Winter Village: Ferris Wheel (Competition Entry)

Such a simple, yet effective way to make a Ferris wheel, Paperballpark. Very inspirational. I like how you made the SNOT gondolas. Good luck in the competition. /Laka

Expand the Winter Village Contest IV

It's always nice to follow the competitions here on Eurobricks. And I think it's a nice twist compared to other years that there is a size limit to the entry this year. To build bigger, wider, taller is not the hard part. The hard part is to limit yourself - and your work. Thumbs up for the 16x16 limit this year If I come up with an idea, I might take part for the first time. Even though I prefer the WV buildings compared to the market, I think it might be good to see the entries of this year's competition. There might be ways to improve the market.

    MOC-Tiger's Nest Monastery, Paro Taktsang

This is truely amazing. It's really a beautiful MOC. And so true to the real building.

    MOC: Department Store

Thanks, kevin8, for your comments. I have no immediate plans to convert it into a modular building, as my preferences are for classic, open-back buildings. But I do get your point, and I am now considering if I should make the building a little deeper. It is 8 studs now, maybe 10? The interior, I want to change. Hopefully I can soon spend some more time on figuring out how it should be. - For the ground floor, I want a floor in a pattern of different colours.

My first MOD: 10232 Palace Cinema (non-corner building)

I must say, I am also impressed by this job. I tend to agree that this non-corner version of the cinema looks even better than the original corner building. I think the only comment I have got is that you should switch the back entrance and the bathroom. I think a bathroom will fit better next to the ticket counter, instead of next to the kiosk...

    (MOC)-Modular Bookshop

+1 I didn't even notice, you built the house without tiles, kevin8. I've read the comment about it earlier. But just now I have seen it - and noticed it. I think it looks nice with tiles. But that being said, the heart of LEGO is the stud. My department store (not modular) is also built without tiles, and none of my plans include tiles for the flooring. - So you are not alone.

    (MOC)-Modular Bookshop

And that's the beauty of it. Such a simple idea, yet so brilliant a result. One vase to rule them all...

    Bakery under construction

Nice building, TwoKnightsBicycle. I agree about the roof, though. A darker colour would be better. I also think the big window on the first floor should be made in the same style as the other windows upstairs. Unless you want to use it as window of a shop, of course. Then it might be better the way it is now. I also took a look at your other works on Flickr. Quite nice, I must say. Especially the art deco building. And I like how you use the the two knights and the bicycle as a trademark on the pictures

    (MOC)-Modular Bookshop

Well, Kevin8... What to say? Do I have to mention the facade? I really like a small detail in the flat: The transparent brown vase on the blue cupboard. Brilliant! Things to make you grow as a builder? Hard to find any... But as a photographer? Just that I miss a picture of the skylight taken from downstairs (it might be a hard one to get).

    MOC - Farmer's Warehouse

As usual a nice design by LT. And a bit bigger than the shops you normally build. I really like the brickbuilt logo But I must say, I look forward to see all the MOCs in a streetscape or town

    MOCs: 100% Lego Lighting

I think it looks really nice. And very interesting it's made of 100% LEGO. My only comment would be, I think the arms are too long for the height of the street light. But I guess it has something to do with the cables and how they are arranged? How tall is it? 15 bricks?

Lego 10224 MOD-ular Town Hall XL

It looks rather impressive with the enlarged Town Hall next to the other modulars. I like the different sizes of buildings, it makes the town look more real. Just a shame, you don't have space for town hall to be a stand-alone. I would make it look even greater.

    MOCs made by my wife

There are some really great ideas amongst these MOCs, Monsinjor. I think your wife should be MOC'ing some more I really like the use of the life vests as chairs in the café. I also like how she arranges plants and flowers in the parks/gardens. And finally the helmet as a toilet. Poor that fireman who will have that helmet back later

Lego 10224 MOD-ular Town Hall XL

Well, LegoSjaak... I think, you should build the town hall lower. It's way too tall for my screen I think it fits the building very well to make it bigger. With this size and shape, your town hall really deserves to be stand-alone building. If you can, you should consider windows on the sides of building, not just in the front and back.

    First MOC: Bicycle Store

Really a nice, first MOC, StevOOO. I like how you managed to put a lot of details into small spaces, and it doesn't look cramped. Only one suggestion: the tables at the café should be a little higher. They seem rather low next to the chairs.

    Brinklinking a 7725 MOD

This is brilliant, Heppeng. And it is good to see a project like that made in bricks. I like the idea to build the train in new colours. It really gives the impression that the train has been modernized. I think you are right about the red pinstripe between the headlights. It will look more clean without it. Also given that the bricks holding the lights (don't know what they are called in English) don't have the stripes. Thumbs up for new train. Citizens in your Lego City are lucky to have an extra suburban train to ride

MOD: Victorian Railways AEC Rail Motor Car

It's really a nice and interesting rail-bus, you have built there, scruffulous. I like the choice of colour, it really resembles what was used back then. Which element did you use for the windshield - including the side/corner? I wonder, if it would be possible to use small units like that on tracks nowadays. /Laka

Ice Cream Cart & Other Town Accessories

A good way to solve the problem with the height on SalvoBricks ice cream cart, LT. The other town accessories are quite good, too. Always nice to see your work. I look forward to see that in a streetscape.

    Old and new ice-cream cart

I also like the first one better. Probably because it reminds me of the good old 6601 Ice Cream Cart But the new one has a more slim look, and fits better in size, I think. Though I agree it's a bit high. Lightningtiger's suggestion solves that problem. But you can always keep both of the them. A bit of competition is good. And you never can have too many places selling ice cream

    Barrie's Department Store

Then you are not the only one. I've tried LDD a bit, but couldn't really make it work. And I think it is more interesting to build the model brick by brick. And regarding this masterpiece it is really hard to add any new words to the long row of superlatives. But it is really grandiose! A truely Grand Emp... Department Store in a class of it's own On the exterior, I really like the contrast between the white and black with a few splashes of colours. Keeping all the details on the upper floors in white makes it look delicate. Too often, I think, details on modulars become too intrusive. But not here. On the inside, as stated by others, I like the double-brick walls, making it possible to have different colours on the walls. Then of course all the details in furniture, displays... I particularly like the counter with glass display on the second floor where clothing is. It's very elegant. How did you make it? The front is a windowframe, I guess the next is the same, and then normal bricks behind? Is it attached to the floor? If yes, how? /Laka

    Village Beginnings

Hi Spud and welcome to Eurobricks! Depending on the amount of space and funds (the latter seems to be sparse at the time being), you should also consider if you want to build in a modular style or maybe the classic open-back style. With the modular style, you get bigger buildings, maybe also more detailed. It might also take some more space, and under all circumstances it will take more bricks. Of course it does not have to be in the size of the official modulars. Take a look at SalvoBrick's Brickville. He found his own style of smaller modulars. With a classic open-back style, you typically get smaller buildings, probably with less details. It will save your bricks, and you might be able to have more buildings in a smaller space. Greg3's Ballabreek is a good example of a developing village built in classic style. Of course you can get inspired from both styles and find your own way. Have fun, I look forward to see your village

    Mystery Monorail

Is "The Mystery on the Monorail" written by Agatha Brickstie? As a child, I also wanted the airport shuttle, but it was way out of reach back in the beginning of the 90s. I also didn't know anybody who had it. But I think consumption patterns have changed a lot since then. Families are having more money, children get more and bigger presents. At least here in Denmark. I guess therefore, it would not be of economic reasons an eventual relaunced monorail would not sell. It would probably be because in the last 30 years, children are "growing older faster".

    [MOC] Small Town Houses

Really a nice town, you have got there, antp. I like how you have put the houses with the back yards/garden next to each other. I also like how you have used the classic houses for the new buildings. It's quite easy to recognize the good, old classics - even in new shapes I didn't notice the red bicycle paths, before I read about it on your mocpages. Really a nice touch I guess the citizens appreciate the safe bike riding it provides.

    Ballabreek 2013

HA! I've got that idea book. Guess I haven't taken a look at the stickers for quite a while yeah, got it. Just found it. EDIT: Btw, do you have some updated pictures of the entire of Ballabreek?
