  1. Oof... that's one ugly fanon design! It looks like a huge mechanical chicken with an Earth style tank turret stuck on top. But fair is fair, your recreation of the model is spot on. And you managed to match the building style to that of the official releases of the AT-AT and AT-ST, so it fits in with them perfectly. Gotta give you a big compliment for that!
  2. I too had a few unopened sets in storage. I recently opened them just for the joy of building them, but i put the models back in the box afterwards simply because i don't have the space yet to display them all properly.
  3. My first impression was that the speeder looked a little on the thick side. But when i looked closer i noticed a beautiful interior and nice detailing. And who can resist that stunning R2 droid? All in all i'm very impressed!
  4. I wouldn't exactly call those "starfighters", if built to minifig scale all of these ships would be roughly similar in size to the UCS Millennium Falcon. I have to agree there are some awesome models here though, i'd definately save up to buy a UCS release of the XS Freighter.
  5. Are the dimensions really that important? If you go for 100% accuracy, sure. But if the aim is just to build a silly scene to make people smile, then i'd say the above remark about recognisability hits the mark. And in that regard, this MOC succeeds brilliantly.
  6. This certainly put a smile on my face, great crossover!
  7. I hate to spoil the exitement, but it very much looks like all light bley to me, except for the little astromech stud on top. Would've been a nice touch if they used silver parts though. Thanks for the info! Too bad they didn't have anything on the B-Wing yet, i'd love to get some more info on that set (especially pics )
  8. I fully agree with the explanation given by fallenangel309. However, it might be worthy to note that some people also make a distinction between minifigure scale and system scale. Though both scales are built to accommodate minifigures, with minifigure scale the model is built in a size and proportion that is appropriate for the size of a minifigure, whereas system scale tends to be smaller while still trying to portray the essence of the model. To illustrate this point, just compare minifigure scale 10212 Imperial Shuttle with system scale 7166 Imperial Shuttle. Or minifigure scale 10179 Millennium Falcon with system scale 7965 Millennium Falcon. From these examples you can see that official releases in true minifigure scale usually are also part of the UCS range.
  9. There are some nice reviews on youtube which show those features. The review here with still pictures is nice, but seeing all action features and having the model turned in all angles in front of the camera really made me appreciate this set even more. Too bad i don't have the money at this time to buy one for myself.
  10. Well, the cockpit and the gun turrets are kinda round... Kudos on an amazing build! I really like the amount of detailing and I think you got the overall shape down (nearly) perfectly. May I ask what you used as reference for the angles of the engines and wings? Judging from the above picture it looks like the engines and winges should have the same angle when in flight mode.
  11. I bought this set along with the ARC-170 as an extra, but after putting both together I actually ended up liking this one more! Though I might tweak it a little (replacing some of the plates with wedge shaped parts to fill the gaps in the wings), the overall design scores well with me on both accuracy and size. And it IS an unmanned craft with a droid brain, the rocket droids are fun but totally useless extras as far as this set is concerned. A couple of (redesigned) buzz droids would've been nicer in my opinion. Actually, a member of this forum posted a really neat MOC of a buzz droid once, about as close as you can get to the right size and not all that difficult to recreate if you got the right parts.
  12. Superb modeling, you got the overall shape down to perfection! I really like the darker glass, it's a much more logical choice as it protects the pilot from the sun reflecting on the snowy white surface. However, what I do like about the windows of the older version is that they're on the same height. Did you consider rising the rear window one plate on the new version?
  13. First of all my respects for this outstanding review, this has got to be one of the most elaborate and well written reviews I've read so far. I enjoyed it thoroughly and hope to read many more from you! I too own this set, and without a doubt I can say that it is the pride of my collection. After reading your remarks about how the proportions seem off, I compared the model to images of the real Y-Wing model and you were spot on, the engines do seem to be a bit too long and the cockpit too small in comparison. However, I took away the last section of each of the pylons and reattached the rear ends with the wheels with a handful of 2 stud-long technic axles, and... Well, do try it for yourself and tell me what you think of how it influences the overall proportions.
