't know if using 4x4 round bricks with plates along the sides is a better looking solution though. In my opinion the current construction method works fine. Building the trees out of smaller bricks does allow you to more easily vary the shape and thickness of the tree and also allows for a more random placement of branches and leaves, to create a more natural look. The only improvement i can think of for future projects is to make the trees less square.

Impressive job on this much needed upgrade of the UCS X-Wing! One cannot see this MOC and not appreciate the time and effort that went into creating this! I do agree with some of the comments above that the shaping of the main hull is not yet perfect. Like someone said, it looks a bit "fat", and i really miss the hexagonal shape that is so characteristic of the "real" X-Wing. Still, i think it's leagues ahead of the original UCS model, so thumbs up for a job well done!

Wow! To work this amount of accuracy and detailing into a midi scaled model like this is impressive to say the least. A big thumbs up from me

You're absolutely right that the cockpit should've been rotated a bit to appear correct. But i think the photographer left it at this angle on purpose, because it presents the cockpit in a more favorable way. And a big thanks to GRogall for the box art picture!

I just checked Shop at Home for you and 9525 Pre Vizsla's Mandalorian Fighter is a available here in the Netherlands, so i figure it has to available elsewhere as well. But so far I have seen no reviews of this set yet.

Video How to Build Mini Star Wars Lego Jawa Sandcrawler
DFOL replied to popup's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I was just going to suggest that you post a picture of your creation with a seperate link to your video, without embedding it. But i see that Brickdoctor already beat me to the punch You have some nifty little creations there, they are very nicely done. I do hope you keep posting them here! -
Great work! You're the first i know of to make the UCS astromech in custom colors, so i don't know if anyone else has tried this yet. I'd love to see the R5 units!
-
Indeed! I did not really appreciate how accurate this model really is, until cavegod posted that side by side comparison. Except for the cockpit it seems spot on, and even the cockpit doesn't seem quite that bad when i look at it like this. Actually, in this comparison, i'm not a big fan of the big orange dot, i feel like red would have been a more appropriate color. I must say, the more i see of this set, the more i like it. Though i liked the set right away, i wasn't completely overwhelmed when i first saw the designer video. But with the high res pictures and now this comparison, i'm really starting to appreciate the detailing and accuracy and my enthousiasm for the model is growing a lot.

Are you sure you're not getting a wrong impression here NoteWorthington? I think every member of this forum will tell you that the first and foremost reason to join the Eurobricks community is their great love and passion for LEGO. A good number of us have been collecting and building for many years, which gives us a good deal of experience with both the product and the company that produces it. That does give us a somewhat different perspective compared to the average customer. When new products like the 10227 UCS B-Wing are released or announced, we may look at it with a more critical eye than the average customer because we have a greater understanding of what can or can't be done with bricks. An official model like the 10227 will also undoubtedly be compared to some of the outstanding MOCs of the B-Wing we have seen on this forum, like the ones made by Cavegod and RenegadeClone. People around here do have strong opinions. But where you only see negativity, i find that enthousiasm gets voiced with equal passion. Are you sure you don't want to keep yours cavegod? I really like the 10227 B-Wing (even with the awkward cockpit), but i think your version still holds its own compared to the official model. It looks a bit sleeker somehow.
