Thanks for your response, Roland. But please just forget my request. My posting (#248) was kind of nonsense. Sorry. -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
papacharly replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
LDcad offers “possible solutions to closing three segments into a triangle” via “selection info/show triangle angles”. This works fine. If you wish to generate a triangle and there is no exact mathematical solution for this triangle, parts do not snap. An ideal or closed triangle is not possible but a small gap remains. So you have to gradually minimize this gap by yourself and step by step. Is there a better way of generating imperfect triangles? Even better: Is there a possibility in LDcad to automatically minimize this gap to get a best fit? -

10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle [star Wars] Download MPD-File (OMR compliant) Done with LDCad 1.5 Beta 2a Errors: - no stickers - wrong patterned parts (cockpit, minifigs) The mpd-file contains 114 submodels, 5 minifigs and 628 steps. According to the instructions, this model is in a “certain kind of disorder”. Usually the main model grows step by step by adding submodels to the main model. For the 10212 set this is kind of different. The main model switches from time to time: A new submodel is built and then the supposed main model is added to this new submodel. So the submodel gets the new main model. Usually it’s vice versa.

Help For LDD / Ldraw Beginner
papacharly replied to jackallino's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Unfortunately that's right! However, there is a tiny chance: Please have a look to this LDraw forum. I highly appreciate this possibility for requesting a new part in LDraw. And sometimes wishes actually do come true.... -
Help For LDD / Ldraw Beginner
papacharly replied to jackallino's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Welcome to the virtual lego community! I assume we are talking about LDraw? So may you please specify what excatly you have installed? Which editor? Which tool do you use for part search? To see if parts are generally available in LDraw you can use the LDraw parts tracker. Yes. For creating instructions you may use Lpub for example. This tool should be part of the LDraw All-In-One-Installer. There are several tools which can be used for creating a part list. For example LDview (part of A-I-O-I) or MPDcenter. As far as I remember some LDraw tools even support Bricklink export. regards papacharly -
Dear LDD users, although I am not using LDD, I often have a look to this thread. So reading this and this I feel I have to correct some misunderstandings and give you a better insight into “LDraw”. LDraw is not a software tool like LDD. LDraw is a part library containing a huge amount of virtual lego parts. For building a model you can use so called part editors like MLcad, SR3Builder or LDcad. So the LDraw part library in combination with e.g. LDcad (my favourite part editor) may be comparable to LDD. A huge difference between “LDraw” and LDD I highly appreciate is that you can get easily in contact with the makers of LDraw. It’s fully transparent. I think you should give LDraw a try! No need to loathe LDraw. kind regards papacharly

Hello HoMa, please reset LDXQual to the old value! Otherwise the light source may be encapsulated by a non-transparent box. So no light will get out of this box. Yes, the standard way of defining light sources is just using the term “lightsource”. If you use “object” as a container for a light source, you can easily transform the position of the light source by using a matrix. To keep it simple, my idea was to directly use the data given in your pov-file. Most probably this was not one of my best ideas. So please forget this possibility. One more try to get ahead (and to keep it simple too): If you wish to position light sources directly in pov-ray you can use for example light_source { <x,y,z> color rgb <1,1,1> }. Which is a white spotlight at position <x,y,z>. For more information about light sources please have a look to http://www.f-lohmuel...t/camlit_d1.htm I usually delete all these predefined light sources and add my own light sources. To be able to position light sources or any other objects accurately in a povray render I usually add a coordinate system: // x-axis (red) cylinder { <0, 0.0, 0.0>, <1000.0, 0.0, 0.0>, 20 pigment{ color rgb<1,0,0>}} // y-axis (green) NEGATIVE cylinder { <0, 0.0, 0.0>, <0.0, -1000.0, 0.0>, 20 pigment{ color rgb<0,1,0>}} // z-axis (blue) cylinder { <0, 0.0, 0.0>, <0, 0.0, 1000.0>, 20 pigment{ color rgb<0,0,1>}} This way it is easier to understand where objects are, where objects have to be placed or in which direction objects have to be moved. Please note: The y-axis in povray is inverted. So “up” means negative y-values. And glad you like my renders! Thanks. And looking forward to your renders! regards papacharly

Hello HoMa, until now I was not aware at all that it is possible to add povray light sources directly in MLcad. So I made a quick test setup and now I can confirm your problem: There is no additional light in the render which is based on light.dat. However, but there is something. Please have a deeper look to your pov-file! (1) To localise the light.dat source in your render, respectively to make it visible, please try to set ldxqual to 0 => #declare LDXQual = 0; You will find the relevant code most probably right at the beginning of your pov-file. As a result you should see a cube in your render which represents the light source. (2) Most probably your Pov-File contains several expressions like “LDX_light_dot_dat”. This is the converted code based on Light.dat. See for example (or similar): object { LDX_light_dot_dat LDXSeamMatrix(8, 8, 8, 0, 0, 0) matrix <1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-11,-41,0> #if (version >= 3.1) material #else texture #end { LDXColor15 } } Unfortunately I do not understand the intention of all the related code, respectively how the relevant code is able to generate light. In other words: This code does not work the way it should work. If anybody should have a deeper insight in this problem, please let us know! (3) If you wish to have a light source exactly at your light.dat position, you can use the position data from the object definition (see above): The position data of the light.dat light source is represented by the matrix term => matrix <1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-11,-41,0> So please add the following term (with correct position matrix) to your pov-file: object { light_source { <0,0,0> color rgb <1,1,1> } matrix <1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-11,-41,0> } And remove all other preset light sources. I am sure, in the first moment all the above is absolutely confusing. Furthermore I wonder if you wish to invest such an effort just to have “control” over your light sources in povray. Why don’t you just add some self defined light sources in povray? Adding light sources directly in povray gives you full control! Please let me know if you require any further support. kind regards papacharly

Many thanks for disclosing your "secrets". Looking forward to some more Eschers.

Really a great job! And a brilliant idea too. You captured the original setup extremely well. So I like it!! May you please describe your workflow in a few words? I assume that this is a complete and genuine render without any "photoshoping". Right? regards papacharly

10179 UCS Millenium Falcon [star Wars] Download MPD-file Done with LDCad 1.4b (Win XP) and 1.5 Beta 1 (Win 10) Hopefully there are only the following errors: - LEGO Dish Inverted Ø80 (10 x 10) with Decoration #59240 replaced by #50990 - No display - No minfigs - No stickers - A few connections are not tight. They do not snap accurately. Due to the tolerance you can make these connections snap easily in real life. But unfortunately the virtual model is extremely rigid. So I had to optimise these connections as good as possible. According to the instructions there are 96 main steps and around 800 sub steps. The mpd-file contains 191 submodels. Bendend version of 47996 Lattice 3X28M: I modified the official LDraw file 47990 to create the bended version. The mpd-file directly contains all required files.

One year ago I presented a virtual version of submersible JAGO (see here). Now I am able to proudly present a real life brick built version of JAGO. And some new renders (Pov-Ray, based on LDraw) too. For the brick built version I had to manipulate some original parts: Dome 4x4 #86500 and Round Plate 6x6 #11213 are not available in yellow. So I had to re-color these parts by using a color spray can. JAGO is a submersible primarily dedicated to exploration and research in marine sciences. See homepage JAGO. Hope you enjoy it. [Software] LDD2PovRay
papacharly replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Dear Courleciel, you can solve it by using for example a shaft to stamp a hole in n°85861: In LDD you have to add a shaft to the relevant round plate: You have to position this shaft in that way to not influence or touch the brick below or any other bricks. For the example above you get the following povray-code (excerpt): Now you have to modify these lines of code by using the difference command and the object declaration: That means, we remove the shaft from the main ldd_model and use it as a subtrahend with reference to the difference command, while the ldd_model is the minuend. And that’s the result after rendering the modified code: Edit: Just realized that it works in a more simple and direct way too: Regards Papacharly -
That's a wonderful built! It's a serious message as well as kind of funny too. For the first instant it made me laugh. Most striking is that your built uses only a handful of bricks for achieving a great impact. Keep it up please!!
