    10264 Corner Garage

I understand the reasoning behind not having tiles inside the garage, but I understand why it irks some people. If the first floor couldn't be tiled, for the price you're paying, could the vet's office have been tiled up instead (although I understand that the angled nature of the building could make that challenging)? Or even a few tiles in the apartment, to represent a little rug or something? I suppose details like that can be added with bricks of your own --- part of the fun of the older Modulars was customising the interiors --- but the price is pretty high already to justify that for a lot of people. The thing with Modulars is that if they lack interior detail, the exterior has to be widely appealing enough to justify that. The possible problem with the Corner Garage is that the exterior and general look of the building has proven to be pretty divisive in its own right; which doesn't help with the lack of interior and the rise in price. Some people will love the look of the exterior and therefore be fine with the sparse interior; but those who aren't really impressed with the facade won't find much else in the set. Personally I think it's a decent set, but it's not for me. I understand why some people love it, and that's fine! And I also understand why some people really don't like it. I'm probably not going to buy it, but I'm going to just enjoy the Modulars I have and let other people enjoy this one.

I've never ordered anything on Bricklink before --- does anyone think that the reuse of Dark Orange might bring down the cost of Bricklinking the Town Hall? I'm still not enamored with the Corner Garage, but I've always desperately wanted that Town Hall! Missed it because of my dark ages. That's what I love about them too, the gender ambiguity was really freeing. But at least Benny's Space Squad will have some classic smileys for us.

The more I look at it, the more my largest issue becomes the colour. In some pictures it looks more brown than orange, and I think that makes it look so much better than the very bright orange that comes across in other pictures. Maybe if the top two floors were done in reddish brown the building would look more appealing.

    10264 Corner Garage

My overwhelming first impression is that it's... fine. I like it a lot more than the Downtown Diner (which is the only Modular I honestly completely disliked personally), but I still don't really feel much toward it. It's really weird to have a vet situated above a car garage, the poor sick pets will be inhaling a lot of fumes. I like the look of the building generally, but I think I'm put off a little by how asymmetrical and haphazard it is --- even on the box image, you can't see the printed vet window properly because the garage bit is blocking it --- and the facade just isn't on the level of detail we've had in the past. I agree with the assessment that it looks like a jumbo-sized Creator 3-In-1; it has that simpler feel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just not jumping out at me personally. I do really like the dark orange (although it looks brighter in Brickset's review and that looks a bit garish in my opinion) and there are a lot of good parts in this. But it's honestly bizarre that the building itself takes up so little of the space available, which at that price point honestly isn't acceptable to me. Another mixed bag unfortunately.

    What did you buy today?

Finally picked up the Parisian Restaurant because of the 10 euro off of every 50 deal at Smyths. So excited to build another Modular!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I don't think it will be a garage either, but I do think that vehicles are going to be a mainstay in the modular line now. It was mentioned that in testing, kids loved when vehicles were included with the buildings (I think that was in the DD designer video). So I think, no matter what building we get, it will come with a vehicle of some kind for the sake of play. That doesn't necessarily take previous guesses off the cards --- A hotel could come with a taxi; a school could come with a small school bus; a museum could come with some kind of van delivering a priceless artifact, and some bandits trying to steal it.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I'm holding out hope for a proper hotel, even though hotels were technically covered in Cafe Corner. You could have a reception area with a bit of space for eating (because we do know LEGO loves their food establishments!) and lounging about. Then the next floor could have hotel rooms for some interesting and mysterious characters to add a bit of story; and you could also have some space for the hotel workers, and a swimming pool/gym. I know that Friends has covered a lot of this in their hotel, but I think the Modular style would still be incredibly welcome. Similarly to the Detective's Office, I think the Hotel would allow for a kid-friendly version of a mystery narrative. Where DO had a prohibition-style story using cookies, you could convert a spy/mystery style narrative into a more kid friendly story for a hotel modular. Why are these weird colourful characters all staying at the hotel? It'd be fun, I think. Other possible modulars I'd really love: a proper museum would be fantastic, especially to mark 60 years of the brick. You could have some of the exhibitions be nods to old LEGO sets. I'd also love a school or college, as I feel one has been pretty sorely missing; that could be mashed up with a library.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

That's a bit disappointing if this is microscale, I really wanted it to be minifig-scale. It looks really, really large for a promo set though. I'm hoping that the minifigure pack is also available via Shop @ Home.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

It'd be pretty cool if there were rollercoaster pieces inside Gringotts for the carts, but that seems more like a MOC idea. I'm completely fine with a set being only the facades of buildings, because these still have such a modular building look. I think they'd include it just to inject some more colour and fun into the scene. All of the other buildings would likely be duller colours, so I could see a designer putting Weasley's Wizard Wheezes in just to add a bit more life to the scene. Plus Fred and George are popular characters who would add draw to the set. The build you can see in the video might not be the finished product completely (like the prototype Great Hall that was debuted originally) but I'd say this is practically confirmation that Diagon Alley will be a set.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

On Credence's alternate face, is there supposed to be white in the middle of the silver circles? I've been looking at my figure, and it kind of looks like the flesh tone continues beneath the silver circles. Is there meant to be a brighter white, or is it just hard to distinguish the white from flesh tone?

Sold out in Ireland as well, wow that was fast! I think that's the fastest I've ever seen sets from a regular wave sell out (not D2Cs). Looks like this is going to be incredibly popular.

Managed to get 9 CMFs so far, no duplicates, including Graves/Grindelwald so I'm incredibly happy. Oh cool, thanks for the head's up! I'm considering getting the Parisian Restaurant soon, but now I'm conflicted haha.

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

I don't think that either the M&M's machine or the Engine will go far. The Engine would have to be downscaled significantly and I don't think children would be particularly interested in just an engine on its own --- if it was a full vehicle, it would be a lot more likely. The M&M's machine won't get passed because of safety concerns. Even if most kids would understand the difference between an M&M and a Lego brick, it only takes one instance of a child accidentally swallowing a piece for Lego to be hit with issues. They're not going to want to take that chance.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

Apologies if this sort of thing isn't allowed, but does anyone know a reputable place where I could buy the whole series all at once, rather than having to buy the blind bags? I know there are places where you can buy a whole box but that would be pretty expensive - just wondering if there is any place where you can just buy one of each figure?

Wow! Really impressed with the suitcase set! I wasn't expecting to like it so much, but it looks absolutely fantastic. The designers on this HP/Fantastic Beasts wave have done a killer job across the board.

    What did you buy today?

Managed to find Speed Force Freeze Pursuit for 20 euro on clearance at Tesco. There was no way I was going to buy that set at full price just for Reverse Flash, so this was a really welcome surprise.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

The FB minifigs look fantastic! Very pleased to see them, it's making me way more curious about the Suitcase set. I'm not a fan of the brick-built Fawkes and Basilisk in the Great Hall set (although they don't bother me much because they're only side builds) but it'll be interesting to see what the brick-built creatures in the Suitcase look like. I think that the Erumpent will likely be built similarly to the rhino in the Black Panther set Rhino Face Off at the Mine (76099).

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

It looks real to me, and looks really good too. But yeah, would not be surprised to find that this is an unfinished prototype given Nagini's colour and the lack of a printed base. Unique bases seem to be a thing for CMF now so I expect that this series will have it's own special bases, possibly with the Wizarding World symbol or the glasses and scar symbol.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

If there were a HP Advent Calendar we'd probably have heard about it, and it would most likely have been revealed with the other Advent Calendars. They've shown us the Star Wars, Friends and City ones. So there almost certainly is no HP one.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

Apologies if this has been covered before - but is it possible that Ollivander could be a promotional figure when the wave launches? I know that people were suggesting that his minifigure could be included with an upcoming book (which I do think is pretty likely), but I'm just putting the possibility out there given that we were talking about promos?

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

More likely IMO is that they don't want to show the next CMF series while the current series is still being promoted. They don't want to steal the spotlight from Series 18.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

I agree. I'm sure it's fairly easy to modify to make it taller, too. I think many people's disappointment comes from what we had expected this set to be. We thought that the set would be mainly the tree with a little side build of Castle - however, it was the other way around. I'm perfectly fine with the portion of the castle being larger, but it's understandable that people would be a bit miffed if they were expecting the main build to be the Willow. There's not much really wrong with the Willow itself in my opinion though; at least, not much that can't be tinkered around with. I think the Willow overall looks vastly improved when the Ford Anglia is placed in the branches - it just makes it look more substantial to me. I'm glad as well that it has the swinging branches feature, I'll be interested to see how that works. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Shop at Home promotions are for August. Hopefully that LEGO Store set.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

I'm considering picking up the new Hogwarts Express even though I have the old 2001 train; do you guys think that I could mesh the two together, or would it look garish? I'm generally not much good at MOCing or customising, but it'd be nice if I could add an additional carriage onto the train. August 1st, I believe. I'm looking forward to finding out what Gift With Purchase will be offered in August so I can justify this all somehow.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

I remember one of the designers saying on this thread that they exceeded their budget for these sets and had to take some of the budget from Jurassic World. If that's the case - and I don't doubt it at all, considering the amount of builds, prints and new pieces here - I think a few stickers are completely excusable. I'm just glad that everything looks so good. Man, I hope so! I'm worried that these won't be available in Ireland at all. We don't have any official LEGO stores or Toys R' Us. Here's hoping Smyths, Tesco or Argos get these, but I don't think any Bricktober packs or figure packs have surfaced anywhere here before.

    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

HOT DAMN. These sets are beautiful! I wish the Whomping Willow itself was a bit larger, and that the back of the castle was covered more, but overall there isn't much to complain about. Fantastic stuff. LEGO is out to bankrupt us all.
