In the occasion of the new Imperial Shuttle 75094 I virtually rebuilt two movie scenes from Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi - showing the iimperial Shuttle Tydirium approaching Endor. The model was built with LDCad and rendered with Pov-Ray. Imperial Shuttle Tydirium by papacharly24 Imperial Shuttle Tydirium approaches Endor by papacharly24 Hope you enjoy it!

Wow, that's a very detailed and elaborate built. It takes a good while to discover all these great details. I especially like the display window with the swords and the mask. Seems that you invested a lot of work for accurately painting all these nigiri tiles and fish filets. Which technique do you use for this?

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
papacharly replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hello Roland, I finished my first larger Lego set by using LDCad. All in all I can state that I get more and more excited about LDCad the more I use it. And I still haven’t discovered all the possibilities LDCad offers yet. Regarding the rotation mode I personally prefer using TrackBallMode (TBL). For up/down rotation the rotation angle seems to be limited to +- 90°. For me this is a little bit uncomfortable. I would highly appreciate if TBL would also allow a full continuous rotation for all axes like SPN-mode. I very often use of the clone button “INS”. I consider this command a key command. As I use my right hand for operating the mouse, I use my left hand to press “INS”. For me this is a little bit uncomfortable too. It would be much more convenient and faster to have the relevant key on the left side of the keyboard. Furthermore it would be perfect to use the spacebar for this feature. Not 100% sure you consider these ideas as excellent and feasible !? These are just my personal wishes. So there is no need to classify these points “high priority". However, LDCad is not a toy. It’s a tool. In fact it’s an excellent tool. And it’s great fun working with it. Thanks for providing it! regards papacharly -

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
papacharly replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
[Help] filter functionality I 'm kind of struggling while searching fo parts. For me it seems that the filter functionality is only working for groups containing actual parts. Searching for a part on a higher level, e.g. searching for "clip" on the main group or the bricks group, gives no result. Is this the way the filter function should work? Or is anything wrong with my way of searching? I use 1.5 Alpha 3 win32 Thanks for helping! papacharly -

Welcome to EB, Mark! I just wish to put your attention to the forum "LEGO Digital Designer and other digital tools" . This forum should be most relevant for Blender related topics. So I would highly appreciate if you could poste your Blender threads there. Thanks!

This is a very funny picture story. Brilliant idea. It made me laugh too. Never before I have seen an hippo's alimentary canal. Thanks!

[LDRAW] 3947a wrong logo-on-stud rotation
papacharly replied to ___'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You're welcome! BTW: And welcome to the LDraw community too! Wise decision. I was aware of that. But let me please add on more hint regarding this topic, especially for users which are no experts in Povray. If you add #declare lg_knob = object {lg_knob rotate <0,0,90>} to the pov-file all subsequent knobs which are listed in the pov-file will be rotated. To switch of this rotation you have to add #declare lg_knob = object {lg_knob rotate <0,0,-90>} after the last knob which has to be rotated. For example: #declare lg_knob = object {lg_knob rotate <0,0,90>} // So rotation is enabled #if (LDXStuds) object { lg_knob // first knob to be rotated matrix <0,0,-25,-25,0,0,0,-25,0,0,0,0> matrix <1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,310,0,310> } ..... ..... ..... object { lg_knob // last knob to be rotated matrix <0,0,-25,-25,0,0,0,-25,0,0,0,0> matrix <1,0,0,0,1,0,0,0,1,-310,0,-310> } #end // LDXStuds #declare lg_knob = object {lg_knob rotate <0,0,-90>} // Rotation is disabled and all following knobs are not affected any more Sorry, I forgot to add this to my first post. -
[LDRAW] 3947a wrong logo-on-stud rotation
papacharly replied to ___'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yes, one possibilty is to rotate the knobs by 90°: Try to identify the following codelines and insert either option 1 or option 2. Option 1 may lead to a global rotation of all knobs in the povfile. For option 2 you have to include the rotate transformation for each knob! I recommend option 2 !!!! Have fun! That's the result after rendering the above code: -
I love Calvin & Hobbes comic strips. From time to time I still have lots of fun reading this great literature. One of Calvin’s alter egos is Spaceman Spiff: Spiff is an "interplanetary explorer extraordinaire" who explores the outermost reaches of the universe "by popular request" in a red flying saucer with a bubble canopy. So here comes my digital artwork “Spiff shot first”. Built with SR3D Builder (LDraw), rendered by Pov-Ray. Spiff_shot_first by Papacharly, on Flickr And this is the original Spiff, stranded on an unexplored planet, uses the Death Ray Blaster to defend himself from aliens: Spiff pulls his Death Ray Blaster: Spiff_Blaster by Papacharly, on Flickr Hope you will enjoy it. regards papacharly

Maybe a bit off topic, but it's an amazing render! Your awesome lighting effects are highly inspiring. Have to figure out how these caustics can be realised in povray.

New Parts for LGEO Library
papacharly replied to Darats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yeah, it works fine now!! Using the right LGEO.xml file resolved the problem. I repeat: Regarding the xml-file do not "right click" and do not "save (target) as..." ! This creates a lot of trouble ... -
Thanks! Actually I have no render plans for further dogfights. But I am always open for new ideas.… WHAT? IT’S NOT MUCH REALISTIC? I used to use focal blur a couple of times. E.g. see here or here. But as rendering speed drops more than dramatically I usually do not take focal blur into account. Maybe I will give it a further try for the next rendering …. To be more specific: Do you suggest using focal blur for the background (landscape) only or also for some aircraft too? In other words: Which part of the image should be blured?

New Parts for LGEO Library
papacharly replied to Darats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for your fast response! Unfortuntely neither "POV code from LDraw file = No" nor switching back to the old xml-file resulted in some improvement. Using the old xml-file in combination with the new lg_2340.inc render failed due to an undeclared identifier in lg_2340.inc:: "C:\Program Files\LDraw\LGEO\lg\lg_2340.inc" line 21: Parse Error: No matching } in '{', undeclared identifier 'L3LgeoToLDraw' found instead. => ???????? -
Hahaha , that's definitely one of the most abnormal as well as funniest business ideas ever created by mankind! To re-establish the honor of Germany I have to note that even though the language is german this is an Austrian website. regards papacharly P.S.: As I have lots of LDraw-files in stock, I think I will start a business for renting lego cad files a.s.a.p......

I love the aircraft builds of Jon Hall, as well as I highly appreciate that he shares instructions. So I am able to virtually rebuild his aircraft and use it for rendering. Many thanks to Jon! Here please find some LDraw files of his aircraft models: E-11 Liberator Crimson Storm Skyhammer Patriot Scarlet Fury E-73 Wyvern In this context I proudly present my latest render: A group of E-11 Liberator getting attacked by some Crimson Storm. Please note: This is not a real air fight. It’s an airshow! So definitely no Lego Minifig was harmed or even killed while being engaged in this “air combat”. Pov-Ray render. Props, muzzle flash and smoke, as well as sky and fog also generated with Pov-Ray (no “photoshoping”). Aircraft built with SR3D Builder. High Resolution Image of "Great shot, Blondie!" Have fun! New Parts for LGEO Library
papacharly replied to Darats's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Your LGEO parts are highly appreciated! Thats great. Thank you so much. I followed your instructions but I have still some problems to get it run properly: - I started by just adding 5 parts from your lg_xxxx.inc-library to the LGEO\lg folder (e.g. lg_0112 and lg_2340, whereas lg_2340 was already available, but I changed to your file) - I added the complete STL-file to the povray folder => POV-Ray\v3.7\include\STL Parts and changed the libraray path respectively - Additionally I exchanged the LGEO.xml file And this is result: left side: "old" version right side: "new" version, after applying your changes It seems that there is no LGEO effect anymore! So far I have no idea what I made wrong. I just made the following observation: If LGEO/LDview works properly you usually find something like "#include "lg_2340.inc" // Tail 4 x 1 x 3" in the pov file. After applying your xml file there is no similar code in the pov file. This may explain why there is no LGEO effect at all? Any idea what might went wrong and how I can resolve it? It would be a mess not to be able to use your part definitions! kind regards papacharly -

[POVRAY] Continue aborted rendering?
papacharly replied to ___'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You just need to open the aborted povray-file, add +c to the command line and restart rendering (run): You can also use this feature to stop a render pocess manually and continue later on. Please note: When the render is finished, do not forget to remove +c regards papacharly
