[Software] LDD2PovRay
papacharly replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I need some help please. I installed LDD and additionally LDD2Povray. It works: I can generate a model, I can transfer it to povray and I can render it. So far so good. But rendering a friend's pov-file povray reports an error. For which reason ever, I am not able to render this file. Povray stops where the parts-definition begins. see here So are the files which were generated by LDD2povray specific? Can these files only be rendered on the computer they were generated? Has anything else to be fixed? Thanks for advice! regards papacharly Edit: I just found, that this problem is due to the fact that my inc-folder is more or less empty. So I think, I just have to "fill it up" with parts .... -
Thanks! Yup, its close to Technic Action Figure scale => see here No, actually I do not intend to build it in real lego, as I’m absolutely sure that my Minister of Finance would immediately reject my purchasing request. regards papacharly

I think your point is that regarding the rendering above it is not obvious that there are headlights? Right? So please have a very close look to the high resolution renderings here. You will see the headlights there. But I agree to you: Due to my settings the transparent parts are very, very transparent.

Creator 10220 Volkswagen T1 Campingbus Errors: Regarding the motor I have not inserted a technic bush (4265) due to the fact that 4185 (Technic Wedge Belt Wheel) and 42610 (Wheel 11 x 8 mm) would not have been coplanar. Wheels have to be coplanar for generating a rubber belt. Main model built with SR 3D. Tubings generated by MLCad/LSynth. Rubber band (V-belt) generated with Philo’s Rubber Belt Generator. L3B-File download here. Regarding the rendering: Model transferred to Povray by LDView. Stickers (VW sign, number plates,..) and curtains generated directly by Pov-Ray. Please find some more renders here.

The walls were mainly built with Brick 2x4x3 (#30144). The floor is built with flat tiles. regards papacharly

For attending my duty („ ... you must (if you win) share how you did the render…”) I prepared some comments on my entry for the rendering contest. Hope these comments will inspire you to create and poste some more nice renderings or even will encourage you to engage with rendering. Superkalle proposed to open a new topic fort his. So please feel free to poste further questions/comments/remarks here. I would highly appreciate if other participants in the rendering contest would poste some tips regarding their entries here too. Your setup seems to be o.k. as I can copy the same errors on my system. So far I dont understand what is going on. But I have "plan B solution":see here and here. I just disabled the codelines which are generating an error report (5 times) by adding "//". So at least you can see a first result of your project this way. By examining this render most probably you will never realize that there are some missing codelines. Maybe Philo or Max Martin Richter may know a better advice as this certain code was generated by them.

BTW: This is not an error. This should be part of the codeline where the error occurs. So could you please let me know what is written in the error report? However, try the following: Add #include "shapes.inc" at the very beginning of your povray file. Add Library_Path="C:\Program Files\LDraw\LGEO" (or similar path) to the povray.ini file. Any progress?

Not sure if I can help. However, lets make a shot… Some questions: - Have you transferred the LDraw-file to povray code by using LDview? - Was this the very first time for you? If yes, so have you set the library path correctly? => Library_Path="C:\Program Files\LDraw\LGEO\lg" and Library_Path="C:\Program Files\LDraw\LGEO\ar" (or similar). Povray needs to know where to find the lg-files. - Maybe just generate a very simple povray file containing one single brick and publish it here or send it to me. So I can better try to fix the problem. Regards papacharly

Photoreal LEGO Rendering
papacharly replied to Renderbricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I agree: This is just WOW! Furthermore I have to admit, that I’m quite a bit envious… Has anybody here tried to generate similar effects (like the imperfections on the windshield or the random speckles on the “cannon” (#30359) ) by using Pov-Ray and is willing to share this knowledge? Regarding LDraw/LGEO I would expect that you have to manipulate the texture respectively the normal definition in lg_color.inc or do any similar measures for getting close to this impressive MODO rendering of virtualrepublic. regards papacharly -
Legolijntje, could you please reconsider your answer to Juraj? As I have understood the rules say: A little Photoshop is allowed for the picture, but only white balance, background editing etc. The model itself should remain unchanged. I already did a "little Photoshop" on my entry. So please don't argue too strict. Otherwise I have to withdraw my entry. regards papacharly

Here is my entry for the Digital Rendering Contest: This is the dream home I would like to live in. Its an “open space” concept providing everything you really need for feeling comfortable: Bedroom, dining room, open chimney and, last but not least, a bar. It’s made from black, white, chrome silver, trans clear and some trans neon orange bricks. And a lot of light sources. And some ”water”. The scenery consists of around 3000 parts and around 70 light sources. The model was built by SR 3D, strings were generated by MLCad/LSynth. The model was transferred to Povray by LDview. Please find some more renders here. 15.04.2014: What you see now is "as rendered". If you have a close look, you can see "falling lines" here. That means, that most vertical lines are not parallel to each other. For my first entry I corrected these "falling lines" by use of an image editor (free transform/distort). But as I have learned now, this is not allowed. Sorry! My new entry now is absolutely legit. I did only some cropping.

Dear Sir, SR3D Builder is a 3D CAD for Lego based on the LDraw system. See http://sr3dbuilder.altervista.org/ and http://www.ldraw.org/. I you win the rendering contest you get this great software tool for free. OK? Yours respectfully Papacharly

This contest is an excellent idea! I have already started with a project for the rendering contest although I am not very interested in the prize. As I love LDraw and my SR3D-Builder! May I ask for adding a similar prize for LDraw enthusiasts? So far as this is somehow possible. It’s just to ensure that all LDraw enthusiasts are motivated at most to give their best for the rendering competition. So let the games begin … Papacharly

illusion make by LDD2Povray
papacharly replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Very well done, Nachapon, great work! I have a problem: I don’t get behind your trick. How did you realize the penrose triangle? It is still a miracle to me. I would highly appreciate if you could let us know and share your technique. I do not assume that you created some special parts. Regards Papacharly -
Thanks, C3POwen, for updating the LGEO-parts! Rendering a model I realised a strange phenomenom. Two edges of 30407 were colored green. See 30407 . Any idea what the reason is? Might this just be a tiny LGEO bug? thanks and regards papacharly

Setting fade power = 0 is not the best choice. You have to understand fade power as a "damping factor". So the higher fade power is, the less bright the light gets. So go for fade power = 5 or 10 and see what is happening. Fade distance = distance of full light intensity: So only light which is travelling further than "fade distance" is getting damped. As the length of a brick 1x1 is 20 (for Ldraw parts), so fade distance should be > 10. Otherwise it might happen that the light wont emerge out of the brick at all. If you cant resolve the problem so feel free to send me your complete pov-file and I will try to fix the problem.
-
You have to use "fade power" and "fade distance". Here is an example pov-file (http://bricksafe.com...harly/light.pov) showing how to use these functions. I added some comments to the light description at the end of this file. Any more questions?
